Default Week 7, Packers @ Vikings

The Christian Ponda Era begins

6-0 PACKERS 1-5 VIKINGS

From the loud Metrodome, the Humptydump

Vegas has the Packers opening as an enormous 8 1/2 point favorite.
Even back to the early 90's when we were good>great and always favored there, we often lost to those guys. That game is always the Vikings Super Bowl.
Last year was an exception as the Vikings were on life-support, and playing to get their coach fired.

Quote:
GREEN BAY HEADS TO MINNESOTA TO FACE VIKINGS

The Packers go on the road to face the division-rival Minnesota Vikings this Sunday in the 100th regular-season meeting between the teams.
Including playoffs, the Packers have won 12 straight games, which is tied for the longest winning streak in team history (1961-62).
Green Bay has won eight straight regular-season games, the second eight-game winning streak of Head Coach Mike McCarthy’s tenure (2006-07).
The Packers are off to a 6-0 start for the first time since 1965 and only the seventh time in franchise history.
The six previous 6-0 starts in team history (1929-31, 1944, 1962, 1965) all resulted in NFL titles for the Packers.
Green Bay is the seventh defending Super Bowl champion to start the following season 6-0 (1986 Chicago Bears, 1990 San Francisco 49ers, 1998 Denver Broncos, 2000 St. Louis Rams, 2004 New England Patriots and 2007 Indianapolis Colts).
With Detroit losing their first game of the season on Sunday, Green Bay is the lone remaining undefeated team. The last time the Packers were the last remaining undefeated team was in 1965.
This will be the second straight season that Green Bay and Minnesota have squared off in the seventh week of the season. Last year, the Packers hosted the Vikings at Lambeau Field in Week 7, a 28-24 Green Bay win. That was the start of what is now an eight-game home winning streak for the Packers.
The Packers swept the season series against Minnesota last season, the first time they had done so since 2007. Under McCarthy, Green Bay has swept the season series against the Vikings on three occasions (2006, 2007, 2010).
Green Bay is off to its second 3-0 start on the road in the past 39 seasons. Both of them have come under the guidance of McCarthy, as the Packers also got off to a 3-0 start away from Lambeau Field in 2007.
Including playoffs, the Packers have won six straight road contests and eight of their last 11.
Green Bay enters Sunday’s game with 699 overall wins in franchise history. With a victory, the Packers would become only the second NFL team to record 700 overall wins (Chicago, 724).
The Packers have their bye in Week 8. Since 1994, Green Bay is 12-5 (.706) in the game heading into the bye.

SUCCESS IN THE DIVISION

Sunday’s game will mark the Packers’ second contest against an NFC North foe this season, with Green Bay already posting a win at Chicago in Week 3.
The Packers have a 22-9 (.710) regular-season record against NFC North opponents under McCarthy, a divisional record that ranks first among NFC teams over that period and tied for No. 3 in the NFL behind only San Diego (25-7, .781) and New England (25-8, .758).
That includes a 10-6 mark (.625) against NFC North teams on the road.
Green Bay posted a 4-2 record in the NFC North in 2010, the fifth straight season under McCarthy that the Packers won at least four contests in their division. The Packers and New England were the only teams in the NFL to post four-plus wins in their division each year from 2006-10.

WITH THE CALL

FOX Sports, now in its 18th season as an NFL network television partner, will broadcast the game to a regional audience.
Play-by-play man Thom Brennaman and color analyst Troy Aikman will have the call from the broadcast booth with Pam Oliver reporting from the sidelines.
Will the purple fans and the Vikings be fired up & inspired, a la Josh Freeman's first start in 2008 for Tampa Bay when they beat Rodgers when they were 0-7?
Rodgers looked like crap that game.
Well all this "undefeated" talk bite us in the @ss this week?

Not really suprised to see him starting. Its a home game and there's very little tape on him. I expect a heavy dose of Adrian Peterson and a few suprises with Harvin to keep the pressure off him.

The best way to take AP out of the game is to score early and often. Newhouse and Bulaga have to keep Rodgers clean. If they can do that, I don't their secondary can match up at all.

I've been waiting to see more of Cobb's speed on turf. We got a glimpse in NO. I hope we get to see more this weekend.

Glimpse in NO? The game vs the Saints was at home in Lambeau

Packers have only played 1 dome game this year and that was @ ATL

Yeah, Cobb's speed/quickness are to his advantage on all surfaces, but he and everyone else should be a bit quicker on the turf.
Isn't the Metrodome the basic field turf now though? Not the old school fast carpet on concrete.

We started slow AT Carolina.
We started slow AT Atlanta.

I'd like to get out early and up big, take Peterson out of the gameplan. Force Ponder to throw it often. Meet Mister Matthews.

Make your predictions gentlemen, in the poll. Go on record.

I chose:
"Packers finally play their A game for 4 quarters and crush Vikings by 4 TDs+"

Now I doubt their going to win by 4 TDs but I think the 14-21 point range is highly possible. After that terrible showing the Queens showed against the Bears last week its hard to think other wise.

