Default Just 5 picks in the Draft how to pick up more..

So with the deepest draft in several years according to most experts, we only hold 5 picks and only 2 in the first 4 rounds. Do you think we should look at picking up more picks or maybe even stock pile for next year when the draft looks to be deeper yet again?

Could Troy Smith, Dawan Landry, Willis McGahee be trade bait to pick up additional picks for us to draft young, inexpensive, depth for the team?

Thoughts?

Well Mcgahee won't get you anything but a late rounder. Considering Seneca Wallace was just traded for a 7th rounder which could be elevated to a 6th rounder if he starts, I doubt you get more than a 6th for Smith. Getting a 5th rounder for him would be optimistic at best. As for Landry even though he has the 2nd round tender if a team where to work out a deal for him a 4th rounder would probably be the most likely especially since the safety group is one of the strongest in the draft class. I think trading away the 2nd rounder for a 3rd and 4th would be a good move. This also is one of those draft classes that if you see someone you want at the top of the 2nd you might consider trading next years first to get the pick. Just like Carolina did last year by trading this years first for a second rounder to take Everette Brown to replace peppers. Or maybe if you see a guy in the 3rd you want, trading one of this years 5ths and a 2nd next year. In an uncapped year like this when teams are cutting so many vets to clear room I can't see you getting that much value by selling some of your unwanted parts. I can't see a team giving any pick for Mcgahee when the RB class is deep and there are so many just as talented if not better vets than Mcgahee who are FA's like LT, Westbrook, LJ, Betts etc. If you want to get extra picks this season you will have to lease future picks.

I would be fine with trading anyone of those player. Sadly I dont think there is much of a market for them.

We really do need to get some more picks in this draft. I think we will trade down in the 1st and try to get some more picks. If we trade back to the top half of the second, we still will have a shot at some real good players.

I think though Smith could get a higher pick with the right Team. Yes Wallace has had more in season experience but Troy Smith has played exceptional when given the chance. A team like Buffalo or Carolina might be willing to give up a 4th or a 5th to get him. Then we could package all 3 of our 5th rd picks for a 3rd or even a late 2nd maybe? I would except getting a 3 players in the first 2 rds and one in the 6th if we are getting quality players...

I really cant see Troy Smith garnering a 4th, even in this QB needy league. But on another note...why would we want to move him? You are right, he has played well in certain situations, and hes more valuable to us as an esteemed backup and Wildcat option then a 5th round pick might be.

I say hang on to Willis, mainly due to the amount of touches Rice got last year. Plus you have to have 2 solid RBs nowadays, and Willis might be the best backup in the NFL in terms of being able to be a #1 should something happen to your starter. Troy Smith and Landry can both get the hell out and send back some picks for all I care.

Very true, Willis is one of those guys who's trade value is so uneven to his actual value to his own team. I wouldn't want to get rid of Willis. You don't want an inexperienced guys backing him. Also if you trade him for just a 7th round pick, then what do you do, sign a guy like Westbrook or LJ who aren't proven backups. Willis proved last year that he can go games without getting any touches and then step in and play like he's an All pro. He proved last year to be the perfect backup and didn't complain once to Ray taking over. Willis being here will extend Rice's career and also keep both fresh.

The question is will McGahee even get any touches? it was pathetic the way he rarely got the ball. He should get more touches this year then last year.

You don't get rid of anyone in exchange for picks, just trade back and stock up. Trading back is easily the best scenario for this team.

I feel like Cam Cameron should utilize more of Willis McGahee in the run game and use Ray Rice more in the pass game.

That way Rice would stay fresh throughout the year.

On that note, I'd like to see McClain used more as well.

yeah, I'd be down for McClain and McGahee sharing carries and Rice getting all the 3rd down work. He's great in the passing game. But I doubt this will happen.

Rice is just too good to be restricted to only 3rd down usage.
