Top 10 players in AFC East
I just thought this could start a good discussion going into the season.
10. Wes Welker-New England Patriots
With 346 catches in the last 3 years, Welker has shown himself to be Tom Brady's safety blanket. Virtually uncoverable in the type of routes he runs his only negative being a lack of TDs.
9. Logan Mankins-New England Patriots
For the past few years Logan Mankins has cemented himself among the top 3 or 4 guards in the NFL. While above average in pass blocking his aggression and technique in the run game is phenomenal.
8. Jake Long-Miami Dolphins
When drafted, a lot of 'experts' said he would be limited to playing RT in the NFL, however he has quickly become one of the top LTs in the league. Utterly dominant in Miami's run based offense he should be a pro bowler for years to come.
7. D'Brickashaw Ferguson-New York Jets
After being a highly touted prospect coming out of college Ferguson had a slow start to his career. However, IMO, in the last few years he has become the second best LT in the NFL behind Joe Thomas.
6. Brandon Marshall-Miami Dolphins
Brandon Marshall offers the Dolphins their first true receiving threat in years and he should flourish. Not one to be a great deep threat, however he will benefit from more single coverage than a WR his caliber should see.
5. Nick Mangold-New York Jets
The Jets really struck oil in the first round of the 2006 NFL draft. In a division where every team now plays out of a 3 man front with massive NTs, the pivot has become an extremely important position and Mangold is hands down the best in the NFL.
4. Randy Moss-New England Patriots
While few people will still say Moss is the best WR in the NFL anymore he is still undoubtedly the most schemed against player in the history of the position. No player can dictate a defensive gameplan as much as Moss. In a contract year and fully healthy he should have another tremendous season.
3. Vince Wilfork-New England Patriots
In traditional 2 gap 34 defenses, the NT is the main player in the defense. Without the big space eater the LBs cannot make plays in the run and the OLB/DEs cant make plays in the passing game. Wilfork is the prototype in the NFL for this type of player.
2. Darrelle Revis-New York Jets
Darrelle Revis has quickly become one of the best and most complete defensive players in the game. The collection of all pro and pro bowl WRs he simply shut down last year was ridiculous. He is on the way to becoming one of the best defensive backs of his generation.
1. Tom Brady-New England Patriots
In a QB driven league Brady is still one of the best. Despite having a 'down year' last year he still past for over 4,400 yards and 28TDs. With a full offseason to get healthy and with Randy Moss fully healthy he should be close to 2007 form again.
Just missing the cut:
Karlos Danby, Jerod Mayo, David Harris, Lee Evans, Ronnie Brown, Fred Jackson, Randy Starks, Brandon Merriweather, Jairus Byrd