No Chris Cook for Sunday?

Quote:
Vikings CB Chris Cook was arrested for domestic assault on early Saturday morning. Cook has been charged with misdemeanor domestic assault and "intentional attempts to inflict bodily harm on another." He is reportedly being held without bail until a Monday morning court appearance. If that's indeed the case, it means he will be unavailable for Sunday's game against the Packers. His absence would be a huge blow for a team already expected to be without starting CB Antoine Winfield. Cook was arrested and charged with brandishing a gun in March, but was acquitted.

That would be great, but somehow, don't be shocked that the Vikings are once again able to circumvent the law, and get this guy released in time to make the game.

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook, arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of domestic assault, will not play on Sunday in the game against the Green Bay Packers, according to an updated story by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

The newspaper reprorts that Cook is being held on probable cause for domestic assault/strangulation, which if charged, is a felony. He's also being held on probable cause for fifth-degree domestic assault, a misdemeanor.

Our defense is trash. Hard to believe this is pretty much the same defense as last year. Where has our secondary gone to???

Hey what do you know, we get near the redzone and completely abandon the run.

Defense needs to step up here and create a turnover.

Again it's the lack of pressure. Vikes OL is awful and they only have 1 sack on Ponder and have rarely even hit him. Without the elite pass rush, Peprah's limitations get exposed. He got torched on that long Jenkings reception on the first play and then AP simply just ran right around him on his big run

Clay is the only threat up front to get home. Walden is invisible when it comes to the pass rush and the DT/DE arent' getting much of a push

still, the turnover spotted them the ball at the GB 47 on what ended up being their 2nd TD. Can't give up points off turnovers, regardless of who you play

Vikes are playing it very safe and the Packers have to stop AP. They did a ****** job in the first half of that. They can't let him get going. Ponder is just throwing slants and quick strikes....Pack need to start jumping those routes

Great start to the 2nd half! Time to wratchet up the pressure on Ponder though.

Percy Harvin is questionable (ribs) to return as well.

I commend him for trying to run the ball there, but seriously do we ever not run it off tackle with our RBs?

Just when you think the secondary is stepping up they allow the Vikings to go 93 yards and score. Poor coverage on Woodson and Bishop on that series. Gets them right back into the game...

2 weeks in a row the offense just goes to **** by the 4th quarter. WTF was that? They were moving at will and then after that it was just fg's and 3 and outs. Good to see them keep the ball at the end to ice it at the end, though

Gotta give it to Ponder. He made some real good throws on the move. If that was McNabb, the Pack either sack him or he throws it 5 yards short of the receiver or at their feet

Great game guys. I wish the Packer fans I sat by at the game were as classy as the fans on this site. Aaron Rodgers is a generational talent, glad I got to see him in person. if Green Bay simply threw the ball on every play, Packers would have had the game in hand much earlier than they did. I was very surprised by the timid play calling after the Jennings touchdown. Vikings had three starters in what was already a bad secondary gone, max protects and deep throws would have meant a career day for Rodgers imo.

That was a blatant missed call on a block in the back against the first Vikings that Cobb ran by. But we did get the make up call on the roughing the passer, so I can't complain too much.

One last question, is Finley as bad of a blocker as it looks or did he just have a bad game? Maybe I missed something, but he looked completely disinterested in run blocking the entire game. I think McCarthy took him out for a large part of the 2nd half to get better blocking tight ends in the game, but I could be mistaken. Hard to pick up on stuff like that from the stands.

Anyways, good luck the rest of the way.

Best of luck the rest of the way.

Gave up a lot of 3rd and 6+ conversions today.

AP did what everyone feared he would and we survived.

Tired of seeing blitzers stuffed in the hole. Even when Capers brings extra guys they just aren't getting home.

Gotta give it to Ponder though. When they were able to get hits on him he didn't seem to flinch. He would be wise to start sliding on scrambles though. It took a concussion before Rodgers learned that lesson.

Cobb muffed punt really hurt as did his drop on third down.

Roughing call on Clay was horse****. Not sure what they expect him to do in that situation.

Nice to see the O-line work to seal the game. They were actually able to line up in obvious run situations and create holes. That is something I'm not accustomed to seeing from this team.

Question: If nearly every kickoff is a touchback what good is enforcing a personal foul on the ensuing kickoff?

When they moved the kickoff up they should have done something to account for that scenario. There were two penalties on the Vikings today that they basically got away with because all it did was move the kickoff up even farther.

It's funny that you mentioned that because I was talking to my brother about that same thing. Wonder how long we see the pooch kickoff that lands inside the 5 or very shallow in the end zone to try to pin a team deep when that happens. Crosby's kickoffs go through the end zone anyways. Might as well just have him put a lot of hang time on it and either force the returner to fair catch it or get his clock cleaned.
