NFL to Hold Smaller Combines

The NFL has announced it will hold eight regional combines for players not invited to the regular scouting combine in Indianapolis this year. The regional combines will begin January 28 and run though March 17. The initial regional event will be held in Los Angeles with combines also scheduled for Houston, Baltimore, Tampa, New York, Chicago, Atlanta and Cleveland. Some players may then be invited to a follow-up combine in Detroit on March 30-31.The main combine in Indianapolis is scheduled to run from February 22-28.

Wow, I wonder if the NFL Network will cover the regional combines or at least the follow-up combine in Detroit, March 30-31. This could be fun.

Good to see them getting this more organized. It can't be that hard to really get these set up. The nice part from this a lot of small school guys will get more exposure and the NFL front offices can be a little more trusting of the numbers. Also it gives a shot to guys who have been out of college for a year or so but didn't catch on with a team immediately.

I think this is very good news for small school prospects since if they can impress scouts with their athlectism they could get drafted earliler. Hopefully NFLN hosts some of them, maybe the first one and another big one, and the exposure of some unknown prospects will be exposed

They should half the time when I had NFL Network all they showed was Total Access in the morning till like 3 pm est.

I'll be happy if they at least film the call back one in Detroit even if it is considerably shorter than the main combine.

I don't remember it at all. I think this is something new.

I think a third-party put on some regional combines last year if I recall correctly, but they were not officially sponsored by the NFL.

The NFL actually bought up all those regional combines from ELITE earlier this year. Instead of 3rd parties doing it, it is now all through the NFL. We even had a thread on his back in February.
