Drafting in those rounds isnt the easiest...but we havent been hitting on anyone. It's becoming a problem. It's nice to see us having success with UDFA (Ratliff was a 7th round pick, actually), but the fact that these guys are looking better than our own draft picks, says something about our drafting in the first place. And I'm talking more so recently, than back with Romo and Miles. A lot of teams make their money and create the foundation of their team in the mid-late rounds...we on the other hand, have been missing again and again.

We have been having trouble drafting corners and safeties in particular. And I dont have much confidence in Mccray or Church back there. They're both great ST players, but neither guy can cover.

AOA has cleared waivers and will be on the PS. He may never amount to anything, but I'm glad he's still around. He could use the practice time. I still wouldnt be surprised to hear him moving to corner one day.

Also...

Fullback Chris Gronkowski has been claimed by Indianapolis, safety Andrew Sendejo has been claimed by the New York Jets and cornerback Josh Thomas out of Cedar Hill has been claimed by Carolina.

Sandejo to the jets... I wonder if its just a one week thing to get all the info they can about us.... But the jets do like there unathletic white safeties LOL.

Also, when a player gets claimed off waivers... do they just get the same contract they signed with the original team and their new team pays it? I was always curious.

Interesting article over on Raf's site, about the correlation between team drafting, having an elite qb, and overall team success. He mentions how Dallas has kept twice as many players from their 2004-2008 drafts (core starters) than the Colts or Patriots, yet these two teams have had more overall success due to the impact of their qbs (and their better coaching and GM decision making I'd also argue).

It was a joke bro, relax.

As for the post above^^ that is pretty interesting. Hopefully that changes with garrett now running the show. I really think he can be the next bellichick.

I'm much more concerned with our recent string of misses, more so than anything that dates back to 2004.

The Pats are a wonderfully run organization...they always seem to make the right moves. And Peyton, yeah...when healthy, he can carry whoever he plays with.

JJ isnt drafting without scout and coach insight...we just keep missing in these mid-late rounds. And for most teams, bad drafting in these rounds...could really catch up to you and hurt the ogranization in the long run.

Well, if your going by the 5th round and later, you are right. Atleast Nagy looks like a find. The thing I love though is that we are now cutting veterans who are only on reputation and actually playing the better guys. Its what new england, pittsburgh, Green bay, etc. do and now we are too. Of course the media thinks were rebuilding but thats fine, who cares what they think.

I'm talking 2009 and 2010.

Jason Williams (3rd), Robert Brewster (3rd), Brandon Williams (4th), Deangelo Williams (5th), Michael Hamlin (5th), Stephen Hodge (6th), AOA (4th), Jamar Wall (6th).

Obviously, you're not hitting on everyone, but we had two really bad drafts in those upper mid-late rounds the last two years. It can just become very problematic, because like I said...these are the guys that normally form the foundation of your team in the long run. Look how thin our depth is right now and this is a big reason why. It's obviously time to invest some higher picks in the secondary, because we cant draft late round DBs for crap, as of late. You'd just hope for more success.

And oh...Teddy Williams to the PS. Eww. This guy is not an NFL player.

What do you think of bruce carter? If he can come in mid-season and be a coverage beast, that would add a whole new dimension to this defense.

I wouldnt count on him making any major impact this season. Now next year could be a different story. But the expectations for this season shouldnt be too high. I love the long term potential, assuming he heals completely.

I'm surprised you guys didn't give Merriweather a peak. A 1 year contract couldn't hurt.

Love Love LOVE our PS. Teddy looked a lot better at CB than he did at WR hopefully they put him back there. AoA needs more time to adjust or perhaps a switch back to his natural position (CB). Holmes is a small school athletic freak (6'5" 4.5 or high 4.4 speed). Thankfully we snuck three of our UDFAs onto the PS. Really think we screwed the pooch by releasing Thomas.

Cowboys 2011 Practice Squad Signings:

Teddy Williams WR/CB (confirmed by his agent)
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah S (per Tim McMahon)
Andre Holmes WR(per Nick Eatman tweet)
Mario Butler CB (He tweets back to a question "Whats the word wit u man" with the simple abbreviation "PS", Confimed by MacMahon)
Shaun Chapas, FB and Orie Lemon, LB (per report by Nick Eatman)

Lemon made a lot of plays this preseason. He could have made the team, he's a nice guy to keep around.

Teddy aint much of a ball player, guy just looks awkward out there.

I wonder where Manny Johnson goes from here? He showed a lot of improvement.

And it really sucks about Radway...they could just be saying it now. But it sounded like he was making the team. He was impressive in camp/preseason. A lot of fans seem to think he'll come back strong...but I'd say it's much more likely that he's done, before he even got going. He's a speed guy, who now has a giant rod in his leg.

I wouldn't say that about Radway. It's 2011, not 1960. Also, don't forget about Mike Wocik. I know he's the strength coach and not a trainer, but he'll make sure that leg is fine. Doesn't Dez have metal in his leg after his broken ankle last year? Radway will be ok. Hopefully he uses this offseason to add 25 pounds of muscle. Hes listed at 193. If he can get to 220 while developing reciever skills, count another UDFA we hit on. It's just broken bones, he'll be ok.

Breaking a leg the way he did, could be pretty devastating to a speed guy. He's an unestablished speed receiver, who now has a big ole titanium rod holding his leg together. And Radway will never be 220 man, that's just a tad outlandish. He def. needs to get stronger, though...if he does make a come back. He's very slight of frame, he was having some trouble filling out that jersey. Reminded me of the 90s, when guys were playing with those giant jerseys.

I would be surprised if this ends up a good story in the end. But I'm rooting for him. You always hear "full recovery", but a lot of these guys come back a shell of their former selves. It just really sucks, because he was performing well enough to make the team.

Chad Jackson... wow, I forgot about him. I remember i wanted him on the cowboys after his ridiculous combine. But those florida recievers just seem to never work out (excluding percy harvin.)

we released Sam Young, no surprise there...

What do you guys think our chances are week 1? I think we'll lose 20-13. Can't expect this young Oline to fare to well against Rex and company.

Honestly I expect the Jets to be overly aggressive and give up a few big plays. My eyes are on whether or not our defense will make pedestrian QBs look like Pro-bowlers again this year. Expecting screens, counters, and draws to give Romo more time to look down-field. Cowboys win 24-17.

The Jets are very aggresive, but their pass rush hasnt been the greatest. That said, I still dont expect to win this first game. I bet Dez will have a sexy game, at least.

Their offense doesnt scare me at all, but who knows what our defense will look like in the early get go? I'm excited.

And yeah, screens may be a big problem for the Jets, given that aggressiveness.

Austin will have a much better season than Dez if Rom stays healthy. Including this weekend. Romo's numbers to Austin are Montana/Jerry Rice-ish. 65%+ Completion rate and over 13 YPC. Dez will struggle (thru no fault of his own) with those numbers plus Witten in the mix.

But the Jets are not that good. Book it. They will have some issue this year. I think Cowboys can win this one 24-20.

Point is 1 of 10 should hit, not 0.

Since Parcells left the Boys get nothing after Rounds 4 and even 2-4 is shaky.

And funny enough, I blame the Coaches and GM for that b/c we are not developing them. Whereas it is likely not the Scouting Dept.

You guys need your other offensive weapons to step up if Revis shuts down Dez. Other guys have to come up and help all the while Romo avoiding blitz after blitz.

Interesting game. Traditional thinking would suggest I want you guys to lose, but I hate Ryan and the Jets and their fans, so I am on the fence on this game.
