Of course its a joke, Sancez could never hope to throw as deep as Boller did. 5 yard check downs ftw.

Also I never once said anything about Shotty being good.

Sanchez can throw it deep if given more than 5 seconds to throw.....

You make it out like Schotty was not the reason why the offense was putrid.

Maybe because he's not...

The offense is horrible because Mark Sanchez is a dogshit quarterback.

If your QB is getting 5 seconds thats more then enough time to throw a pass.

You realize how long 5 seconds is, right?

Matt Cassel can throw it deep if given five seconds to plant and step into his throw, too. That's, like, a baseline requirement for the position. Doesn't make him any less limited as a QB.

Schotty will never get mistaken for a brilliant OC, but he's a scapegoat for Sanchez.

Sanchez's inability to read defenses is his demise. He's so bad at reading defenses, they had to dumb down the offense to a college level playbook just so he could operate in it. And once teams realized the only plays Sanchez can make are 1 step quick slants, the offense was done.

Done.

I used to be a Sanchez supporter, but that was under the assumption that he would progress as a qb. He's shown absolutely no progression. He's the same player now as he was as a rookie. He can't read defenses, he is afraid to throw it downfield, he can't throw outside the numbers, he can't make 2 reads. He's just not a good qb.

We can argue about this all day, but the truth is we'll see what Sanchez really is this year. And I don't care if the Jets have 4 linemen go on IR, if Sanchez sucks next year I don't want to hear anymore excuses for the guy. He has a lot more talent around him than a lot of other qbs in this league yet does far less with it.

If Andy Dalton can step into the league as a rookie and look better than Sanchez has ever looked with no training camp and with less talent, I don't understand how Sanchez can look so bad in 3 years. There's no excuse for it with today's rules. He is what he is at this point. I've come to accept it. I think by the end of his 4th year, everyone else will as well.

No he wasn't **** for the last 3 years, he has been a solid second half QB for the first 2 years and almost unbeatable in the month of December till this season.

He showed a lot of promise and he had an off season. However, he entered the league as a 12 game college starter in his junior year and was raw as you can get. It comes as no surprise to me that it would take him at least 4 seasons to blossom and I fully expect a breakout season by him.

Now if he fails in his 4th season as a starter, I'll begin to wright him off, but it is a year too soon in my book to believbe this guy cannot get a whole lot better.

How much of this contract is guaranteed? I can't imagine the Jets would be stupid enough to give this kind of money to Sanchez based on what he's shown without a way to get out of the contract after 2-3 years.

Far too much worthlessness to only have one contributor. Schott and Sanchez are like peanut butter and jam.

I will say this, the Jets haven't helped Sanchez by bringing in so many personalities in the locker room. When you have a young developing qb, you don't surround him by loudmouths and divas and expect him to lead. You can't give him Santonio, Burress, and take away the good soldiers like Cotch and Smith and expect him to develop chemistry and leadership with those guys overwhelming him.

Guys, remember, Mark Sanchez just came off his best season as a pro with a QB rating of 75. He earned it! (sarcasm).

This extension just made it impossible in terms of locking up guys like Flacco, Ryan, Aaron Rodgers. Heck, even Alex SMith is a better QB than Sanchez. The Niners are probably livid because now his agent can use this against San Fran in contract talks.

Not much, PFT broke down the deal. About 20 million is guaranteed IIRC but it's all in the next two years pretty much. Seems like the Jets can get out of it pretty easily after 2013, and if he somehow turns it around they have a pretty reasonable deal with him for the next 3 years. Seems like a public vote of confidence and a way to free up cap space to me. He was almost certainly getting one more year anyway and there was a good chance two, this just guarantees that. Not ideal, but not nearly as bad of a deal as its being made out to be.

Especially if Plaxico is slow as **** and just got out of jail. They replaced Braylon their deep threat with Plaxico. They had no one to stretch the field not that it mattered this year since the Jets just ran slants like 80% of the time.

Santonio stretches the field just fine. Sanchez just doesn't look downfield.

He missed Cotch bc that was his security valve. Should have never got rid of Cotchery. That was a big mistake.

Eh yes and no. Santonio struggled because teams really didn't have to worry about Plax beating them deep. Wasn't as effective as he was with Braylon across from him, and with teams able to key in on him as the only real downfield option there was essentially no downfield option because he got neutralized downfield. It was like playing with post shoulder surgery Pennington again, teams were able to jump everything and nobody could separate because the defense knew if they stopped Holmes from getting loose nobody was going to beat them deep. Bringing in another guy who can get downfield this offseason would really help open up the offense IMO.

I will agree that getting rid of Cotchery was a mistake though. One of my favorite players while he was on the team, was a bummer to see him go and it definitely wasn't for the better. Mason was a huge mistake too.

I was referring to downfield. Since we didn't re-up with Edwards, we lacked a burner at that point.

Holmes was running routes with the motions, Burress when he was not called for an off. pass int. penalty or holding penalty did not have the speed and Kerley was used as a short yard WR. We lacked a true speedster on the WR group like what Braylon Edwards brought.

Thing with Cotch was...he was better than Mason easily but Kerley did what Cotchery did and be that short yard cushion.

Favre the 40 year old and Pennington the man with a million surgeries. How dare an offense not be elite with either of them at quarterback.

I would agree with you BUT Favre flourished under a clueless hack like Darrell Bevell a year later. Pennington albeit he did stay healthy in 08 was accurate and got his plays off all the while the offense ran the wildcat formation in 08 under Sparano, Sanchez's new OC.

I did not get on Schotty in 06-07 because our O-Line minus Mangold/DBrick/Moore was in absolute shambles but Schotty's had excellent O-Lines to work with and steady RB production from Thomas Jones in 08-09. Like people say on Sanchez, Schotty had ALOT to work with and failed to ever get a top overall offense down. His predictability was just so frustrating.

I really thought Schotty should have left with Mangini after 08, no idea how he survived for 3 more years.

Favre in that offense was perfectly fine until his elbow disintegrated. Then **** hit the fan.
