Discuss signings as they happen and or guys who're up for free agency there's already a thread here with a fantasy type predictions, but I'll keep this one and the following post for a list of who's been signed and for what when it becomes available.
Dates to watch -4th and final edit
Monday night: The NFL will release a complete list of the free agents for the 2011 season.
Tuesday: At 10 a.m., team facilities will open and trades can begin. Teams can begin signing their own drafted rookies and other undrafted free agents. They can also negotiate with other teams’ free agents — however, they can’t sign those players yet.
Wednesday-Sunday: Training camp opens for all teams. (The Patriots will hold their conditioning work on Wednesday, and open camp to the media and the public on Thursday.) The opening of training camps across the league is as follows:
•Camp opens Wednesday for Arizona, Baltimore, Dallas, Denver, Jacksonville, Patriots, Oakland, Philadelphia, San Diego and Seattle.
•Camp opens Thursday for Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Kansas City, Miami, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Tampa Bay and Washington.
•Camp opens Friday for Buffalo, Carolina, Chicago, Cleveland, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Minnesota, New York Giants, St. Louis and Tennessee.
•Camp opens Sunday for Houston and New York Jets.
Friday: Starting at 6 p.m., teams can sign other teams’ free agents — the start of full free agency.

Gantt admits the Panthers' position doesn't make much sense with Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson ready to go, but insists that they won't lose Williams "because of cash." If Williams walks to the Broncos or elsewhere, Gantt believes it will just be because he wants out of Charlotte. From a fantasy perspective, Williams' landing spot will have the most impact in all of free agency.

Darin Gannt it reporting there may be some tampering involving an unnamed Panthers player. The only thing he confirmed is it wasn't DeAngelo.
Rumor is it's atlanta and Charles Johnson.
new post lockout news
Word out of Miami is that NYG free agent RB Bradshaw has landed there today [monday], negotiations cannot begin until tomorrow [tuesday]. So don't expect to hear more till then.
Released players:
Bears
Brad Maynard (P)
Eagles
David Aikers (K) - technically not a release, his transition tag no long applies
Projected Cap room alphabetically based on the proposed CBA:
Quote:
Arizona $37.3 million under
Atlanta $13.9 million under
Baltimore $5.33 million under
Buffalo $35.9 million under
Carolina $30.6 million under
Chicago $37. million under
Cincinnati $35.9 million under
Cleveland $33.3 million under Dallas $18.9 million over
Denver $1 million under
Detroit $16.6 million under
Green Bay $62,600 under
Houston $7.6 million under Indianapolis $2.7 million over
Jacksonville $31.4 million under
Kansas City $34.3 million under
Miami $13.6 million under Minnesota $5.1 million over
New England $7.57 million under
New Orleans $11.7 million under N.Y. Giants $11.3 million over
N.Y. Jets $1.2 million over
Oakland $10 million over
Philadelphia $13 million under Pittsburgh $10 million over
San Diego $19.4 million under
San Francisco $18.9 million under
Seattle $39 million under
St. Louis $35.6 million under
Tampa Bay $59.2 million under
Tennessee $10.3 million under
Washington $10.6 million under
With all that cap space, it makes me wonder if the Bengals will be a surprise landing spot for a big name free agent or two. Maybe a big name RB and/or top O-lineman.
Not true, the figure for the Colts includes Manning's tag.
This tenders count as soon as they're placed on a player, not after they're signed. This is to stop it being used as a loophole to hide cap numbers.
Interesting thing is there is a cap floor. Tampa is going to have to almost sign another team. With their depth just about everywhere I can see them picking up one or two players for good money and extending a lot of their young players who're already producing beyond their deals.

The NFL's free agency and opening of training camps are scheduled to kick off Wednesday, July 27.
Both are contingent on players ratifying the global agreement Thursday night and recertifying by next Tuesday. Commissioner Roger Goodell and attorney Jeff Pash are proceeding as if there is an understanding on both sides. College free agency and the conditional signing of rookie draft picks are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23.
I assume Saturday - Tuesday will also be for re-signing your own FAs. Not many are expected to re-sign during that period. Most will likely test the market considering how crazy it's going to be. Wednesday is going to be fun.
See above, on the 23rd they can negotiate so it's likely the guys like Aso, Charles Johnson, Peyton Manning will be getting their balls tickled all day on the 23rd allowing their teams a full 4 days to consider whether or not they want to match or beat offers from other teams (should their players disclose details).
imo, we'll see some guys no longer available by the 27th, anyone who hasn't been signed by that day I'd assume won't be returning to their respective former teams.

Not necessarily. Some guys will simply test the market, really take visits and such seriously and then still return to their previous team. For example, there is no way in hell Santonio Holmes signs during the 3-day window but could very well end up back with the Jets after he hears offers from other teams. Same with guys like DeAngelo.

My feeling is a little conspiracy theorist but I believe a lot of guys will have been contacted one way or another already by suitors and there will have been guys in front offices working hard to get **** organised in regards to packages and offers so that once that period opens they can go guns blazing.
DeAngelo probably won't leave, see my post in the news, Jerry Richardson has openly been telling everyone fans, reporters everyone that the Panthers are going to be really aggressive.
Santonio is a merc he'll go to the highest bidder imo.

Oakland seriously can't afford to resign Aso. They're already way over the cap and only have a few big contracts that could be renegotiated to lower thier total. I think they realised their fate and that's why they gave big money to Routt.
Here's a really interesting interview done with sports agent Ron Del Duca. He discusses some things that I hadn't even thought about regarding this upcoming Free Agency.
Here's a few highlights...
* All the agents have technically been decertified as well.
* Alot of puffery.
* Anybody can represent anyone at any price.
* There are no rules and regulations.
* People could potentially give "value" to players for being represented by them.
* There's already been alot of movement between agents and players.

Just because the Panthers are going to go hard after him doesn't mean he has to sign with you guys. It's not like it's the Panthers decision here. Somebody else is going to offer just as much as Carolina if not more.

That is good to bad their are no good safeties out there.
Eric Weddle begs to differ! There are some other quality options as well such as Quintin Mikell and Dawan Landry. Michael Huff, Danieal Manning, and Donte Whitner are on the next level down.
