Default Is that Pac-12 to blame for all of this?

Is the pac-12 the reason there seems to be this whole conference realignment thing?

I'm a huge pac-12 homer but I think they started this whole thing with the whole pac-16 talk, and then the instability of the big 12.

I mean Missouri in the SEC?

Houston & Boise State in the Big East?

This is ridiculous for the fans. How do they expect fans to travel across country every year?

The least they can do is do away with their conference names so they're at least not lying to their name sake.

What is causing this is not the Pac-12 alone.

Its a combination of 2 things, Maxing out television markets and making sure that you do not get left out of major bowl/championship chances.

Like for the SEC there is the huge Texas market which will bring in more recruits and better ratings there in Texas. The conerences are trying to expand into areas and basically its a grab for media market shares.

Also teams like TCU, Houston, Boise State and Utah among others are wanting in and this is their only option so they are doing all they can to get into one of these power conferences.

The way college football is is gonna kill itself its destroying rivalries for the sake of more money and control. This will come back to bite the NCAA on the ass and dilute the product and will hurt ratings in the long run.

I blame Texas and ESPN for starting the Longhorn Network.

Truth.

The Big 12 already had Texas doing whatever it wanted. The other schools weren't happy with that and they wanted out. Colorado, Nebraska and A&M left.

Now Missouri wants out because it feels like the conference is going down eventually and its smarter to go somewhere stable now, rather than waiting for the eventual conference re-shuffling.

The fact that the Pac 10 wanted to expand probably only accelerated what was already inevitable.

Yeah, it's this. Not sure what the Pac-12 would have to do with it since the Big12, Big10 and SEC were all already at 12 teams.

ESPN is to blame for 99% of it. A few days ago, Mark May, Lou Holtz, and Chris Fowler were discussing who was to blame. The first words out of my mouth while watching were "Look in the ******* mirror."

Money.

That's what it's all about. I closed down my store last night, waiting on the cleaning crew to finish up so I could lock up, and I started reading an article in Sports Illustrated talking about Georgia State coach Bill Curry. It honored Curry's ability as a teacher, making note of his graduation rates and his guidance to help young men in their lives off the field. Curry basically says that his teachings when compared to modern-day NCAA (which is all about wins and money and less about student-athletes), is like a "peashooter against a battleship".

It's a shame, but money is now beginning to sink into college football more than ever.

I believe that the Pac-10 expansion, plus Boise State's move to the MWC, began this domino effect. The Longhorn Network brought more money into Texas which begins the Big 12 rift. From there, Colorado leaves in the Pac-10 expansion and Nebraska, who has many good rivalries in the Big 12, left for the Big 10. Then, Texas A&M wants to join the SEC (which is fine with me since TAMU actually has ties to other SEC schools, see Ark.). Now Missouri seems inevitable for the 14th SEC school, and since the Col-Neb expansion, they have been itching to leave.

Now, all the other conferences have to build their conferences to compete with the super conferences. The one I'm most interested in at the moment is this CUSA-MWC merger.

if anything this would be the Big XII's fault, they nearly pissed off every team in their league besides Texas. OU, OSU & Colorado wanting to go pac-12, nebraska/mizzou wanting to go Big 10 & tamu going SEC

I completely agree that money via TV is pushing realignment but the real effects will both positive and negative.
On the positive side is the fact that larger conferences will require more inter conference play reducing the # of ridiculous match ups at the beginning of the season when conference teams play nobodies to pad their win totals.
On the negative side is the fact that teams will travel far greater distances to play a lot of games putting even more pressure on players to do their studies and maintain their grades. Worse yet, more tougher games will lead to more injuries of a serious nature.
Finally, you have to ask yourself if you are one of the teams joining a new conference, will the Texas', the Oklahoma's' and the others be the powers they once were. There will be far more completion and likely less overall success in their new conferences, ask Arkansas, and Miami. Pittsburgh and Syracuse may make a lot more money but what are their chances of ever winning a conference championship again. The SEC and the Pac 12/14 won't be easy picking for their new teams either and it may be years before they win a whole lot. Can you imagine if the BCS doesn't change its policy of only 2 teams from a conference getting an invite to a BCS Bowl game.
Of course with even more money rolling in, the demand that players be paid may grow even stronger or the cheating will increase.
