Default 09 Season Team Awards

Discuss these or add some more.

Most Disappointing Team: Tampa Bay Bucs. Disappointment was expected in Oakland & with the Rams (team was for sale, that's not a good sign).

Team Failure that Was the QB's Fault: Carolina & Delhomme. The Raiders qualify here too but rallied with Gradkowski. Also the Redskins with Campbell to a great extent.

Team Failure that Wasn't the QB's Fault: Seattle Seahawks. Hasselbeck was hassled & flummoxed all yr, no team or front office support, Mora had one foot out of Seattle & was actually just a One & Done placeholder for Carroll. Honorable Mention for NY Giants who went from NFC East Leader & best d-line in the NFL to circling the drain in rcd. time.

Biggest Surprise Team: NOLA Saints, unbeaten until 1st wk. of December.

Best Team Turnaround: Cleveland Browns, finishing the season strong with win streak that saved Mangini from One & Done. Honorable Mentions to Dallas Cowboys for eliminating the December Jinx, got that monkey off their back, destroyed the rival Eagles in 3 memorable games, & 1st playoff win since 1996, & to Cincy Bengals for revitalizing Cedric Benson's (& Marvin Lewis') career(s). Maybe the Titans too with their QBs changed.

Best Performance on a Team By A Nonplayer: Raiders & their War Pigeon.

No Brag, Just Facts Team: NY Jets, HC Ryan said they were the one the rest of the AFC should fear in the playoffs, but he backed it up: lsee the categories the Jets led at season's end. When Darelle "Last of the Shutdown Corners" Revis plays for your team, you can brag all you want.

Team That Most Needs to Get Outta Town: Buffalo Bills, going to Toronto as soon as Ralph Wilson dies. Whether they want to go or not..... everybody fired there, Buffalo is where coaching careers have gone to die. Honorable Mention to Jacksonville Jaguars en route to LA, sooner or later, whether there's a stadium for them or not.

Team Finally Emerging from Expansion Mediocrity: Houston Texans, finishing above .500 for 1st time in franchise history, Schaub led the league in passing.

Team Nonturnaround Reverting Most to Form: Denver. All that Who's Laughing Now? with their surprising the pundit who predicted McDaniel's & the Broncos demise after trading Cutler with a long unbeaten streak until October went bad in a big hurry in the later season, defense collapsed as usual, & Mr. Disloyalty Marshall decided he was right the 1st time he wanted to be traded.

Train-Wrecked Team: Eagles. Their defense really really missed Dawkins & the late Jim Johnson, couldn't beat Dallas on a bet.

Team That Should've Fired their HC, But Didn't: NY Giants, Carolina, Tampa Bay (should've kept Gruden a yr. ago, but we wouldn't have his quips from the MNF booth would we?), maybe the Browns too.

Team Most Affected by One Player Away from Winning: Steelers .... miss Polamalu much?

Ho-Hum Team in Regular Season to Scariest in the Playoffs: B-More Ravens, They did it to the Titans last yr. knocking off the hottest team in the league, then drove a stake into the NE Patriots ending their post-season dynasty this yr.

Team With Worst O-Line: Rams, they couldn't block an infant all yr. Honorable mentions to the Packers & Vikings but who took corrective actions.

Best Team Defense Turnaround: SF 49ers, from among the worst vs. the run & points given up in 08 to 3rd in the NFL vs. the rush in 09, not bad.

Most Improved Special Teams: Browns, Show Me the Money Cribbs emerged as a return specialist weapon

Team Gimmick: Miami Fins & their Wildcat, from 7+ yds/play to ineffectual (it only works when they aren't expecting it).

Go on, let's hear it.

Tampa Bay the most disappointing? Really? Nobody expected us to do well. Rookie QB + Rookie Coach + Rookie GM + Veteran Player Cuts = low expectations.

Interesting and entertaining. Although, regarding Cribbs "emerging" as a "return specialist weapon," that was about 3 years ago. You don't set the career mark for TD returns in just one year.

But yeah, I liked this list.

Team Most Affected by Injuries: Maybe the Ryan injury in Atlanta. I picked them vs. the Ravens in the next SB, I was wrong -- I admit it. Maybe half right with the Ravens? I'm sure ya'll can think of other teams in that category.

i agree 100% with the award you gave the Steelers, we missed Troy way to much.

Troy may be the only player that gained value by getting hurt

I agree with this, i'm not in any way disappointed by TB. For me, hands down the most disappointing team was the Chicago Bears. All the Cutlerceptions and the terrible o-line play that made Matt Forte look like ****.

Steelers missed Aaron Smith as much as they missed Troy. When he's out the run defense is crippled and the pass rush doesn't get there nearly as often. They lost their two most valuable defensive starters and people wonder why the defense collapsed.

But then again I say that about Coughlin pretty much every yr. Not so much about his coaching, just his personality..... the man s/b coaching HS at best.

It's widely known Coughlin changed his personality 3 years ago. He's not nearly the same hard ass he used to be. In fact most players actually like playing for him know.

Carolina had a 4 game slide from last year, but consider that the team had the following injuries:

LT (season)
RT (season)
OLB (season)
RB (stewart and D-Williams missed multiple games)
FB
DT
DT
DT
S
CB
QB
G

and Jake Delhomme melted down, Fox probably should have kept his job after managing to take a team falling apart at the seams and turn them around under a QB with very little experience and have him beat two playoff teams and play well enough to earn a QB rating good enough for 8th in the NFL, meanwhile the defense went on a tear late in the season.

The first half of the season wasn't great, but Fox showed when required he can turn it around, why not let him finish out his contract?
