Why is Jared Allen getting a pass?

He has been pretty ordinary but you can't understate the difference that our absolutely abysmal offensive playcalling and execution has on the defense.

Allen has always been a guy who is a beast when he can pin the ears back and just pass rush and has always looked a bit lost to me on plays where he has to honour the run, the "positive" that I've noticed with him this year is that he isn't getting abused on screens and draws like he has in the past because he isn't just selling out on a pass rush every play. It almost feels like he is hesitant in pass rushing this year.

The playcalling and Favre have not helped his or any of the defenses cause, they are giving up scores, turning it over, putting us behind and not even eating clock up. Entirely not Peterson's fault, he is running better than ever when Childress decides to put him in and hand off.

Not a free pass for Allen though, he has been ordinary so far and isn't playing with the same motor or burst he has in the past and doesn't look anywhere near as aggressive, almost like he is playing scared. I think that being replaced as the guy with the "best" hair in the division has rocked his confidence!

No no no...Those guys are excellent athletes who happen to play football well.

Allen gets by with savvy, smarts, and hard work. Those guys are just bigger and/or faster than everyone...Duh.

Seriously, though - anyone who wants to can look at tape or online video and see Pepp giving zero effort on plenty of plays. That's just not something you see from Allen.

I personally don't think it'd be fair to jump all over Allen. Most pass rushing defensive ends have off years and this is Allen's first in his entire career. I've been waiting for it to happen.

This is true. Pass rushers are historically very streaky.

He's not getting a free pass. Jared Allen hasn't gotten pressure at all this year. One sack and one interception and some odd number tackles. This year has been far from productive for him.
