I think it's the jealous, fake rumor mill starting this stories about Crabs. There are media outlets and other teams that are pissed that they didn't get him, so they're helping to create controversy.

There was a lot of stuff (more deserving at the time IMO) about VD when he was an unsigned rookie. He, like Crabs, had a lot of hype around him as well as rumors circulating about his attitude, "diva-ness", signability, etc.

People are just haters, and that's part of the reason he fell in the Draft. A lot of speculation and rumors going around, mixed with jealousy. The Niners do have the leverage, however, and Crabs needs to understand that if he does plan any kind of stalemate.

I'm calling it right here that the Coffee signing in announced today.

First, C'mon are you serious? With the year he had he was destined to be the man at least ONE MORE SEASON. Saying there's no guarantees in life proves nothing because this is football. He was their first round pick not too long ago and had a nice year.. He was gonna be the man this season.

Second, Cutler didn't want to trade out of Denver. He wanted to stay in Denver. He was upset that the Broncos would even consider trading him after he reportedly said around the league that he would stay.

Third, Rivers is a dick. There's no denying that. Everyone knows it. He's just a classless individual.

1) He wasnt Daniels first round draft pick. He was Shanahan's. I shouldnt have to tell you what happens when a new HC comes in and takes over. And he had a good season, not a great one. 25 TD's/18 INT's is good at best but 34 TD's/11 INT's is great. Plus, with a three game lead, Cutler played like crap in the last three games throwing 4 INT's and 2 TD's. I dont want to hear about their defense is crap, no running game, injuries or whatever because thats nothing but an execuse. Just like the same crap thats said here about Alex Smith but yet no one seems to realize that Shaun Hill has had the exact same changes but the opposite outcome. Also, Rivers has led his team to the playoffs all three seasons in which he's been the starter where as Cutler failed including this past season where all he had to do was lead his team to victory just once in three games but couldnt do it. Cutler is a good QB but Rivers is easily better. And yeah, I didnt want Cutler but I wouldnt complain at all if that trade scenario actually happens in regards to Rivers.

2) Yeah, except for the FACT that he asked to be traded but denied that he ever said it even though he did. Rivers is an asshole for TAUNTING but Cutler isnt for being two-faced?? You've got to be kidding me. And of course, he said that he wanted to stay. What else is he going to say when he's trying to cover up the FACT that he asked to be traded???

3) I'm still trying to figure out why exactly Rivers is a dick? For taunting Cutler? Havent they taunted and trash talked each other for three years??? None of that matters anyway as its just mind games and bullcrap. And after watching that YouTube video you posted, there's just one thing missing - the camera showing Cutler screaming back which im pretty sure he did. The difference between Cutler and Rivers is that Rivers backs up his trash talking where as Cutler cant and didnt. Hell, I just looked at the last four DEN/SD games and ouch, SD won three of the four with the only win for DEN coming early last season by a point and of course, that was the screwjob anyway and was proven when Rivers and SD crushed DEN to end the season and get in the playoffs. SD outscored DEN 154 to 66. OUCH!!! Thats a thrashing. Actually, three thrashings and one screwjob. Cutler had 5 TD's/6 INT's in those four games. Take away the 4 TD performance in the screwjob game and he's horrible against Rivers and SD. Rivers on the other hand had 8 TD's and only 1 INT in those four games.

Looking everything over, forget Cutler wanting out of DEN. He wanted out of the AFC West so he didnt have to try to match Rivers twice a year because he knows he cant. Hell, he's only capable of doing it 25% of the time and even then, he needs the officials to help his ass out.

Enough of my little rant. You prefer Cutler, good for you. I prefer Rivers, good for me. I'll just leave it at that.

Exactly. The draftee or his agent has to throw out the 1st number for the negotiations to begin. Both sides know there's a lot of wiggle room in there.

Both Crabtree & Coffee will be signed before the 1st preseason game, maybe not the HoF game, but the 1st 9ers preseason game.

