Posey is out for the season....

I heard he's possibly done at Catcher as well.

I'm rosterbaiting between the 49ers discussion and the Giants discussion.

Two #SFGiants prospects that scouts like and could be part of Beltran offer: OF Francisco Peguero, 2B Charlie Culberson. #tradedeadline #MLB
Would love to get this trade wrapped up before the end of the deadline.

Beltran was 0-4 in his debut.

Giants won the series against the Phillies 2-1 though.

Am i the only one that thinks catcher is a glaring need? Whiteside and Stewart are ok backups but we need an experienced vet catcher to fill the void until Posey gets back. I was thinking either Pudge from the Nats or Hernandez from the Reds.

Agreed. The Nats offered Pudge the day Posey went down. The reason the Giants initially didn't go after another catcher is that the pitching staff has chemistry with Whiteside/Stewart. I'm not so sure of it as they have had a number of passed balls, errors, etc. Neither of these guys have contributed much offensively and they don't throw a high percentage of runners out. It's nothing against them; they are just back-up kind of talents and the Giants are in it to win it. They are the weakest links on a pretty bad offense = biggest ares for improvement.

A Catcher and a Shortstop are still areas of need. Rumor yesterday has the Giants targeting Furcal, with an August waiver deal possible happening as he should clear due to his salary. Doubt the Dodgers would trade him over before then very easily. However, I'm sure Ned Colletti owes Sabean one. :)

I'm not too sure about this Cabrera for Thomas Neal deal that went down last night. I wanted the Giants to pick up a SS but Cabrera's numbers are almost the same as Tejada's and he's only a year younger, with a little better range. Neal has rare speed that this Giants team doesn't have much of. He had a chance to be their starting LF next year. I like this deal much less initially then the Keppinger and Beltran deals. Why does Sabean love over-the-hill shortstops so much?

A really strange trade for sure...Maybe Sabes wanted to get a guy with some playoff experience?

Trade deadline has passed and no catcher. I don't know how we can expect to get deep into the playoffs with Whiteside calling games.

Oh ya and Zito is done. Three straight miserable starts. Let's get Sanchez back in there.

I can't stand seeing Zito in there. It's basically batting practice for every team he pitches against.

Yeah, Zito should be going to the 'pen. They had already labeled yesterday his 'make or break' start, placing Sanchez in the rotation in his place. Sanchez is very hit and miss, but he's better than Zito overall.

They may still get a C off of waivers but I wouldn't bank on it unless there's an injury. Sabean noted that Boche was very protective over Whiteside and Stewart due to their chemistry with the pitching staff. I don't really see it, but if Boche does, that's good for me.

They still need a leadoff hitter. That's a likely target for waivers in August.

Keppinger got hurt? F***! What a nightmare of injuries this season. All they need to do is get healthy (as possible) and in the NL West lead. The playoffs will take care of themselves as the Giants have a reliable 4 man rotation to mow people down.

Nate the Great broke his foot, which is really significant as he has been one of the most consistent hitters.

J Sanchez sprained his ankle in the 3rd today, then the Giants go on to lose in the 11th.

This team is cursed right now.

They're hanging their heads and just taking it. Horrible to watch. I still have faith in these guys but they're using phrases like "rock bottom" to describe a second place team who currently has the EXACT same record as last year at this point. They need to get the lead out, remember they are the Champs, and make a September run. What do they have to lose?

If this continues, it's time to clean the house of all these veteran "hitters" Rowand, DeRosa, Burrell, Tejada, Cabrera, Ross, and possibly Torres, who is now looking like a one year wonder. Huff better have one of his bouce-back years next season (like last year). He seems to alternate good and bad years statistically, but I'd much rather put his salary next year next toward signing Prince Fielder.

Keppinger has been great but Freddy is signed through next year, and assuming his shoulder does recover, he'll play 2nd.

Beltran is going to get some blame for not "igniting" the team but I think he passes the eye test. I just don't like the future prospects of re-signing him as he's getting older and plays RF with Nate emerging as an option there. I know he would have cost more, but I would have much rather seen them sign an emerging star in Hunter Pence, who is getting into his prime, plays RF, doesn't make a ton, and who's contract continues for the next couple of seasons. I like Beltran but there was so much more value with dealing for Pence...and now he's on the ******* Phillies. Bleh.

That didn't take long:

Bye bye Rowand and Tejada. Burrell called back up to the team...for now.

About time Rowand and Tejada were cut. They should have been cut a month ago, but better late then never. This shows to the rest of the lineup that your job isn't safe just because you have veteran status.

Oh yeah, and Carlos Beltran. What a dud he's been here. The Giants need him producing in the worst way if they wanna get back in the race. I don't buy the Diamondbacks as contenders at all, they should hit a slump pretty soon.

One more thing, please play the young guys!!!!!!

Hawkeye, you should make down at Chase Field for the last series the Giants are in town this season in late Sept. I've been to at least one game in each of the series this year and will be at one or two of those games as well. Lots of Giants fans will be there...guaranteed.

Their is actually a decent chance i'll be attending one of those games. Just a matter of of getting a ticket. You're right, i've met a ton of Giants fans up in here in N Arizona.
Home away from home! LOL. So many of their players have connections and live and/or train here in the offseason. They have a strong fan base here because before there were the D-Backs, the Giants were the only show in town, with Spring Training making a lot local fans. That, combined with the mass exodus of Nor Cal people moving to the Desert in recent years.

Grady Sizemore a Free Agent:

IMO, he's definitely worth a shot as a leadoff batter and speedy CF are two HUGE needs this offseason for the Giants.

Giants get Melky Cabrera to play CF, hit leadoff for avg and power by trading Jonathon Sanchez to the Royals:

I like the value they got for Sanchez but I am concerned about left handed starting pitching. This essentially guarantees Zito will return and be the #5 SP next year.

That is my biggest concern as well. Putting a lot of faith into Volgy and Zeets with no true rotation depth after that. I am sure Sabs is going to have a few reclamation projects in camp.

Yeah, they'll have Surkamp on call if needed and will likely add another veteran arm to spring training like they did with Suppan last year. He might have played a larger role of Volgy hadn't started tearing it up.

Happy to see we got some good value for J Sanchez. Excited to see what other bats we add in the next few weeks.
