Cortland Finnegan gets fined all the time for the tiniest things.

Just get used to it. Players who have a history like that don't have the benefit of the doubt. If it's borderline, then they'll fine him.

James Harrison was fined $20,000 for his hit on Drew Brees on Sunday.

Here's the hit:

Is it just me, or was the Brees hit really not that bad?

Penalty deserving? Yes, the hit was late. Anything more extreme seems unnecessary to me.

He put the crown of his head in the back of Brees' head/neck. I think it could be a non fine but Harrison is a repeat offender.

The fine was for a late hit? I thought it was a helmet thing. That's a pretty weak late hit, it was honestly right after.

The f**** f*** still doesn't understand this simple concept:

If your eyes are looking down at the ground when the hit is delivered, that means the HELMET IS LEADING.

It's not so complicated and there's no conspiracy!
We'd like to prevent injuries and ridding the league of guys who refuse to tackle within the rules is within the boundaries. Figure it out 92.

Again, put leather helmets on these guys and see if their instincts still have them looking down at the turf and leading with their helmets !!!!!!

That is a rubbish fine. It is roughing the passer. That is it.

What is this world coming to...

If a roughing the passer is fineable, why aren't things like holding, pass interference, clipping and the like also fineable? They are also completely covered within the rules and thus there is no need to fine or suspend for them...

Polamalu is on point, the people in charge are entirely separated from the game and are taking away the types of things that make it great.

Okay, i know you're not this dumb, please.

Holding? Pass interference? What the **** is wrong with you? Those plays are penalized in game because they gave an unfair advantage, that's it. It isn't deemed malicious to hold a guy, or to interfere with him catching the ball. You don't risk injury with a hold. Clipping and illegal blocks are 100% fineable. Ask Flozell Adams.

WTF is wrong with you people? Look at him as he's about to make contact with Brees. He thrusts his head towards the back of his helmet/neck.

I'm pretty sure roughing the passer and late hits have been a mandatory fine for a while now.

You have totally missed the point. The rule is there for those things, holding is every bit as dangerous as that hit was yet you wont see anyone getting fined for a hold.

I have grown up watching a sport where a "tribunal" to punish those who break rules has made the game legitimately worse to watch and support and I hate that another sport that I watch is starting to head down that path.

You have the rules on the field for things that happen on the field. The only time I will ever support fines or suspensions is for things beyond those rules, like players who stomp on other players or for swinging punches. There is no place for that, but someone who hits a QB late is penalised in the game, especially a hit as pathetic as that one which he quite clearly pulled out of.

Quote:
WTF is wrong with you people? Look at him as he's about to make contact with Brees. He thrusts his head towards the back of his helmet/neck.
Are we watching the same play? He was breaking down to tackle and pulls out, watch his arms, he still hit him, thus the flag, but if he had any intent then he would have gone through with the tackle and destroyed Brees. Now he didn't pull up, but he also did not hit him hard or with any kind of malicious intent.

Again, I have no problem with the flag, that is what the rule is, but to fine for that is just pathetic, that was a textbook roughing the passer, why have a rule if you don't think the rule is sufficient...

I stand by that the real losers from a suspension are the fans who have to watch a lesser product as a result.

I hope someone makes a form tackle on a QB, between the shoulder and waist, and the QB gets really messed up (no one important, maybe Jamarcus Russell). Id love to see how the NFL reacted to that.

Harrison watches the ball leave Brees' hand and then lowers his head. He had plenty of time stop without even moving out of the way. In fact, he had to re-adjust the angle in which he was heading just to hit Brees. His eyes are looking right at Brees when the ball leaves his hands. Harrison could've easily avoided the hit and a fine but he's too stupid to think that way. In his mind, football is nothing more than a legal way to hurt people.

I have no real issue with late hits on quarterbacks(many are easily forgivable and 5 years ago wouldn't even be penalized). It's the players that lead with the helmet and are intentionally trying to hurt/injure QB's that need to be sent packing. Harrison would not have gotten a fine if he kept his chin up.

Harrison clearly dips his head and puts the crown of his head into the base of Brees' helmet/neck.

The guy is a total jackass and deserves every fine he gets now. Call it a dumbass, crybaby tax if it makes you feel better, but don't defend him. His idiocy, at this point, is completely indefensible.

How is a hold the least bit dangerous?
