I can't find the tweet, but someone close to the Jaguars tweeted yesterday something along the lines of this:
Quote:
|
Jaguars have asked 4 head coaching candidates if they can work with Gabbert. All four said "he is great."
|
Some people will say anything to get a job.

"He's great." Did they watch him?

Redskins Defense - TM - Redskins
Former Bucs coach Raheem Morris reportedly dined with members of the Redskins organization Wednesday night.
As George Wallace of WTOP Washington points out, Morris and Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan were assistants on Tampa's staff in the mid-2000s. Both up-and-comers then, Shanahan was a lowly Quality Control coach while Morris had just been promoted to assistant DBs coach. Redskins GM Bruce Allen also just so happened to hold the same position in Tampa. The Skins would likely target Morris to coach their secondary, potentially with an "assistant head coach" tag.

Any word on Sparano interviewing anywhere for an OL coaching gig? I want him back on the Cowboys bad.

Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune is "hearing" that Jeff Fisher is leaning toward accepting the Dolphins head-coaching overtures.
Yahoo's Mike Silver also reported late Wednesday that the Dolphins had the lead, though the Rams are getting their shot to woo him on Thursday. The Fins are said to be willing to match any financial offer Fisher is presented.

I like that fit. Fisher likes a more run-based offense. Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas should be sufficient to run it. That hire should help minimize the fact that they don't have a good QB.

I disagree. He spent the last decade of his career getting his ass kicked by Peyton Manning and the Colts more often than not. I can't imagine him wanting to go to a team with yet another mediocre-or-worse QB situation. Especially with the prospect of Brady and the Pats standing in his way.

Manusky fired in San Diego. Someone else can inherit that very lackluster defense. They badly need a pass rusher beyond what Shaun Phillips provides.

Not just one of the greatest QBs of all-time, but Peyton "If you don't draft me #1 I'm going to kick your ass for 10 years" Manning. I wouldn't rule out a move to the Jaguars, just so he can try get in 4-6 wins against the Colts new GM before he retires.

With Polian out and Irsay in charge, Peyton will be a Colt or retire due to the injury. Those are the only two options I realistically see based on how things went down.

Dan Pompei is one of the best in the business, so if he says it, I'm inclined to believe it's true.

Does any Rams/Dolphins fan here really want Jeff Fisher? If so, can I ask why, exactly?
Have these teams not realized yet that coaching upgrades in the recent NFL have almost exclusively been younger and less experienced hires who come in with fresh ideas and become good, rather than hacks who are hired apparently already good? A bit of name power goes a long way with some, it seems.
I guarantee the most popular criticisms for out going coaches - too conservative, playing not to lose, boring - are exactly what Fisher got lumped with too. I'd be suspicious of a team wanting Fisher because I think they might be trying to install him long term for the sake of it regardless of performance, to achieve some sort of stability artificial or otherwise, just because crazy ol Bud Adams did it and hence gave Fisher this aura of stability.

Bresnahan and 3 other assistants, including Rod Woodson, are out in Oakland. And of course, the team is playing games with their contracts, making them work out their final 2 weeks.
Al Davis taught them well.

Not surprising. This guy is not that great of a defensive coordinator.

Albert Breer of NFL Network Reported that OC Jay Gruden is favorite for Jacksonville Jaguars Head Coach vacancy.
Gruden also said he is interested in Job but wants to focus on playoffs before any interview is setup.

Most of the coaching failures in recent history also fit that description. It's a question of sheer numbers. Most coaches hired in the NFL are first-time guys.

Maybe he feels since he helped make Dalton pretty good he can do the same for Gabbert.
At least...it'll be hilarious to watch him try and fail....make chicken salad with chicken **** lol

Joe Philbin will interview with Miami, although it sounds like Fisher is a strong favorite for that gig. I'd be interested in hearing how Miami fans would feel about settling for Philbin.
Like I said before, it wasn't until Philbin took over for Jagodzinski that the Packers offense exploded (although that may say more about Jagz loopy ass than it does about Philbin). Favre suddenly looked like a MVP-type player again after several years of "meh..." play.

No way he goes to Jacksonville or any other team this year. If people think Rob Chudzinski is a bit inexperienced for the job, then what does that make Jay Gruden? Chudzinski has been an OC in this league longer.
I still think it's either Murlacky or Chudzinski that coaches the Jags. Not Gruden.
