Come on guys this rule is there for a reason. You can't have hard hits anymore because someone might get hurt. Having a rule against hurting other people's feelings is only the next logical step in the pussification of America.

This is probably the worst penalty I've ever seen. #1, all he did was open up his arms. #2, the kid is having fun, why is college football taking that away???

I don't think even think he knows how to react, he probably never imagined he would score from that distance to begin with.

I will say, the intention behind the rule is a good one. With how ridiculous sports and society have become, I think attempting to preserve some sort of respect for the game is a good thing. However, I'm not sure how it can be done without leaving it up to a judgement call by how the refs are feeling that day.

With that said, the punter is a dumbass. It was blatantly obvious what he was doing. He turned his body sideways towards other players or the opposite sideline, and spread his arms. If you have ever watched football, you've seen that done many times. He was celebrating.

Regardless if the rule makes sense or not, it's a rule. The kid should know that, and chose to do any sort of action that could be construed as a celebration. It's his own fault. Further, people need to stop blaming the refs for calling this. They are following the rule to a T. Blame the NCAA for putting a dumb rule in place, not the guys doing what they're told.

Bringing the touchdown back make sense. With every other penalty, if it occurs during the play, it is a spot foul. So it made no sense that if you taunted before the touchdown, it was still a touchdown.

But the whole taunting rule is dumb. These aren't elementary school children. They are 18-25 year old young men. If you can't take a little taunting, go be an accountant or something. I think players should be able to celebrate however they want as long as it isn't obscene and doesn't delay the game.

The taunting rule is idiotic. It's absolutely ******* idiotic. The NCAA isn't supposed to correct societal issues of kids acting like morons.

I can't believe it was called back. Shameful. Some paid off ref is going to cost someone the game sooner than later with this ********.

It was called back because he celebrated. It was the correct call. It's because of an idiotic rule, but it was correct none the less.

People really need to stop saying it was a bad or incorrect call (in general), because it wasn't.

Agreed. You want to say the rule is bad, go for it. Saying the refs were wrong is incorrect though.

I, for one, love everything about this. A guy lost his dream touchdown because of poor sportsmanship. A punter had the nerve to taunt the opposing team. Les Miles lost his mind when it's his responsibility to make sure all of his players know the consequences of this rule. People getting butthurt over it. Blaming the refs for only enforcing a rule.

You know what would suck? If the punter had run for the TD, and another LSU was called for the taunting which erased the dream score (like what happened to USC and is why the Pac 12 changed the final score). But no. It was the scoring player who did it, so I don't feel sorry for him. So what if he's a punter and probably won't score a TD for the rest of his career? Like jrdrylie said, he's an 18-25 year old man. He should either know better, or accept the penalty like an adult.

Moreover, if the refs were correct to the letter of the law, then there would be multiple penalties on every play.

Ok, you want to say refs don't alway call holding? You are absolutely correct. If they were to call every single hold, would it be ridiculous? Probably, but it would also be correct.

But what you're saying is that since they don't call 100% of every single illegal action, they should ignore a blatantly obvious one just because the rule is dumb? I seriously doubt that refs see every single hold, and choose to ignore just some of them and call others.

There's no way they can ignore it when it was that blatant. At least with holding, it happens in the trenches and there's hands everywhere, while you can't expect 1 or even 2 refs to see every single action that 5-6 guys do in that space. This was a guy, with no one within 10-15 yards, taunting. It's an easy call.

And I agree, it is ruining the fun. But it is what it is for this season. Don't go out of your way to taunt when you know it's against the rules.

It's like if a cop pulls you over for doing 70 in a 65 on the highway, when there are cars flying by at 100. Does it seem dumb that he pulls you over instead of them? Absolutely. Were you wrong/breaking the law, and is he justified in pulling you over? Absolutely.

There are thousands of laws that cops willingly ignore because they are stupid. Refs should do the same.

Btw I do think the kid is a jackass and I hate that crap. But the rule is unevenly enforced and entirely too onerous for an infraction. Ignore it the rest of the season IMO.

It does suck, and it does often ruin the fun. There are sometimes when it obviously should be considered an infraction (before this rule was in place), and this is one of them.

However, the anger should lie with the NCAA and to a smaller extent the punter for being a dumbass. We shouldn't crucify refs for getting a call right, when they already get so much **** for blowing much less controversial calls.

I can't believe they let a rule like this even pass, let alone get drawn up. A penalty on the kickoff is enough, but taking a TD away? They are really going to put that much power in the zebra's hands to change the outcome of a game on a judgement call. That makes sense?


I can't wait for this to happen in a bigger moment on a huge scale so it can all go to hell. They are trying to take emotion out of the game and to make matters worse letting officials be the judge. What happens when a guy celebrates more then this on a game clinching TD, is the ref not going to want to make the call because the game is on the line, or do you screw up the results of the actual game as it happened because one guy was 'too happy'?
