Mack hasnt done anything the last 2 years to earn that, though. If I were the AD at UT he would be on the hot seat in my eyes. Texas isnt a program that is in the position to be accepting seasons where you arent making bowl games/or playing for the holiday bowl.

He's two years away from playing in the national championship game. This isn't the NFL. Smart programs don't hire/fire people based off of 2 years.

Yeah it was real fun in 2002-2009 when FSU kept basically applying that logic with Bobby Bowden.

Schiano to Tampa Bay.
Rutgers is going to be hurting from that one.

I just looked at what some Rutgers fans are saying, and they are mentioning Pat Fitzgerald.
Why do fans keep bringing up Fitzgerald for their school's coaching vacancy? Like if it was a premier school, ok maybe. But Rutgers? Why would a young, seemingly up and coming coach ditch his alma mater in a significantly stronger and vastly more respected conference, for at best a lateral move to Rutgers?
(no offense to you Rutgers guys, but it's true.)

Everyone is in shock. Names are just being thrown out. There is no thought behind many of the suggestions. We're probably ****** and back to the Dark Ages we go.

I gotcha. I feel for you guys, especially so close to signing day. I hope you don't revert back to the Dark Ages, Rutgers is one of my favorite non-Iowa teams.
Has anyone checked on scotty this morning...?

Two names I've heard mentioned for the Rutgers job: Al Golden and Mario Cristobal. I expect RU to make a big run for Cristobal, who would be a home run hire for them to replace Schiano.

I lol'd. Cristobal would be a great hire for Rutgers, probably best case scenario for them.

Rutgers is a great job. The talent in NJ is off the charts. They should go after Steve Addazio. He recruited NJ when he was at Florida and does it even better now that he's at Temple.

Cristobal or Addazio would be the best young hires. We're probably going to promote Cignetti from within though.

NJ's talent is not off the charts. It's somewhat above average on the charts.

7 first round picks from the 2009 draft were from NJ. Don Bosco is the #1 HS team in the country.

Considering the size of NJ and the amount of D-1 players we have it's a very strong football state.

Yea, for the size it's a really good amount of talent coming out of NJ.
Iowa loves to recruit NJ, so we'll see how Schiano leaving helps us, if at all...

I think this discussion was had here around this time last year. NJ is good, not great. It's top 15, even when looking per capita, not in total.
It's not a knock, it's good just not OMG Rutgers should be awesome.

I'm sure it's a lot more fun winning the Champs Sports Bowl under Jimbo.
Also, go back up and note how I said two years, not seven.

I wouldn't sweat Schiano leaving, Rutgers fans.
He boosted the team from nothing to something. With the right hire (and it doesn't have to be a big name), they can boost the program from something to consistently vying for the conference championship.

If this recruiting class stays together then I'm fine with everything. Schiano built the program so it could stand on it's own even if he left and right now it's going just that. It's just weird for the Rutgers fans here because all we know is Schiano.
