Default About Peppers

Hey was just thinking... last year us and the Skins were the last two in the running for Big Al and when we played the Skins this past year Albert said that we offered more money than the Skins did. So with that being said, why does no one have us offering a big contract to Pep? We still need a game changer on the D line. Pep and McCoy or Suh could really help our line.

We're in a rebulding process now and we're not going to give a player like Peppers, who is 30 years old, a contract worth 10-15 million a year when his work ethic is in question and his own teammates called him out on it. You don't overpay for free agents, just look at what Washington did last year with Haynesworth. You know how many message boards and comments I read saying how the Bucs were cheap and couldnt land him? I wouldn't pay him that much and he didnt play a full season last year, AGAIN and his production wasn't anywhere near the stats and precense of Kevin Williams.

Build through the draft and use the cash to lock up guys like T-Jack, Joseph and Ruud right now.

Peppers and McCoy/Suh.

That brings instant credibility to a defense that already looked awfully good going into the off-season.

RDE- Peppers
DT- McCoy
DT- Hovan/FA/Rookie
LDE- Moore
WLB- Hayes
MLB- Ruud
SLB- Black/FA/Rookie
CB- Talib
FS- Jackson
SS- Sabby/FA/Rookie
CB- Barber

Damn good unit.

Then again, this would require the Glazers to spend money, which we know won't happen.

But the Bucs were willing to overpay for Haynesworth last year... we offered more money, he picked the Skins. And to say the whole work ethic thing... Haynesworth didn't have that great of a work ethic. I'm just saying we tried to get the biggest fish in the pond last year... so why is no one taking about us trying this year.

The fact that we chased one player last season has absolutely no impact on whether or not we'll chase Peppers.

That and the fact that the Buccaneers never really had a chance with Haynesworth. He was offered so much more guaranteed money that we were probably never in the running. Of course he gave us lip service, but that is expected these days.

bigbuc,

There is a difference between this year and last year bud. First of all, Haynesworth was what, 26, 27 years old. He was basically right in his prime and a 5-6 year deal would have been perfect for us to give him.

Peppers is 30, 3-4 years older than Haynesworth and honestly, at that age if he still wants to be productive, might fit better in a 3-4 scheme to be worth a 5-6 year deal. Also, we aren't going to overpay for peppers. He isn't the most dominating DE in the game, so why pay him like it?

Haynesworth would have been 28 when he played for us this year... also the fact that Haynesworth only had one in half great seasons before he became a free agent and the fact that he misses on avg 4 games a year. Would make him just as big of a risk as trying to sign Peppers this year bud. Also when did I ever say Peppers was the most dominating DE in the game? All I said was that we tried to overpay Haynesworth last year so its not that far to think that we would try to overpay for Peppers this year being that DE is just as big a need now with Adams gone and Wilkerson's knee blown out. Also for as big of a nut case Peppers is I would sign him for 10 to 11 mill a year. Sense 2002 when he got drafted the guy is second in the NFL in sacks. Is he Jason Allen... NO! But is he a top 5 player at his position... YES. Can he take over games by himself... YES. Does some games he get shutout... YES. But so does Jason Allen just look at the NFC Championship game.

I know that... But last year one of our biggest needs was DT and we went out and tried to land the best one on the market. We were one of the last two teams in the race and Albert pick the other team.

So going into this year its not that crazy to think that we would go after Peppers being that DE is now just as big of a need as DT was last year. And that last year we were willing to pay Albert 10 millish a season.

Peppers's body and style of play projects well into his mid-thirties but there is always the fear that he might not give a ****. Even in contract years he has taken more than enough plays off.

Besides, the amount of scratch he'll garner can be properly allocated into multiple positions and depth.

Are you sure that we were never in the running? That's funny cause look at this

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/pos...s-too-tempting

Its from week four when we played the skins...

Words from Albert himself "They really came after me hard in the few hours they had," Haynesworth said. "After I told the Redskins that I was going to come to the Redskins, (the Bucs) made their strongest stand. They offered more than Redskins. But I said I was here."

I am sure. They offered him a larger overall deal but less guaranteed money.

Still, would you want to overpay for Peppers when the cost would be the highest DE ever? No! Hes lazy and takes plays off. He doesn't have that winning attitude. He is in it for the money because he wants to be paid. He doesn't give a rats @** whether he wins or not. If St. Louis on March 5 comes in and offers him a ludicrous contract, larger than any other team, I gurantee he would take it in a heartbeat.
