His key words are "if we adjust our defense" which would hopefully mean getting bigger DL to take up blocker for Lee and Carter.
I like how Jerry basically said Bruce Carter isn't the the right compliment to Sean Lee, so we need to fix something or we are in deep S***t

I actually think Carter and Lee are good size with the way the NFL game is being played nowadays. Lee himself said he doesn't want to weigh over 240 because he doesn't want to lose any speed and quickness. How many teams are true power running teams anymore? Linebackers need to be able to run now. Look at Brooking and Bradie. Those guys are outdated. And even if a team was trying to ground and pound, that's why you get a true NT....

I agree, that was one of the biggest downfalls last year was the inability of Bradie and Brooking to effectively play in coverage due to their lack of athleticism. I was simply reiterating what Jerry said, all that said, I hope you are right that a NT is on the radar. I really want to see some Dontari Poe to see if he is the real deal but I would be fine with Alameda Ta'amu in a trade down senario.

Agree, too. If we get a big body at NT, lee and Carter will do well.

Ta'amu could be had in the 2nd...maybe. With the number of 34 defenses out there, a 330+ DT could be a premium pick.

I think it would be an inevitability that he is gone by the time the Boys go on the clock in the second round.

Man, I just read an article on BTB talking about the 2012 free agent class. They brought up the free agents signed in 09, 2010, and 2011. Boy was it sad. Brooking, Igor Olshansky, Sensabaugh, Abram Elam, and Kenyon Coleman are the only free agents signed in the past 3 years. That's got to change.

I'm not one of those guys who cries when there isn't some major splash in FA, but you got to do better than that if you want improve. They draft and sign UDFA pretty well, but the reason why there are some big ass holes on the team is because of the lack of good moves in FA. Money is a sound reason to stay chill in free agency, but this year there is really no excuse. They want to change the make up of the team, but still stay competitive. With the cap room available they have to go out and sign some good players rather than the stop gap solutions they've been looking for in FA in the past. No need to get stupid and give Carl Nicks a $100 contract or anything silly like that, but they have the cash to get most of what they need.

From Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas:

Quote:
It seems Keith Brooking wants to continue playing, according to his agent Pat Dye Jr. Brooking is open to playing a reduced role with the Cowboys. You could say he played a reduced role in 2011, but that was only after the team felt confident enough in Sean Lee's development in training camp to pair him up with Bradie James. The Cowboys want a younger team, especially on defense, but if Brooking is willing to play 10 defensive snaps with some special team duties per game, it might be worth keeping him around.
If we bring Brooking back I'll kill somebody. His "veteran leadership" is garbage now because he sucks and nobody is going to follow him. Sean Lee knows what to do now you don't need him. Get anybody who can fill a hole faster than him. We need ATHLETES, not these retread guys who can't move anymore. This isn't 1960, you need to be able to move in today's NFL.

I wouldn't mind having him back if he could still move. The dude just can't run anymore. Love what he brings to the table, but he's done.

He should just retire. Maybe go into coaching if he likes to stay in the business.

A sleeper free agent possibility at CB is Richard Marshall. He just turned 27 and had a pretty good season. Ray Horton (Cardinals DC) called him the MVP of the defense this past year. I have no idea if they are going to retain him or not, but shouldn't be ridiculously expensive and is a solid young player.

He's versatile too, played some safety last year.

Jerry's comments on the ILB stuff only reminds me of how dumb he is.

Could the Cowboy play two light ILB playing sideline to side line? Sure but you need to play much more 2-Gap, you need two NT to take the pounding and you better get some DE that can actually push the pocket backwards.

Crennel (who I think is an amazing D dude) wants his DE to play 320 and his NT at 350. 3 players to neutralize the 6 players on the OL and collapse the pocket backwards. He is playing chess, using Pawns to render your Queen and Knights useless.

Now you got 7 players who can player lighter, and faster who can get after the ball in a variety of coverage and blitz schemes.

So, if Jerruh is talking that, GREAT!!!!!!! But somehow I doubt it.

Quote:
The players drafted after the Lions' selections could have made the Cowboys Super Bowl contenders this past season.

Alex Mack, Vontae Davis, Hakeem Nicks, Patrick Chung, James Laurinaitis and Clay Matthews were all taken after Pettigrew. Mike Wallace, Lardarius Webb and Henry Melton were taken after Derrick Williams. Jason McCourty, Captain Munnerlyn and Julian Edelman were taken after Aaron Brown.

Add Clay Matthews, Mike Wallace and Captain Munnerlyn to the Cowboys instead of Roy Williams in 2009—and the Cowboys could be facing the New England Patriots this Sunday instead of the New York Giants.

Exactly what a was saying a week ago. Dammit, both Roy Williams' killed this franchise. Son of a b*tch.

What do you guys think about signing Satele? He'd come quite a bit cheaper than Meyers and he's only 27.

That's not fair. You can go back to every round of every draft, say "we should have took this guy" and build a superstar team.

It's just hindsight.

Meyers will get franchised before he leaves. The Texans know how important he is.

I think he's prob a bit above average, which is a major upgrade over what we have now. Def not a stud, but a solid pro.

Satele would be servicable, but he's not gonna be blowing people off the ball on short yardage plays if that's what you're expecting. I'd take anything over Costa at this point though.

EDIT: And for CDCB's revisionist theory, we could have had Wisniewski in Round 2 last year instead of Carter! I wanted him bad, he's been a stud for Oakland too. Just another reason why Bruce Carter better pan out, and when I say pan out I mean perennial pro bowler. ILBers are a dime a dozen, good Center play is much harder to find.

If I'm not mistaken Satele has some experience at Guard so we'd have options.

Kraig Urbik is another interesting name. He's a RFA. Wonder what type of tag Buf will put on him.
