Vilma on the trade block?
Quote:
If the Fletcher-Baker deal isn't consummated and Clements opts to
sign elsewhere, the Redskins could trade for middle linebacker Jonathan
Vilma, the 2004 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year who struggled when the
New York Jets switched to a 3-4 scheme in 2006
|
Source:Washington Times
What are the chances that Vilma is indeed traded this offseason? Though he is young and has produced 2 seasons ago, Mangini has his 3-4 scheme going and Vilma has been vulnerable as an ILB, since he is usually getting locked up by and offensive lineman. So what are the chances, and what would it take to get him

it would take quite alot, seeing as how vilma is one of the best young linebackers in the league.

Id offer Antonio Pierce for him in a heartbeat. Id even throw in Chase Blackburn (whom Im real big on) to get it done if need be.

I'm glad we're staying with the 3-4, but if we moved to a 4-3, this guy would be a beast in the middle for the burgh.

I assume Vilma will cost 2 #1's. He is a very young and very productive LB in the 4-3 defense. He is smart, works very hard, and I really haven't seen him miss many tackles in his time in the league. The Jets may move him, but I guarantee they will get fair value for him...

Detroit would want him, but they don't have the assets to get him (unless you'd accept #34 overall, lol).

If we traded Vilma for any one pick straight up I would kill the Jets organization.
If we trade Vilma in general I'll be pissed the hell off, but if we do we better get back more than he's worth.

I went through that same experience, just not to that extent.
But seriously there is no way the Jets should trade Vilma because of one bad year. He is too talented to not be able to adjust to the defense and IMO he will do just fine next season.

They could have #18....
I would think they'd only use him to bounce up to the Lions pick somehow.

I'll take two number ones and another pick for him, but that's about it. He's simply too valuable in that he controls the whole defense. Him and Kerry Rhodes make all the defensive calls, and it's tough to trade a player just because he had an off year (115 tackles off year), in a scheme he's never played in.
