Well depends on how you determine what your ramifications for a top 5 are. If it's commercially then it's always gonna be jay, kanye, wayne, eminem then insert whoever is popular at 5 (Ross/Drake). Rapping wise I'm not a fan of new Eminem, Wayne is garbage, Kanye is still Kanye but not like his 1st few albums & Jay-Z is on his last leg.

Hi ccb ;)
Top 5?
1. Zeroh: FKIT.
2.Kanye: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is far better than any mainstream rap released in recent memory.
3.Shabazz Palaces: “The nights are getting stronger/ And the days are getting longer/ The building’s getting bigger/ Outside is getting smaller/ The lies are getting truer/ And the truth is getting brighter/ Things are looking blacker/ But black is looking whiter.”
4-5.Tyler/Big Krit/Kendrick Lamar "The Spiteful Chant"/Drake/The Roots/TurquoiseJeepMusic

Royce is defiantly up there for me as well, and Pusha-T, can't believe I didn't list them. Fashawn is ill too.

I personally am on Pmac right now. Dude's got flow. I always am on Atmosphere, Lupe, and Macklemore. The rest are just kind of fads for me.

I love Oddisee more-so as a producer than an MC but he's nice either way.

His first 3 albums were all phenomenal. College Dropout is one of my all time favorite albums of any genre.

don't get me wrong, i appreciate dropout/late reg/graduation/mbdtf a lot and i'm not going to take anything away from him as a producer or musical artist. but i can name 20 better rappers off the top of my head so to call him the "GOAT" among rappers is just silly to me.

I'll give this a shot.
1. Tupac
2. Biggie
3. Nas
4. Jay
5. Rakim
6. Run DMC
7. Ice Cube
8. Em
9. Wu Tang (this could easily be 4 names btw)
10. Tribe Called Quest
11. De La Soul
12. Big Daddy Kane
13. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5
14. Big Pun
15. Kurtis Blow
16. Mos Def
17. Talib Kweli
18. Lauryn Hill
19. KRS
20. Scarface
21. Big L
Obviously this is a matter of opinion, but purely as a rapper Kanye's status as an elite is very debatable.

You're really overrating some of the old guys. Run DMC? For real?

Lol just 5 to 7....remember he said based on a pure RAPPING standpoint. I'd easily take Jay, Nas, Pac, Big, Pun, Big L, KRS, Rakim, Scarface, Eminem, Lupe, Talib, Andre 3000, AZ, Skyzoo & plenty more all time over Kanye. Kanye is great though but let's not overrate him.

26. Black Thought
27. Gza
28. Pharoahe Monch
29. Guru
30. The Lox
31. Mobb Deep
32. Xzibit
I could go on, but all of these guys are head and shoulders better MCs than Kanye.
Kanye puts out great music, he's an excellent producer and you'd have a better argument if you wanted to say he was the GOAT as a producer. But as a rapper, he's average at best.
