The Royals were still a bottom 8 team in MLB.

For 2012? Nope. Couple pitchers away from taking the AL Central (and probably not letting go for awhile).

You guys think Pujols is more likely or least likely to stay in St. Louis if they win the WS?

More likely. One, there will be more fan pressure to keep him. Two, the Cards revenue will go up and give them more leeway to increase payroll and keep him.

You are way too generous with KC teams.

I agree the revenue of a WS win pays for Pujols, talk about a fairy tale set up. I think the Rangers take this but won't be surprised either way. Good series.

You mean a couple elite pitchers?
The Royals don't have a single pitcher that's better than a #4 starter. That's a problem.

I wonder how much WS revenue really factors into team spending.
I guess it probably differs for each team. My guess is that I think teams maintain their same philosophy on what got them there. If they spent to get there, then they'll probably spend more to stay there. If they built it from ground up, developing talent under an affordable payroll, they probably stick with that too.
That's why I think the Rangers will let Wilson walk if he gets a contract that is astronomical even though they have made it to 2 straight WS.

I agree. The revenue from one World Series trip will hardly make a difference over the course of a huge multi year deal that Pujols will get. They're guaranteed 7 sellouts even if they get swept. I wonder how much money that equates to.

Adam Wainwright is going to be a FA too. Will the Cards pony up the cash to keep both?

Paulino pitched pretty well when he became a Royal, Odorizzi is going to be ready soon, and Montgomery could easily break out this year in the minors. They do need to sign someone (ENTER YU DARVISH SWEEPSTAKES), but they could still win the Central.

He has a team option, so he may or may not be a free agent.

Maybe he legitimately found a groove, I think it's possible. If not, they have other options and their offense isn't going to be a problem.

Did you just suggest Felipe Paulino be a reason the Royals win the division?
I don't give a **** about guys who haven't even cracked the majors yet. Royals have no shot.

The Cards will pick up his option. They are going to see what they got, think of how that squad would have been with him this year. When healthy he is the ace of that staff.

Their offense isn't going to be problem? It is if it has to make up for the pitching.

They have the pieces for an above average offense, and their defense should be above average as well. Combine that with a pretty good bullpen, and they just need to shore up the rotation...
