Yeah, the Giants were in a tough spot. They didn't wanna pay Luke's original salary but the guy was offended when he was cut, making it impossible for them to re-sign him cheaper.

I like it.. He is easily an upgrade over Anthony Davis

"Free-agent tackle Luke Petitgout has reached agreement with Tampa Bay on a three-year, $15.5 million deal that includes a $3 million signing bonus. "

If the Bucs get Calvin Johnson their offense is going to be fantastic. Although they will have to be, with that deteriorating defense.

Helps that terrible offensive line that they send out there year in and out; Dan Buenning is prolly the most consistent

Joseph and Trueblood played well in the brief time as rookies. That O-Line should be solidified next year if they stay healthy. They just need a play-maker at WR, which is why I posted above that Calvin Johnson would complete that offense.

from a giants standpoint, look at it this way. We can give Whimper a shot. Coming out of college a big plus on him is that he played with a real nasty streak(like snee) and could pave the way for jacobs. It's good giving the kid a shot, other wise you never know. He could end up being the next Pace or Walter Jones, or just another LT who couldnt make it in the leauge. Same at LB with Wilkinson and Chase

This is good. If we can snag a center that fits our sustem we can hold off on picking up a LT for a while, and we'll have a solid line.

LT: Petigout
LG: Buenning
C: Wade, for now
RG: Joseph
RT: Trueblood

The initial contract that was posted here is wrong.

The Bucs signed him to a 3 year-$15.5 million deal

Adam Shefter was wrong, the numbers on that linked were changed.

Still a good deal.

This is pretty exciting. I'm not a big Anthony Davis fan, and we needed to add a veteran to our line. This will create healthy competition between Trueblood and the other 2, may the best man win.

Kalil in the 2nd and offensive line will be a major strength for us.

Now that I think of it, Petitgout could actually work real well in the WCO. Because of the 3 step drops, he won't have to pass protect as long, which was his weak suit. He's a great run blocker, and the WCO will mask some of his problems. Good move by the Bucs.

He's old though, so they'll have to look for a long term answer at LT regardless. Maybe not this year, but definately next year.

I love this signing, he is the only FA who could play LT, and the bucs got him relatively cheap

I was surprised how cheap we got him. With guards getting 7 million dollar deals getting the best OT in free agency for 5 million is pretty good. Especially since the OT class was weak compared to OG.

Do the Bucs by any chance play in Seattle next year?

A solid signing, and he passed the physical which was my biggest concern. Hopefully the back problems don't cause him to miss any time. Don't think for a second that this would prevent the Bucs from drafting Joe Thomas if he somehow fell to #4. If the FO feels JT can take over at LOT straight out of camp, then Luke can be in the mix at LOG since Buenning injured and his recovery doesn't look promising. Davis would compete at LOG or be swing tackle backup.

Indeed. I wasn't so much against it as I was surprised by it. If Guy Whimper is coming along as well as they say, we might not need to pay to big money someone who we're not really sure about.

That allows them to either be more aggressive in addressing their defense, or be more aggressive in moving up for Calviin Johnson, because as it stands now, I'm not sure Johnson is there either (with Detroit looking a strong option). Raiders could actually have trade options now ... or the Buccaneers could look at adding say, Gaines Adams or Amobi Okoye.
Moving Joseph to center would the stupidest thing ever. And Buenning is a great young guard but he tore his ACL and we'll see how he recovers but moving DJ to center is COMPLETELY stupid.

i gotta say when i went to giants.com the day they cut luke i was livid. immensely livid and in shock. it made no sense what soever. now we are pissing in the wind. luke was one of my favorite giants. Luke Petigout has a nasty streak, hes a beast. remember when he threw down akers by his head hahaha.

Because Chris Simms is left handed (assuming he is the starter when the season begins and they feel comfortable with that, during contract negotiations the garunteed him starter/his job to lose status) should the right side get some if not more attention to protect his blind-side.

The Bucs seem to be comfortable with Trueblood at ROT, but if Simms wins the starting job I'm sure the FO would take a closer look. Honestly, though, at this point I think Garcia is the odds-on favorite to start. Gruden has been trying to get him on board for years.