It is TRUE that Eugene Parker is trying to negotiate a deal that will pay #3 money... what stupid media outlets don't descramble in their tiny little minds is that Eugene Parker is also the agent for #3 overall pick Tyson Jackson.

Media really pisses me off anymore.

Yeah, Parker is a silly man, Crabtree was picked 10th, Parker is still going to get a load of money, and needs to realize "If I don't get Crabtree in to camp on time, he'll be held back in the knowledge of the plays, and if he can't make the plays without knowing the plays, how will I get him a billion dollar extention?"

On whether the defense seemed ahead of the offense:

The defense was okay. And yes, you’re exactly right – our offense is always a step behind, but I don’t really buy into that. That is kind of the way it has been all my life. It’s just about coming out here every day with the mindset that we are going to get better every day.

On the "Nutcracker" drill:

Initially, what we had in the "Nutcracker", I think we got some good work out of that. The fundamental part of what we’re trying to achieve, I think we took a step today in that area. And we’re going to do that a few times. I just think it’s important we understand contact, but even more importantly, it’s not just coming out here and hitting people. It’s coming out here and learning how to engage and win in a competitive environment. And that’s really what we did in that drill.

On where the team is right now:

This team to me, right now, is a team that is hungry. It’s a team that wants to win. But they’re not quite sure of the price that has to be paid in order to get it. It’s like a kid who is a little bit naïve about how much something costs. He says, “Well I want one of those.” And mom and dad may look at him and say, ‘We don’t have enough money for that.’ The thing I want our guys to understand is we have all the money we need. We can buy anything we want. But we have to be willing to pay the price to get it, and that price, it’s a high one. I think our guys are willing to do that, but I’ll know by mid-training camp.

On what it takes to become a great player:

I do know what it takes. It’s hard to say, ‘They’ll know it when this happens.’ It’s just like everything else. One day you’ll see it and you’ll feel it and say, ‘That’s it.’ It’s getting better every day. It’s paying attention to the details. It’s doing the small things extraordinarily well. When somebody makes a play and it looks like a great play, that should be routine. It’s knowing the difference between good and great. There is a thin line between the two, and it is finding that. Those are just some of the things.

On evaluating the quarterbacks:

The way we functioned (at quarterback) today, that’s just one thing. There are too many other things that are wrong. Before you can evaluate the quarterback, you have to make sure it is the quarterback that is the issue. Today there were just too many other things wrong, and it makes it difficult to evaluate the quarterback when so many other things are wrong. In order to get a fair assessment of who that guy is, we need to get all other things equal. The receivers are running their routes as fast and hard as they possibly can, and catching the ball when it’s in their area. Our offensive linemen are continuing to communicate with each other. Our running backs are picking up the guys they need to pick up on the blitzes. All those little things we have to do consistently before we can even look at the quarterback and say, ‘Okay this guy is going to give us a better chance of winning than that guy.’

On the crowd jeering Alex Smith:

I think it’s outstanding because Alex needs to learn how to deal with it. The fans, that’s what they are here for, that’s what they do. They are fans. The most important thing for Alex is to know it is going to happen. He just needs to move forward and keep getting better and overcome those little idiosyncrasies in his mind.

On whether he saw Alex Smith get over those idiosyncrasies today:

I did. I thought I did.

On who is the leading candidate to start at quarterback:

It doesn’t matter where we are today. I want to find the guy who is going to lead this team. Right now, I’m not seeing that guy. If you ask me to pick one of them now, I’m guessing. I don’t want to guess. I’ll say it is this guy today, but tomorrow it might be that other guy, and I don’t want to do that. I want those guys to compete on a level ground, and at some point in time, one guy will be better than the other and we’ll know that is the guy. That is when I will answer that quarterback question. Answering it now, to me, doesn’t make sense. It’s not going to be effective either way if I had to pick one today.

