Gaither is a good starting LT in the NFL and is only 24. He isn't perfect and he will make some mistakes but he has great potential. With his size, feet and age, he should not be even close to available, but because the Ravens have another starting LT in Oher, Gaither is somewhat expendable.

If push comes to shove with cap space, I would rather lose Gaither, slide over Oher and have money to resign Ngata long term then have both OTs. Gaither is going to get paid big in the next two years and the Ravens might want to get picks now because they honestly are questioning if he is worth resigning.

Quote:
The Ravens are shopping their starting offensive tackle Jared Gaither these days and have reportedly lowered their asking price. This according to Jason La Canfora of NFL.com. And the Raiders are a possible trade partner.

The Ravens slapped a first round tender on the restrictred free agent but are now taking offers for a high second round pick. The Raiders have a high second round pick to offer (39 overall) so it becomes a situation where extreme need and ideal compensation meet. There is also the coaching connection with Hue Jackson having come over from the Ravens as the Raiders new offensive coordinator. He could be the connecting fibers that allows this deal to get done.

It is no secret that the Raiders are desperate for a solid right tackle.Cornell Green was not doing the job and has since been allowed to leave(some say he was put out to pasture to assault Buffalo with a mop handle). Khalif Barnes showed last season that he is not the answer to replace him. Gaither would be a huge upgrade over either of them.

ESPN has also reported on the Raiders' possible interest in acquiring Gaither
Makes alot of sense for us trading for him

It's still unlikely for it go down.

However, if it did, I can assure you, that's it's not going to take just a 2nd rounder. Expect Ozzie to try and recoup some of the picks he lost in the Boldin trade.

Maybe a 4th and a 6th/7th?

and I still don't think it's likely. I mean, after everything they did this offseason to try and eliminate that one "glarring need" (trading for Boldin, re-signing Mason, adding Stallworth and Corey Redding, why would they go and trade Gaither and leave a HUGE hole at tackle?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Is that enough of a reason? It's why players of Boldin's caliber get dealt as well, nobody's safe, even at a position like tackle, especially if you're able to keep around a cheaper option who could replace your production. Ozzie's not stupid, he knows what he's doing here.

Exactly, and that's why it's going to take more than a 2nd to get Gaither.

I didn't deny that. I just think it's ridiculous to dismiss the whole trade possibility.

Colts need to get on this, we want to get bigger on the O-line, we need a tackle and the depth likely wont be there in the draft at 31 for a quality starting LT, get to work Bill!

You're right, money is a huge factor, and I never dismissed the whole trade possibility, I just said I thought it was unlikely.

NO WAY!! lol, we have a hard time getting to Peyton Manning without Gaither. I would hate if Ozzie gave you guys Gaither, strengthening a team that we have a hard time beating is just silly. Especially since we will likely see the Colts in the playoffs.

The Raiders do make a lot of sense. We're implementing a new power scheme similar to the one run in Baltimore, I believe.

NFL Network the other day said the Skins have heavy interest in Gaither. 36th pick>39th pick, plus we are not in the same conference and it would be doing Gaither a service since he's from the area.

Does Gaither fit though? We all know Shanny loves the ZBS and I don't see Gaither as a good fit in that system.

Gaither isn't your guy then lol. He's not really a big physical tackle, he's more finesse than power (which is crazy considering his size, but it's true).

It's purely a financial decision if you ask me. Ozzie realizes that long-term, keeping both Gaither and Oher is unrealistic. Oher is his guy over Gaither and now is his chance to get something out of Gaither. Somewhat similar to letting Adalius Thomas walk so that they could keep Suggs. I wouldn't really look at this as a reflection on Gaither aside from them preferring Oher.

As a Packer fan, I'd happily give up #23 for him.

not really, Ozzie knows his defense, but not sure about the offence.

I think that the lack of offense through the years was from Billickk and his decisions.

So its likely to be a 2nd round pick and another pick probably a next years pick in the 4th?

I would love this trade for Oakland. What about a swap in the 1st and a 3rd round pick?

Ravens get 8th overall pick and high 3rd, which they don't have right now.

Raiders get their OT and now can go in a different direction 25th overall.

Ozzie and Eric would probably want another pick as well. Swap 1st, their 3rd rounder and maybe a 5th or 6th.

I think if they do trade Gaither, it will be a draft day trade.

Gaither has a first round tender. Stop deluding yourself into thinking it's gonna be a package deal. You will get A pick if and when he gets traded.

So new rule, NBA: Unless you have a root canal at halftime, SHUT UP AND PLAY!

49ers should deal pick #17 and #49 for Gaither and pick #25.

That would balance Gaither's value as the 29th pick (1st round tender).
