Houshmanzadeh might be available soon. Definitely an improvement. I really do think we are just standing pat though.

Houshmandzadeh would not be a bad choice as a replacement for Michael Jenkins. But he doesn't mesh with our team attitute, nor would he park his ego and desire for more money than he's worth.

Wonder if we go after Shayne Graham. We have expressed some concern over Bryant.
I'm happy we were able to keep Jose Valdez around. He's a big dude and he has definitely shown some promise.

We better get Graham or Brown after Bryant's shaky preseason. I would be upset if we didn't.
As I was reading the title, it made me remember some of the recent games against the Steelers. If they are any indication, we are in for one helluva ride on Sunday. In 02, Vick brought us back from a 17 point (4th q?) deficit to tie the game and in 06, Vick threw 4 TD passes and lead us to an OT win.

I remember our pass rushing killing Big Ben one game. He suffered a concussion and had to leave. I remember he got sandwiched between chauncey davis and Patrick Kerney.

Ravens get Housh. It's be nice to give Matt Ryan some weapons so he doesn't have to stare down Gonzo and White constantly.

Damn it. Sucks that we aren't going after either Housh or VJ.

What week is Jenkins due back? I actually don't mind if we play with Finneran. I think we're stronger with Finneran and Douglas then with Jenkins and no Douglas.

Douglas is the key. Jenkins/Finneran will be glorified blockers, so they are interchangeable as far as I am concerned.

Little upset that Dennis Dixon is starting. 1. Because I'm a huge fan of his and 2. Because he could actually make a difference in this game.

He's more likely to throw three picks though.

I think it's far more likely that he throws a TD and a pick and runs all over us than it is that he implodes and blows the game for Pitt.

I like DD, but Im not worried about facing him. The offensive line is horrible and he's not the best passer. Put guys in his face and he'll have a horrible game. The only thing Im concerned with is his mobility compared to someone like Leftwich. He's gonna avoid a lot of would be sacks.

I hate to downplay things but I really don't see Dennis as a factor
yes he can scramble but hes not a good passer, since Weatherspoon is
versatile VanGorder can have Sean mirror Dennis throughout
the game which should limit him.

Im also not worried about Dennis, it not like he is even close to what Vick was when he was with us, also doesnt really have a ton of experience, the speed hes gonna face will be much different than his glory days in college.
I honestly don't see him doing much aside from managing the game, b/c Im only worried about Mendenhall.
Key to this game is to get a lead early and force Dixon to beat us with his arm.

Really the way I look at it, doesn't matter who starts at QB for them. If we can't rush the passer, he can easily find targets all day. I don't think our mentality changes, we'll just switch our scout team QB from Redman to JPW.
Edit: In the Mike Smith/TD era we had really great opening games. I am liking this one. In the books I think we have a good advantage. Looks to be a more defensive game.

Besides, Dixon voids the Steelers only terrifying weapon: Mike Wallace. That guy is capable of putting up multiple 40+ yard touchdowns. Dixon probably won't throw more than ten yards down the field.

First snap will go to Jamaal Anderson, from then you have no idea who will be there. Really we don't have a starter at that LE position because 4 guys will switch around. Same will RE, you'll see Jamaal Anderson, John Abraham, Biermann, Sidbury, Davis.

Biermann won the starting job. He is first on the depth chart. Might as well abandon the Jamaal Anderson ruse.

Spoon is starting as well. Also, Trey Lewis is going to get the start. While it's going to be an extremely heavy rotation, what a change. If before camp you told me Lewis was going to get cut, I would not have been shocked at all. He's just been a monster this preseason though.

typically i agree...but hartwig was so terrible that he led the league in sacks given up for a center the last 2 years with a total of 17 (the next was 11 i believe) that is unbelievably high for an interior linemen...he literally got blown off the ball non stop and steam rolled into the backfield, making essex and kemo look bad because they had to compensate. it might be bad but i expect it to be alot better by a wide margin with a center than doesnt get put on his ass play after play after play.
id like to see anderson play because hes slow and flo should be able to manhandle anyone without great speed....flo played really well near the end of the preseason. starks will certainly have his hands full with abraham though. starks has weeks where he dominates peppers, freeney, and ware, then he has games where nobodies have HOF like games against him...should be interesting to say the least, i guess dixon can always run for his life if he needs to lol
i think spoon has the sideline to sideline range to have 10+ tackles in this game so i hope they are willing to go downfield and block for mendenhall

I don't like mike peterson starting, or even on the team.
