Oh god... good luck Bears fans if that ever happens.
From the sounds of things, Tice will still be one "in charge" of the offense as a whole. I liked some of the things he was saying yesterday about building the offense around Cutler and doing whatever it takes to protect him. The best part was when he said about having Cutler do the things he made a pro bowl doing in Denver.(Designed roll outs and what not...things Martz only allowed begrudgingly.)

Just saw on NFL.com that B.Schottenheimer and Billick are in the running for the Falcons OC position.

That's quite possibly worse than Mularkey. Offensive conservatism ftmfw!!

And Billick as a coordinator? He's got it pretty good in broadcasting and has a Superbowl ring...not sure why he'd come back only as a coordinator.

Apparently he (Billick) and Smith are close. Related by marriage.

I also assumed when it was announced that Schottenheimer was not returning to the Jets that it was a forgone conclusion Marty was getting the TB job and Brian was joining him as OC.

So Atlanta is basically looking to replace Mike Mularkey with clones of Mike Mularkey.

Really, all of those guys (sans Billick under Denny Green) run the exact same offense. Terminology might be slightly different (Schotty and Koetter run more WR screens, too), but it's the same route concepts, philosophies, etc.

Ah, my beloved philosophy of it being 3rd and 10, and the play call being a 7 yard slant that has absolutely no shot of picking up more than 7 yards.

Every Jets game I saw with Schotty at coordinator had this exact thing happen. WR runs 7 yards, catches the pass, and is immediately met by some combination of a CB, S and/or LB, tackling him immediately. The play doesn't have a chance in hell of picking up the first down unless there is hilarious bad tackling by 2-3 guys.

Good luck Atlanta.

Roddy and Julio are faster and stronger than the Jets WR's so running slants and breaking a couple should be easier for them. Maybe Schotty has a little more success.

BTW I read that if Marty gets the TB job that Brian will not be his OC. Either his dad knows he is a crappy OC or Brian doesn't want to work with his dad.

Yeah, I don't know why they are even interviewing him. He was terrible in SF, St.Louis, and Tampa. Why does he get another crack at being OC/QBs coach when he's failed at that job 3 TIMES?

Because this is an era of retreads.

I want to know how those interviews go.

GM: "So, you've failed in the position we are interviewing you for so badly that you've been fired 3 times by 3 different teams."

Interviewee: "Yes."

GM: "Sounds great, so when can you start?"

David Lee signed with the Bills as QB coach. Hopefully there aren't too many cute ideas between him and Gailey for Brad Smith packages.

Now that the Raiders seem to be doing something competent...it has made it a lot better for me to enjoy all this. Some of these teams are busting out Raider-esque moves and its hilarious.

The OP is factually wrong. He was never the OC at San Francisco. He took over mid-season after Mariucci was fired in Detroit, but that hardly counts.

He took over in St. Louis for one year under the sinking ship with Scott Linehan. He was replaced and the team got no better until Linehan was fired.

His only real experience as an OC was in Tampa, and while that didn't go well, Raheem Morris was an awful head coach, and Tampa is lacking in offensive talent, so I wouldn't put it all on him.

I don't really want Olson, but the opinion of fans about departing coaches/players is damn near meaningless 99% of the time.

Mularkey, Schotty and Gabbert will usher in a new era of terrible for the NFL. 5 yard outs on every play...400 carries for MJD, all of which are dives...Nothing can stop them now.

If those 3 really do come together I might want to see Jax on national TV a few times just to see how inept their offense is. That's a whole lot of suck on the offensive side of the ball.

QB coaches are overrated when you have a franchise qb. Eli's qb coach is a converted WR coach who never coached QBs in his life, and is "learning on the job"

So basically, he doesn't do ****.

Cutler doesn't need a qb coach.

I second this.

A QB coach becomes important when you have young quarterbacks that need developing. Thats where they make their money, by turning potential into production.

It's the passing coordonator part that afraids me. When has Greg Olson proved to be a good play designer ? Never. His plays are so vanilla and extremely predictable. I remember during the MNF game vs the Colts when Gruden was able to call multiple times exactly what play we were going to run. You know you're bad when 5 times out of 16 games, the opposite team's defensive players say that they knew every routes our WR were going to run.

I hope you enjoy the out and curl routes Bears fans.
