Chastin West was signed off the practice squad by the Jaguars. It was expected that a team would end up getting him. Well deserved for him

Nick Collins out for the season due to neck injury.
Really hope that isn't in the career category.

****. Obviously, the most important thing is Collins' personal future, but this is a huge problem for the Packers defense. Peprah was pretty good at filling in for Burnett, but can he fill in for Collins? Can Burnett shift over to fill in for him?

McCarthy said it was "too early to tell" if Collins injury is career threatening. Anyone else concerned that the only word out of his mouth wasn't "No."?

Well, Peprah filled in fine when Burnett went down. I'd assume Burnett shifts to FS...and hopefully he can improve as the season goes on. I do NOT want Woodson shifting to safety, because it would mean that Bush would be on the field a lot.
More importantly, hopefully Nick can return to football next year. Do not want to see a player of his caliber have his career cut short

I am. Everything seemed fine after tests the other day and what not, and now suddenly he's immediately declared out for the year. There has to be something serious going on
Packers don't have a good track record when it comes to neck injuries, either(Gary Berry, Tim Lewis, Sterling Sharpe, Terrence Murphy). If his career is over...what a huge blow. He was going to be a staple of the defense for the next 5-6 years most likely.

Yes, especially considering yesterday they said he'd be fine. Now he is out for the season and it is "too early to tell". With their history of understating injuries, I'm very concerned.

Gonna need Burnett to grow up fast and improve as the year goes on. He compares favorably to Nick as far as athleticism goes, but obviously Nick has proven it at this level for years.
Nick is easily one of the top 5-6 most valuable players on the team. This injury hurts more than any of the ones they suffered last year

I don't care if Collins ever plays football again, just hope for a full recovery for him.

Out for the year.... unbelievable. I really hope this isnt the end of Nick Collins. Charlie Peprah is no Nick Collins but im confident he can hold it down. He basically played all of last year and his play was a nice surprise. I would be alot more worried if it was Woodson/Williams/Matthews and even Raji. Nick is one hell of a player and will be missed... but if we lost one of those 4 we would be totally ****ed IMO.

Here's the only clear update we have on what the injury may be
Quote:
|
Good news for Collins, though, is that he does not have stenosis, according to Herman. Stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal column, and players who have it and sustain neck injuries often have to retire.
|
Disc problem suspected for Collins
No stenosis is good, as that would have definitely been a clear cut career ender.
more from Collins agent
Quote:
|
Nick Collins' agent, Alan Herman, said Collins will see spine specialist at Hospital For Special Surgery in New York City later this week.
|
Quote:
|
More from Alan Herman on Collins' injury: "We understand there was some disc involvement but we don’t know what extent. "
|
Hopefully they get good news regarding "to what extent" the disc issue is

Exactly. This is bullschit. I think LeRoy Butler had to retire due to a neck thing as well.
I feel awful for Nick.
I like Peprah and he filled in great last year. But it was for Bigby or Burnett. WITH COLLINS.
Replacing Collins is impossible.
He's so important to us. So underrated.
He was the most underrated player on our team.
I talked to some people today, Viking fan even, who barely knew who Collins was.
Thought he was a ****ing linebacker. I said the guy returned a *****pass for a TD in the Super Bowl for God's sake!
He made Pro Bowls, but because he's a classy guy, no dreadlocks, not on the Steelers or Patriots or Ravens or another East Coast team, or Dallas Cowboys, he gets no pub like he's earned.
He is our Polamalu or Ed Reed, and we all have seen how badly their defenses dropped off without those guys. Same with the Colts defense when they had a healthy Bob Sanders. It was good. Since he always got hurt, their defense sucked.
Perhaps Woodson can play more of that role, and they can have Peprah do more blitzing. He's strong as bull.

Sucks to lose Chastin. Good for him.
But now he's going to a horseschit passing offense, and might be catching passes from Luke McNown or else Blaine Gabbert.
He's going to miss Rodgers so badly soon.

That's not ironic. Maybe a little coincidental, but certainly not ironic.

This week will be perhaps the first time ever I have rooted for the Vikings to beat the Lions.

if it happens it happens, though.
