Obvious comment is obvious.

I don't think he would even try to run it.

I give it a better chance of succeeding than anything Mike Sherman or Brad Childress would have brought.

No, I think they stick it out with Freeman a while longer. They kept their GM, yes?

They might resign Josh Johnson now. He would be a fit.

Hopefully this is just a local station shooting their mouths off in a misguided attempt to get some national attention.

Let's see...

- College coach without 5 minutes of experience at any level of coaching within the NFL.
- Runs a ridiculous offense that couldn't possibly work in the NFL.

If this is true, it's going to be Steve Spurrier 2.0.

Rick Stroud just confirmed on his twitter what that station is saying.

Quote:
@NFLSTROUD
Oregon coach Chip Kelly is finalizing a deal to become the Bucs head coach, sources confirmed to the Tampa Bay Times Sunday
@NFLSTROUD
Kelly met with general manager Mark Dominik and members of the Glazer family this past week.

@NFLSTROUD
Both Kelly and the Bucs are proceeding down a path that they mutually hope will result in an agreement in the next 24-48 hours.

The Bucs are making such a ridiculous decision. No prior NFL experience, runs a gimmicky offense in college, and the track record for coaches that coaches gimmicky offenses going into the NFL is pitiful

I agree that this is a good hire, because it prevents them from hiring any of their other candidates.

Sherman, in particular, did less with more talent than any coach in recent memory.

EDIT: It apparently doesn't matter. Kelly allegedly decided to stay with Oregon:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...tay-at-oregon/

It's hard to imagine a search for a HC being any worse than this.

Whether you think it's a good or bad move, Kelly is staying at Oregon.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...tay-at-oregon/

That means Mike Sherman and Brad Childress still have a shot!

No no no...

Chilly is one of the most clueless individuals I've ever seen try to coach an NFL game. If not for a Brett Favre career twilight season, Chilly would have crashed and burned misusing AP and limping along with T-Jax.

Then there was the disaster trade and cut of Randy Moss...horrible.

I think Chip would have known that his pure system wouldn't translate well, but elements of it may have. It certainly would have been more interesting than hiring a retread like Chilly who wasn't even that good in the first place.

Not that they will hire Chilly, but they've interviewed him, which is terrifying enough.

I actually think the Chip Kelly hire would have been alright for Tampa. There's no ******* way he'd be bringing a pure spread to the table anyways, odds are he ends up somewhere between that Florida spread McDaniels was running and what Chan Gailey has going on in Buffalo now. But he is a hell of a lot better then Mike Sherman or Brad Childress, I'll tell you that much.

Covering bases maybe? Plus if he and Moss are close in terms of what they bring to the table, it would be more beneficial to rob a divisional rival of their DC than a team in another conference.

Comments like this always remind me of how little people actually know about the scheme side of football.

What, specifically, was the downfall of Spurrier's scheme in the NFL? You get three guesses.

Apparently the Bucs are furious, and rightfully so. Chip Kelly agreed to be the Bucs head coach and then back out at the last second.

Tampa keeps things tight lipped and no one even had a clue he interviewed. The only reason the Bucs let this get out to the media is because it was basically a "Done Deal" until Kelly B*tched out.

He basically pulled something similar to Billy Donovan did with the NBA a few years back. I hope he never gets looked at by an NFL team again.
