This coming from an Ohio State fan?

As Andy Staples wrote today: ”You’ve forfeited the right to the moral superiority you’ve enjoyed over the SEC. Oh, the SEC grad defended the SEC and took a shot at the Big 10? Unpossible.

Letting kids who were suspended for 5 games play in one game the NCAA allowed them to play in is NOWHERE near taking away a kids scholarship because you didn't develop him into the player you were expecting.

Yeah, I read that article too. He also pointed out that SEC schools pull scholarships, while Big Ten schools do not.

I'd say there's a big difference between:

a.) making a promise to a kid that he will be financially and educationally supported and then telling him to hit the bricks.
b.) allowing a kid to play in a bowl game after he broke an outdated rule.

But we could debate that, if you like. I can't believe that pulling scholarships is legal. It's the lowest of the low moves you can make.

Agree 100%. I can understand the kid not panning out as an athlete but transfer the scholarship over to an academic scholarship so that he can concentrate on his education now that he is no longer an athlete, if it would come to something like that. Pulling a kid's scholarship and depriving him of earning his collegiate education is about as low down as it gets and something I do NOT endorse as an SEC fan.

Academia didn't offer the kid the scholarship. The Athletic Department did and they are the ones paying for it and it should remain that way.

The kid's job is to follow the institution's rules and hold up his end with their academics and if the kid does that, the school has to hold up their end of the bargain. Anything less than that is frankly sad.

The SEC can talk about moral superiority the same day they can talk about scholastic superiority.

Talking about Ohio State in the context of allowing these players to play in a game they were eligible for is absurd considering the laundry list of crap the SEC does on a yearly basis.

I don't see what a few guys making a mistake and getting suspended for it has to do with the unethical recruiting tactics that the majority of SEC coaches do publically and continue to do. There's violations at every school in the country and every program has guys get suspended once in a while. What the SEC is doing is not breaking the rules, it's finding ways around the rules that most programs in the country avoid even though they could do it if they wanted to and be within the NCAA rules because it is shady and not fair to the kids that are being shoved aside b/c they aren't good enough to contribute.

Staples wasn't trying to convey any moral superiority the SEC held over the Big Ten, it was quite the opposite. The Big Ten likes to point out their moral superiority over the SEC and that was called into question when Ohio State & the NCAA let the Buckeyes players be suspended for the first five games of next season and not for the bowl game.

I won't continue this discussion any further in this thread since it takes away from its original purpose and I would appreciate it if all further discussions on the matter be held in the proper thread.

Tom Bradley to Pitt. VERY good hire. They will get a lot of Western Pa recruits. I wouldn't be surprised to see Teryl Austin coming along too.

Weird that they hired a guy they didn't even interview the first time.

Considering that, the hire sure was fast.

Tom Bradley's staff will more than likely consist of:

Ron Vanderlinden LB coach
Mike McQueary QB/WR/OC
Teryl Austin DC/secondary

Four great recruiters on that staff will bring Pitt to contend for Big East crowns year in and year out. I believe they could even be favorites before long.

Pitt fans aren't happy about it because he's a boring hire and because he's a Penn State guy. He should have been the guy way before Wanny came.

"Pitt fans"? Some. But those fans are rarely happy. Theyre the same types that wanted Roethlisberger traded. With that said...

Bradley + Austin is much better than Heywood + his staff. Maybe we'll keep 1 or 2 of our recruits hahahaha. It's too bad it took a collosal screw up for Pederson to get it right.

Sometimes the "safe" hire can be the best hire. The only other guy they interviewed this time around outside of Bradley was Sal Sunseri. Too bad Pederson is such a **** up or he would have hired Todd Graham the first time around.

Yes, I believe so, but I would have rather had Al Golden. I don't know who I would want now. Maybe Dan Mullen? Maybe Urban Meyer if he comes back?

Just perpetuate the rumors that Bradley was available because JoePa is done. Will be forced out by the University and they will hire Tony Dungee.
