It's posters like JHL along with ESPN honks who ruin the image of the SEC for everyone.

The SEC will just keep stomping your a**es with their terrible quarterbacks on the way to a dozen straight national championships.

Alabama was just dominant. I thought they were the better team last game too just settled for field goals too much. And Jesus, when u let ur opponent cross the 50 yard line ONCE! I don't think putting Lee in woulda mattered. Bama woulda won if LSU had any1 not named Aaron Rodgers back there.

The butthurt in these threads is only slightly better than the possibility of a system better than the BCS.

When was it written that you can't be excited for offense if you're an SEC fan? I'd rather watch Washington vs Baylor 100x than re-watch that Alabama vs LSU national championship game once. That was just wretched.

Sure, defense is exciting. I enjoy watching linebackers smack the **** out of running backs, DB's lay out wide receivers, and ends getting sacks, knocking down the QB, shedding blocks, etc...

But watching offenses like Oregon's, Oklahoma State's, West Virginia's, Wisconsin's, Baylor's, Michigan's, etc is just as fun. I like it when teams can put points on the board. That's what makes games exciting.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Florida under Meyer and Auburn last year have exciting offenses? They won in the SEC and national championships, iirc. Same thing with Spurrier when he was at Florida.

The presumption that you can only win in the SEC with defenses and field goals is preposterous. It's about talent and coaching. The SEC is able to get more because of how rich the South is in recruits and how low the academic standards are for all the SEC schools with the exception of Vanderbilt.

Saban and Miles win with defense. That's it. Everyone knows Saban always has great defenses. Miles began having great defenses when he brought Chavis to Baton Rouge.

Who knows how Oklahoma State would have fared vs LSU or Alabama but I would have liked to have seen that. It would've probably been a more exciting game than the one we had last night.

Maybe the BCS got everything completely right. Doesn't change how much I didn't enjoy the game. I'm allowed to complain about that, right?

"Exciting" offense isn't the point. It's obvious that a lot of people don't realize how bad of defense is being played against these offenses of Oregon, Baylor, West Virginia, Oklahoma St., etc. every single week.

Those offenses are not 'special'. Neither Oregon's nor West Virginia's amounted to a hill of beans against LSU. LSU's offense however, is designed to compliment the defense and take over games in the 4th quarter by physically making the other defense quit. Which is what you saw happen.

Malzahn's offense at Auburn with Cam Newton was still very much a power based offense at it's core. Counters and pulling guards in the run game, and pounding the rock between the tackles. He just does it out of different formations. The principle is the same. You saw the dominant between the tackles ground game with Dyer take over late in the game against Oregon.

Meyer's teams at Florida played outstanding defense under Charlie Strong. They were one of the best defenses in the country. (ask Bob Stoops and Oklahoma's awesome offense, Brian Kelly and Cincinnati's awesome offense, etc.) Again, it was a very power based offense at it's core with Tebow running between the tackles to pick up the tough yards. Meyer made adjustments to his offense when he came to Florida to make it more power based. He had to.

Steve Spurrier revolutionized offense in the SEC by proving you could win by throwing it all over the place. At least that's the myth. Spurrier always had a stud RB at Florida and pounded teams between the tackles with his running game. They just never played much defense.

I agree with anyone that says they would rather have seen Oklahoma St., etc. play LSU or Bama in the title game simply from a contrast in styles perspective. I get that.

But there's one thing that the national championship game is designed to do that takes precedence over your 'entertainment'..... and that's to get the two best teams in college football playing each other in the national championship.

I don't give two ****'s about anyone's 'entertainment'. That's what the Baylor vs. Washington, and Stanford vs. Oklahoma St. bowl games are for.

The national title game is going to be played by the two best teams. Period.

West Virginia threw for 463 yards against LSU this year and added another 70 on the ground. that sounds like a little bit more than a hill of beans. Oregon put up 335 yards of offense. That isn't great, but it's 75 yards more than the amount given up on average (103 yards more if you remove Oregon and West Virginia from that average).

LOL --- they both got BLOWN OUT! Thus their 'stats' don't amount to a hill of beans.

They're both HALF of a football team. Just like Oklahoma St.

West Virginia was down 27-7 at halftime against LSU. Chavis allowed Geno Smith to pad his stats by playing a soft Cover-2 and allowing the underneath routes to be completed.

Oregon was down 33-13 to start the 4th quarter! LOL

Which part is it about not being able to hang with LSU's defense that you fail to understand?

Neither Bama nor LSU's punter would see the field against Oklahoma St.'s 107th ranked defense. These offenses practice against their own pathetic defenses and think that everyone else plays defense like that.

LSU and Bama aren't going to play 10 yards off the receivers and let the QB stand back there throwing passes while his jersey never gets dirty.

They're going to be face mask to face mask with those receivers in tight press coverage and not allow the routes to develope... meanwhile pounding the quarterback into the turf every play.

They're both HALF of a football team. Just like Oklahoma St.

West Virginia was down 27-7 at halftime against LSU. Chavis allowed Geno Smith to pad his stats by playing a soft Cover-2 and allowing the underneath routes to be completed.

If the West Virginia game wasn't proof enough that LSU could be thrown on then the Alabama game definitely proved it. Alabama took advantage of LSU's aggressiveness by using play-action effectively. Hanks, the Bama receiver, also was a match-up problem with Mathieu and ran his routes perfectly against him. By opening up the passing game it opened up the running game.

Oklahoma State is a more potent version of West Virginia with better weapons and a better QB. Oklahoma State's offensive line has also been very good this year by allowing just 12 sacks on Weeden all year.

Who knows how Alabama would have fared against Okie St. It would have been interesting to see considering it would have been by far the best offense Alabama would've seen all year and it's not even close.

There's a lot of points and counter-points that can be made but the fact is that Oklahoma State didn't get their opportunity to play either team so all that can be done is debate about what could have happened.

Either way, I think it would have been a more enjoyable game than what we were witness to January 9th.
