Odds are he will be released to the practice squad since he is eligible again.
edit: Outside of OLB and DE, there is arguably some super stud talent or young potential on at each spot. This is before FA starts. NE definitely has some serious questions to answer going forward about which rookies and veterans have had enough opportunities on this team.
Being PS squad eligible could be an asset to any player on the bubble, especially if the Patriots like them. At least it will keep them getting a check.

I concur. Alge was stellar as an inline blocker last year and caught everything thrown his way, save one ball, iirc. He wasn't asked to be a pass catcher b/c he's a dominant blocker at TE and we have TEs that can do that better. Smith will be PS so he can be groomed asAlge's replacement in 2012.
Other than that, I'd say ditch a safety (Merri?) to make room for Ocho!

Meriweather is definitely someone I have on the out if things shake down where a DB becomes disposable. He's terrible in coverage (bottom 5 in the NFL). He's not a great run supporter (Pat Chung, James Sanders, and every other safety on the roster is better). I really fail to understand how the coaching staff continues to start/play him.

His ability to cover ground is excellent. That's really the only thing I see regularty that is incredible. If he has any responsibility other than centerfielder, however, he's boom or bust.

QB (2): BRADY, HOYER, (MALLETT - IR, he won't be able to play because there is no time for him to get ready. It takes QB's a long time to prepare and they won't put him on the field. He can't practice on IR but he can go to meetings and film study...He won't be on the 53 man roster THIS YR)
RB (5): BJGE, WOODHEAD, VEREEN, RIDLEY, RICKY WILLIAMS (FAULK will play the SEAU role and be available in case of injury)
WR (5): BRANCH, WELKER, EDELMAN, PRICE, TATE
TE (4): GRONKOWSKI, HERNANDEZ, CRUMPLER, SMITH (They'd lose Smith if they tried to sneak him on the practice squad...they won't lose him. He is Crumpler's eventual replacement and can be mentored the whole year by Alge)
OL (9): VOLLMER, SOLDER, MANKINS, KOPEN, CONNOLLY, LEVOIR, KACZUR, WENDELL, OHRNBERGER (CANNON-PUP/IR - chemo makes you weak and he could use the year on a weight training program) (Solder won't play much if any this year. He REALLY needs the weight training program and to work on his mechanics with Dante because he is so tall. He'll be an All-Pro, but he isn't ready yet and BB doesn't put people on the field if they aren't ready.)
SP.T. (3):GOSTKOWSKI, MESKO, KATULA
DL (7): WARREN, WILFORK, STROUD, WRIGHT, PRYOR, DEADERICK, BRACE
PR (Pass Rusher) (2): BANTA-CAIN, MOORE
OLB (2): NINKOVICH, CUNNINGHAM (CARTER - PS)
ILB (4): MAYO, SPIKES, GUYTON, FLETCHER
CB (5): BODDEN, McCOURTY, DOWLING, ARRINGTON, BUTLER
S (5): CHUNG, MERIWEATHER, SANDERS, BROWN, PAGE
that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Yeah. I usually use this topic to just keep up with roster moves and whatnot, but because of the blitzkrieg of info, I've been lazy.
