The FSU Board of Trustees met in an impromptu session to consider handing over the reins of the FSU FB program to asst. Jimbo Fisher.
Clearly they believe that Bowden is too old & has lost his control over the players & their many off the field arrests & incidents involving the police. They called them the FSU Criminoles & called their college Free Shoes University for a reason.
ESPN pointed out yesterday that deciding the future of Bowden as the Seminoles HC is usually the exclusive realm of the FSU AD & their University President. The fact that the Board got involved on this issue & is circumventing the AD & President tells me that the board is tired of their FB team's mediocrity the last few yrs. ESPN said they believe that Florida St. has "lost their swagger."
And they have, & the recent near loss to Jacksonville St. was probably the straw that broke the camel's back.
Are they pulling the rug out from under Bowden?
Will this groundswell of statements from ESPN talking heads & other renowned HCs like Mack Brown & Joe Paterno saying Bowden has earned the right after 33 yrs. at FSU to determine when he retires save him this season?
I don't think so. I think the Board will force him out for the good of the program. Bowden has indicated for yrs. & again this yr. he has no plans to go, so this is the only way they can make a change.
This isn't unprecedented, sometimes long term college HCs become idols firmly cemented in their schools after working there for decades, Johnny Vaught at Ole Miss in the '60s had to almost be carried out of the Athletic Bldg. at Oxford to force him into retirement.
And when (not if) Bowden is forced out, will JoePa be far behind? I say no, only if Penn St. tanks & sinks into the level of mediocre W-L rcds. that FSU has.
