Don't ignore my last point. Look at every season, other than the S4 finale they have not pushed the envelope one time. It's always back to the status quo.

Meh...the season finales work just fine. Certain storylines had to end in the way they did. Dexter certainly follows a forumla, but the finales always receive too much hate. I really didnt see a problem with them. Especially season one's. That was a rather emotional encounter and Hall does some of his best work. Season 2's wraps everything up in a nice little bow. As painful as it was to see.

I am perfectly okay with the Season 1 finale. It is everything after that I just cannot stand. The Season 2 finale took the absolute easiest way out, the season 3 finale wrapped up nice and clean, the season 4 finale was done the right way to a degree, and the season 5 finale was just.........don't get me started.
How else could you end season 2? haha. It had to happen. And it's perfect for Dexter himself, for obvious reasons. The others were just fine, imo. But remember, still havent seen 5 yet.
Have him kill Doakes and actually make his morality clouded, as opposed to just a hero. He's not supposed to be a ******* hero. The decision to have Lila kill him was an absolute and total cop-out, and way too clean.

Meh. That's the ending you wanted? Doakes may have done a lot of bad ****. But he was still a rather just person. He wasnt a bad guy...and Dexter isn't void of conscious. "Dont get caught" was rule #1 of the code, but it still conflicted with the actual killing of a somone such as Doakes. And Dexter was battling with a lot of things, concerning Harry in the first place. So the fact that morality came into play shouldnt be surprising. And while Dexter is not supposed to be a traditional hero, he is an anti-hero type. His kills are morally justified in his mind. This kill was different. Plus, from a writer's standpoint...demonizing Dexter with a Doakes kill, would be a horrible decision. He's a monster...but he's a likable monster. With out the morality and surprise emotions that creep up from time to time, he loses all humanity. And you risk alienating or confusing your audience, when he loses some of that relatability or the hint of a conscious that he actually possesses. The ending they chose was just fine. And it got him completely off the hook. Aside from La Guerta's suspicions, everything was tied up in neat bow, for Dexter. It worked well, with all the evidence neatly pointing to Doakes. I just didnt love the ending for a different reason...and that was the end of Doakes run on the show. He was a fantastic character. But really, I fail to see the hate here.

He killed two innocents in later seasons, but they ignore that all the time. And that was the entire point of the season, was to show that he was still a monster and not someone who should be considered some sort of anti-hero. Yes, he is killing guilty people but he is doing so in such a manner that is disgusting and wrong. I hate constantly doing this, but The Shield had Vic kill a rather just cop in the opening episode, and thus proved it wasn't afraid to take risks. Dexter is. And wrapping up things in a neat bow is just stupid, because it shows that the writers can't get themselves out of this one.
Man this forum is just so sheeplike at times. Everyone used to love Dexter on here, then a few people come in and say it's overrated and suddenly everyone thought it was never that great. I wasn't a fan of season 5 but before that it was a great show.
Where was the hate for season 2 and 3 when they were actually going on?
Add 6 Feet Under to the list of shows I never got into that this board loves. I just really really didn't like it. Slow and melodramatic. I didn't give it much of a chance and I doubt I ever will.

I love Season 2 outside of the finale, and no one liked Season 3 outside of Jimmy Smits truthfully. I turned on after the season 5 finale because it made me realize the show will never ever grow a set of balls and actually write complicated material. They did in season 2, and have abandoned it ever since.
I loved the **** out of Dexter the first time I went through it (discluding season 5, which I had already heard sucked dick). But after that I started watching "real" television and realized how goofy it is and how formulaic each season of it was..
I've just started watching Misfits. What kind of mom is such a ***** that she picks some guy she's dating over her kid? I'd put up with his ******** because I find that to be a huge dick move.
I was fine with Dexter Season 5. Not every season finale should make you **** your pants. They always wrap up the Dexter seasons in case there isn't another one, and I like that.
The Season 6 trailer is out and it looks good, obviously.
The ending to s5 was horrendous. Ugh. The thing I hate the most about the entire thing is:
When La Guerta toasts Deb and is like To Deb, who solved the case!.. except THE CASE WAS NEVER SOLVED. What ****** writing. The show used to be must watch for me, but now I'm not sure if I'll watch s6. Ugh.
