I understand people like to compare players and rank them, but modern NBA players would destroy old school players. Many people won't want to hear that, but it's true. 'Old school players' are romanticized. Bill Russell for example was like 6'9 and weighed around 220lb. He'd get rag dolled by someone like Dwight Howard. Also, the players from back in the day competed against the best players from the USA. Now they compete against the best players in the world. The difference in the sheer number of players competing to play pro basketball is probably astounding.

I think your argument is dumb. You don't compare decades to other decades. You compare players to their own era. Of course modern day players are bigger and stronger. Advancements in weight training, supplements, and overall availability of food and other things have made people bigger. You dont' compare players from different era's, they are different times in basketball. Sure Dwight Howard is dominant in today's game, but if you compare he doesn't even have half of the skill Hakeem had. You then compare athleticism vs skill, there is no one better trait. There are hall of fame running backs from the 40's who wouldn't last in today's game, does that mean they are worst than an average back today? no, you compare how they did in their own era.

When we rank players from different eras, we're not thinking who would win in a one-one-one.
It's how they ranked/importance/value for their time compared to others in their time.
That's it... it's not C.Paul vs B.Cousey, first to 21, win by two, make it-take it.
It's not a hard concept to grasp.

There are hundreds of thousands of scientists that understand physics today better than Newton did three hundred years ago. If you're making a list of important scientists, however, he's in the top 5.
Everything has it's place and time; the inability to understand that underlies a fundamental misunderstanding of a lot of things.

No, people in fact do try to compare past players to modern players side-by-side. If you were comparing them based on how good they were in an era, you couldn't make a list without George Mikan. He was easily the best player of his time.
or at least the best white player, because the game was segregated during his time.

"LeBron is so good defensively that he can guard the 1-4 positions and could guard the center if he had to." They say that right as Rose schools LeBron and goes right around him. haha

What the hell is Rose doing, these are terrible shots to take. You can't iso Rose he won't win you the game, you have to run some sort of screen.

I think these playoffs have kind of shown how Rose and Durant have been annointed a bit early. Neither are top 5 players in the league yet, they still need to develop.

I'm not sure I agree with that, although Dirk and Kobe make 6.
Put Rose WITH Durant like Lebron joined D-Wade, let's see how it looks.
Rose has basically nothing as good as even Bosh, much less Wade.

I bet Chicago winning and under 179.5 and of course Rose misses the free throw with one minute left in the game that would have won it for them. :( A friend of mine bet Chicago not to lose by 6.5 and over 179.5. He would have won had Noah not fouled Lebron with 1 second left in the game.

Top 5(not neccesarily in order)
Bron
Wade
Howard
CP3
Dirk
I would put Durant and then Rose at 6 and 7

I will agree with what he said. Durant had 10 turnovers or something like that yesterday that was one of the main reasons Dallas won. Rose had 7 with a couple of them coming down the stretch that could have won them the game. Sure, he doesnt have a guy like Wade or Bosh but those were stupid mistakes that he will learn with experience. I dont know if that was a horrible coaching call or if Rose decided to iso James but that was stupid. The game on the line and he does a fade away? Rose can beat James to the hoop IMO and I would have tried that and see if he gets a foul call.

Hollinger is on fire on twitter right now:
@johnhollinger Trying to figure out which sounds best: Derrsell Westbrose? Russick Rosebrook? Dusseck Wrose? 9 minutes ago
@johnhollinger Not saying Bulls play calls were iffy, but I have Hawks fans Tweeting me wanting to know when Chicago stole their playbook. 6 minutes ago
@johnhollinger LeBron outplaying Rose isn't reason enough to question MVP vote. LeBron outplaying Rose and NOBODY BEING SURPRISED, on the other hand ... 2 minutes ago

Yeah, that's pretty much the top 5 as far as I'm concerned. If I actually put them in order I'd probably go-
1. Lebron
2. Dirk
3. Wade
4. Howard
5. CP3

I thought it was funny that the second they said that is when Rose schooled Lebron and went to the hoop for a foul. That is what the Bulls should have done at the end of the game instead of letting Rose have isolation on LeBron who is 7 inches taller.

I would prob put Howard ahead of Wade(Howards impact on defence is just too large), but other than that I agree with it.

First time I will have put Kobe outside of number 1, but these playoffs have given me reason too....as much as I hate to say that.
1. Lebron
2. D Wade
3. Kobe
4. Howard
5. CP3
6. Dirk
7. Durant
8. Rose
9. D-Will
10. Melo
