Yea he's been a lousy head coach, but I can see him get an offer. People can look at the Matt Ryan (now pro bowl) success and hope Mularkey can develop their young QB like that. A lot of teams looking for a HC now.

The amount of respect the Falcons get is comical. I was watching a video on NFL.com talking about the most dangerous team in the NFC and of course there was no mention of the Falcons. It was the usual 'Saints are finally putting it together' and 'if the Packers make the playoffs, they look ready to explode.' The only reason the Eagles weren't on there was because there were only 2 analysts talking.
It doesn't make sense. Yeah, we just lost a hard fought game against the Saints, but if we were to play them again in the GA Dome, there would be a 98% chance we win. How often are the Saints going to count on a Todd McClure fumble (for the 5 years I have been watching Falcons football, I have never seen him mess up a snap) or a Michael Turner fumble (first in 417 carries) to win a game? How often are the Falcons going to cash in on Brees' mistakes (his 2 picks on Monday made it 21 for the season, and 4 against the Falcons in 2 outings)? The Saints played defense played brilliantly by shutting down Turner and Roddy, but where is the credit for the Falcons defense? They rank 5th in the league in points allowed and held Brees to a measly 6.2 ypa while allowing 3.0 ypc against the rush.
And the Packers? Really? The team that was supposed to be so loaded with talent that a playoff ticket was virtually guaranteed and SB predictions were abundant? Where are they in the playoff hunt again? What happened to their high powered offense when it came to the GA Dome? 17 points. They definitely have the potential to explode, but I do not trust that team with 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter to pull through.
I knock on wood now, but the only team that scares me in the GA Dome are the Michael Vick led Eagles.

I don't think the Falcons deserve that much respect. The reason I say this is because we are very predictable, especially on offence. And you never know what kind of defense will show up. I'm not trying to say this team can't get to the superbowl and win it, I'm just saying they have a lot of flaws.
The major problem that the falcons have is that they can lose to any team. Even the panthers put up a fight and ran it through the gut. They can also beat any team in the league, but that's how they are. We can lose in week 1 of the playoffs or win the superbowl.

I've come to the conclusion it's because we aren't sexy. I live in Jersey, so I get to hear a lot of commentary on the Falcons about people who probably know very little about us. But like I said, it's the lack of sexiness. Our defense is bend but don't break. We allow a lot of yards and the only person most people know is Abe.
On offense, Roddy's really the only "personality" and is that only one putting up crazy numbers. Everyone knows Turner is good, but he doesn't make those Adrian Peterson esque runs everyone goes nuts about. Same with Ryan. He's been very good this year, but it's the year of Brady and Vick. And Matt's not in that company yet.
We are based on being extremely disciplined, holding on to the football, and dictating the flow of the game. It's not sexy enough to get respect.

FALCONS (-14.5) over Panthers
At stake: For Atlanta, the No. 1 seed in the NFC. For the Panthers, they've already clinched the No. 1 pick -- that means John Fox already boxed up his office, tipped the janitors, put his house on the market and took one last regretful, "It didn't have to play out this way" glare at Matt Moore.
Why you should pick the Falcons: Because you don't want to be stuck with Clausen trailing by 17 in the Georgia Dome as the announcer says, "It's time for Jimmy Clausen to make something happen."
Enduring lesson from 2010:You can't win a Super Bowl by playing it safe. Atlanta's offense played missionary position football for four quarters and blew a winnable Saints game on Monday; it was almost like Marty Schottenheimer had put on a Mike Smith mask and hijacked the team. If the Falcons play that passively in January, they will lose just like Marty always did. Mark my words. Take it to the bank. Lock it down. End of story. Period. Fin. (And any other authoritative and slightly condescending conclusion you want to put here.)
Good little blurb from ESPN

Yeah I kind of want Mike Mularkey to get hired as a HC. We can get someone who isn't afraid to open up our game plan and keep defensives on tilt with aggressive play-calling. That and a slot WR who can make plays. We should have drafted Jordan Shipley last year.

I wasn't a big Shipley fan, but in retrospect, that would have been nice. I think we put too much into Harry Douglas coming back and being what he was his rookie year coming off a major injury. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who remembers the articles about how he'd open the offense up and be our Welker.
It will be interesting to see if TD holds the same confidence. (I get the feeling he probably will.)

If we don't get a new OC next year, we won't be able to put any points up.

I'm craving a WR early on in the draft...
Our first round DL have been busts and I don't see any way a WR could not produce for us under current circumstances.
Then after that hit up the trenches.

You guys dislike Mularkey that much? I'm going to be honest, I don't think the Falcons have many weapons so I think what he's doing is the smart move.
If you can defend White (which is easier said than done), you pretty much neutralize this passing attack. If you guys want to air it out in the future, you need to add some talent to that offense.
You desperately need a slot WR to take pressure off of White. I'd say that's your biggest need on offense. A slot WR would do wonders for your offense.

He's not as bad as we are making him sound. We are just shooting some negativity around because our offensive play calls against the Saints were predictable and vanilla. A decent offense output and we win that game. Over all, he's pretty solid. Nice balanced attack, but he has flaws. I know Matt doesn't have the greatest deep ball, but it's such a rare occurrence we see one. We never run screens, and seeming all of our pass plays are long developing intermediate routes with almost no chance of YAC.
And yes, I've been preaching someone to take pressure off of Roddy for ever now. (Even with Jenkins' improvement this year, he's still just a solid receiver who is a great blocker.) Whether it be a slot guy or a scat back that can run after the catch. After the season I think it's more likely that Gonzo retires and we pick up someone like Kyle Rudolph and a scat back in round 3 or 4.

I would rather get a scat back. That way we can take some pressure of Turner and add a weapon on passing plays. At the same time it's hard to find one.

A slant pass to Roddy? A slip screen to Harry Douglas? Who are we?

Anyone else hate it when we are up by a few scores and we constantly run into 17 man fronts?