On todays opening drill, the "Nutcracker", vs. the "Oklahoma" drill:

On the "Oklahoma" drill, when a defensive guy gets up there, even if he’s not very good, he can just out-quick a guy and slap him to the side. It looks great, but when you’re up there and you’re playing against a line that’s not going to happen. You have go through the guy. I want the guys that are going to stand with a base underneath them, be fundamentally sound and take their man back to the quarterback, or the guy is going to take them into the defensive backfield. That’s what I’m looking for. I’m not looking for any dodging, any turning, any jumping around. I want you to go straight through the guy. And that is what we are trying to achieve. It is fundamentals. It is leverage and moving your feet. That gets tiring, but in a game, in the fourth quarter, the fundamentals always come back. And the team which is most fundamentally sound is going to win at the end.

On who stood out to him:

I’m not really looking on who is on defense or offense. I’m just trying to get 53 guys that will get up there consistently and do it. We had some guys who did okay, but today they were more or less understanding the drills.

On when Moran Norris will be in camp:

Whenever his personal business is done. I told him he has to do what he has to do. I know he wants to be here. We’ll stay in contact and when he’s done with that he will be here.

On whether Josh Morgan could emerge as the top receiver:

Josh has a lot of potential. We have a lot of confidence in him. It is just a matter of Josh continuing to get better. Does he have the potential? Absolutely. But a guy like Isaac Bruce isn’t around a long time for nothing. He knows what he is doing. He knows the workout routine he has to have. He knows how to be effective. He knows the routes. So, I think time is one of the things that will answer that question.

On Michael Crabtree:

There is nothing new. That is one of those things, as I said before, whoever is out here is who I am going to focus on. When that happens (he signs), I’ll be excited about it. But I’m not wondering when it is going to happen. I want the guys out here to make sure we’re ready. The most important thing I can do is make team understand that one guy coming in will not make the whole picture different. We just need to make sure we are getting better every day. I’m excited we have him, I know we want to have him and when the time is right, he’ll be here.

The key difference in this regime's 1st day of practice compared to previous 49er coaching regimes is the noticeably higher level of intensity, as in the Nutcracker Drill. Note the comment from former Steeler Marvel Smith who's competing for the starting RT job comparing it to the high-intensity Steeler summer camps.

Davis and Ahmed Brooks were apparently the offensive and defensive players of the day for the second day of training camp. Brooks was playing outside linebacker.

Nutcracker drill FTW. When I was in HS we called it Kings and Queens. It definitely gets the blood pumping and the competitive juices flowing.

I would be shocked if he sat out the year. Here's what I believe is going to happen: Crabtree will get tired of not being out there playing, and tell Parker to lower the demands and/or take whatever the Niners have offered. I see both sides of the argument, but honestly, the second contract is the one where players make the huge dollar amounts. Sitting at home isnt exactly helping his cause.

That said, I've literally been reading EVERYTHING about the Niners TC and I cant describe how anxious I am for the season to start.

Also, I was looking at tickets for the preseason game here in Dallas... $250 for a SECOND LEVEL seat! Seriously, what the ****? Goddamn I hate Jerry Jones/the Cowboys.

You guys know what -

**** Crabtree and his agent. I said it before, during and after the draft that I didnt want Crabtree and you guys can now see why. He's a piece of crap and so is his agent. There was a reason why he slipped to 10, its because of him and his agent.

I hope he does sit the hell out for a year and re-enter the draft, then when he doesnt get drafted until round 7, he'll realize what a huge mistake he made. And to top it off, if he was to fall to round 4 and it was up to me, I would draft his ass again just so I can tell him that im not offering him **** and that he has to sit out another ******* year.

Another ******* turd. That first rounder would have been better spent on someone else or even trading for Boldin. At least Boldin would have been worth the money as opposed to Crabtree who isnt worth two *****!!!

Me any my friend are trying to get tickets for that game too, maybe scalpers will have better prices? I can't afford that **** either, I was hoping I could get some high rise seats for a decent price, but I may not be making a game at all with those prices.

That's really the only game I wanted to try and make though.

And as far as Crabtree, you would like to think he'd want to get in asap so he could get a head start on the progress Morgan has made, he's going to start seperating himself by a wide margin pretty soon.
