Clearly any argument that excludes the possibility of a late round pick turning into a good or even great player is ludicrous.
The argument that we should not rely on a late round pick turning into a good player holds rather more water.
In any case, Meier in particular is a potential replacement for Finn, not the explosive receiver we need to add. I also don't expect the Falcons to rely on Douglas being that guy. We'll draft someone, it just depends how early...

Nothing wrong with what FalconsGuru said. 5th round picks usually don't become core players. We cut out 5th round picks in both 2008 and 2009, and our 2010 5th rounder Franks got no snaps the whole year. He didn't say that a 5th rounder can't become a good player, but you shouldn't expect too much out of him.

I mentioned DON'T NORMALLY can you read FTRWRTR. How long have you followed the draft? Players get downgraded whether health issues,to small, heavy, skills, production etc etc many reasons and skill set is part of it. Go ahead believe Kerry Meier will be our no2 receiver or play an integral part as a receiver. I'm glad your not the GM since will be looking for the answer next year at this time. For every Tom Brady 1000's of players don't make it.Being drafted in the 1st and 2nd rounds gives you a better chance of making an impact in the league but it isn't full proof.

Phew, Matt Ryan out of the running for Madden cover.
I hope Hillis gets it. Maybe the intro could have a "McDaniels" lookalike getting rid of him...

Never said that meirer will be the falcon's #2 wr, I said he can be better than jenkins. You're the one who said it wouldn't happen because Meirer was a 5th round pick and then claimed guys drafted that late don't have the same amount of talent as guys drafted earlier.

So pretty much you're saying Meier has the potential to be better than Jenkins, but couldn't be the #2 WR. Either way, we're going to draft a WR some time early, and we still have Douglas who can come back stronger than he did last year, and don't forget Weems. I think we're in a pretty good situation with WRs.

Some quotes all of you will love from our GM.

I know everyone is going to be asking the defensive end question and we’ll continue to analyze that situation going forward.

So there it is. We didn't stay at 27 and select a DE for a reason. We could have easily traded up and have gotten Robert Quinn, but TD had a plan. That plan was to get one of the top 2 WRs in this draft, and get a top DE in free agency.

Idk if even TD knew Quinn would be available at 14.

Falcons going to be going hard for Charles Johnson the UGA boy. He's going to want to come home, and we're going to want to pay him to destroy Carolina's wonder boy, AND because he'll change the face of our DLine. Watch out for Charles Johnson to the ATL when Free Agency happens.

We're definitely going to push hard for a free agent DE, that's a given.

I'm certain that if they don't already have a deal in place they have a good idea of which de they'll get. Just like arizona with bulger.

I think it could possibly change it, depending on what the new agreement details about RFAs etc, but I think it's a pretty good shot we end up with Johnson as a Free Agent, which will be expensive for sure, but I hope we can make it happen, I wanted him coming into the draft big time.

I'm just wondering which Offensive Linemen we won't re-sign. We drafted another versatile guy, makes me believe even more we'll lose at least 2 starters, and possibly 3 depending on what happens with McClure.
Svitek, Reynolds, Johnson, Hawley, Valdez. All capable starters, there is going to be a huge battle this off-season (if there is football).
If I had it my way it would look like this:
Baker----Johnson----Hawley----Valdez----Reynolds
I just love seeing so many youngsters. Saves up a lot of money to work on defense and builds new chemistry on the line.

Four new starters? No thanks. What happened to 'win now'?

4 new starters = 5 new starters cause Ryan will be out in the first week. We will not lose 4 starters this offseason, if we do, Julio won't even matter.

Obviously my post isn't very realistic. I should have cut Baker, and put Svitek as a LT.
That's why I said, if I had it my way.
