The San Francisco Giants, for example.

1) Baseball sucks!!!
2) I didnt mean FA, I meant re-signing Smith in general. Come on, its taking way longer than anyone here or anywhere for that matter expected and quite honestly, the Manning saga is dragging along.
3) There are more important things to life. I never said there wasnt. I just want to see who the QB for 2012 is going to be. Thats all. Right now, my money is on Manning because I think he can control Moss if he gets out of line where as with Smith, I dont think that he would do anything.

That price seems perfectly acceptable to me.

I have a feeling Condon didn't tell Alex about the Niners secret workout of Manning.

Let's hope that they weren't dishonest with Alex Smith.

As exciting as it would be to have Manning, and as much as many of you hate Smith...

I don't even want to consider not being able to sign EITHER of them.

Makes me sad just thinking about it.

That would certainly be worst case scenario... scary thought...

I can't believe that they'd pursue Manning without feeling pretty confident that they could fall back on Alex if he doesn't choose us.

Something no one has talked about yet is Kaepernick. If Manning signs what do you see going on with him?

I see Harbaugh finding a way to get him onto the field in certain packages. I also think that watching Peyton would do wonders for his development.

In my opinion, Peyton really only has 3 good years left, maybe 4. I was pumped about drafting Kaep, but it may be a while til he plays. But hey, if we're winning SBs with Manning, you won't see me complaining!

No i wont see him go anywhere because he still has a lot of learning to do. Besides that i think he will get more playing time because when we would be ahead earlier he will get to play. He was picked as a project-player and he still will be while learning from both Harbaugh and Manning. Win-win i guess because when Manning stops he is ready to play.

If they feel Peyton has 2-3 years at best, that would be perfect for Kaep if they feel he is the future.

I think Condon advised Alex to hold off on signing the deal so he could try and get more money out of the FO. And Alex probably took that as a ploy to buy them more time so they could meet with Manning. Something just doesn't add up with Condon and this whole situation.

I know Im probably the only Niner fan with this train of thought but I really don't want Manning and Im honestly quite shocked at Harbaugh for persuing him. Forget the whole "whatever makes the team better" side to it, this is a guy who championed Alex the whole year. Called him 'elite', raved about his abilities, said he was "defintely" a Pro Bowl QB. Just a week ago he claimed he was "losing sleep" because Alex wasn't signed yet. Now Manning comes along and all of that goes out the window. Just seems like none of it was sincere and was just a big hoax if he goes after the "quick fix" with Manning. For a guy that's quit to call the team a family, that doesn't seem very 'fatherly'- like and flies in the face of all the morals and values he's been spouting since he arrived.

And actually that price is lower than what Kolb got last year. If you claim that Alex is elite and a winner, then why not pay him like other QBs around the league? Seems sort of a low-ball, we know you love Harbaugh and want be here, kind of offer. I think 3 years, 30 million would have been perfectly fair.

Smith should have just signed the initial deal that was offered to him. Waiting was such a stupid idea. He has zero leverage in this situation.

Well it would be a nice gesture, but when you think about the situation realistically, our defense and special teams were the top two reasons we got as far as we did. And the running game would probably be third, followed by the passing game. He's not going to be paid like an elite quarterback. And Harbaugh was the one who made comments like those right? Harbaugh has nothing to do with how money is handled with players and whatever. That's Baalke and company, who I don't ever recall saying Alex was elite or such and such.

Kolb may have gotten more, but who cares. San Francisco shouldn't suffer for Arizona's stupidity.

LOL. That contract is what I would offer him if it was up to me with $15m guaranteed. Dont know what the guaranteed money is in that offer though. Would be funny as hell if its exactly what I have been saying for weeks. LOL.

I think that its more than fair. He got $5m last year. A $3m a year raise seems damn good to me. Hell, if he doesnt want it, I'll take it. :p

I have a feeling that they could be screwing over Smith and if I was him, I would wait to see what happens with Manning and Flynn. If Manning doesnt sign with SF and both are signed in general, if I was Smith, I would take less money and go somewhere else (SEA, CLE, etc.) because seriously, how could Smith believe anything that Harbaugh tells him? And I wouldnt be surprised at all if we end up not signing Manning or Smith and to be perfectly honest, if they're screwing over Smith, they deserve to get screwed over in return. I'm not the biggest Smith fan, hell, not even close but come on.

If Smith fires his agent and hires a new one, doesnt he have to wait a week or something before he can be signed or some crap like that? Also, if Smith fires his agent because his agent is screwing him and the team is screwing him, would he even want to come back to SF? He's already a millionaire, not like he needs the money. He could end up saying **** you to everyone and if he's getting screwed over, I wouldnt blame him or be pissed at him one bit. In fact, I would do the same exact thing.

Yeah, I know. As much as I wanted him to replace Rogers, Richard Marshall jumped in front of Allen but I didnt realize Marshall was a UFA until Rogers was already signed and Marshall was signing with Miami.

Whether the starting QB is Manning or Smith, I say the plan with Kaepernick remains the same but people have to realize this. Kaepernick has three years left on his contract so if/when the time comes for him to succeed Manning/Smith is in three years, it will be interesting to see if he gets re-signed and for how long and how much. Also, if they sign Manning and he still wants to play and is playing at a high level in three years, will they even keep or be able to keep Kaepernick? I think as long as Manning stays healthy and his neck/arm are at 100%, I can see him playing longer than three years. As much as im excited by the possibility of having a true franchise QB for a few years and possibly win a SB, im equally worried and concernced because quite honestly, just like I said after they signed Moss, this can either turn out great and into a huge cluster****.

Actually, you're not the only one with that thinking. As much as its exciting to possibly have a franchise QB like Manning, you have to think what happens if SF does sign Manning and Smith is basically screwed? Add the signing of Moss which quite honestly, I said there was something fishy with that because signing Moss doesnt make any sense whatsoever because he's only going to become a problem once Smith cant/doesnt get him the ball. I wouldnt be surprised if the locker room turns on Harbaugh and Baalke. Like I have said since they signed Moss and Smith still wasnt re-signed, this either can be great or could turn into a huge cluster****.

As for the 3 years $24m contract offer, I think thats fair and is exactly what I would have offered him but Harbaugh needs to shut the hell up. You never ever up a player's value no matter what the truth it. Thats just stupid, makes no sense whatsoever and isnt going to help get a deal done. 3 years $30m isnt much of a difference but at the same time, when your HC is praising you like an ELITE QB (which he's not and thus, why you dont say crap like that), you're going to expect to be paid like an elite QB. After all, if im not elite, why did you say it? You can spin it anyway you like but coaches, GM's, etc. always seem to increase a player's value and then ***** when the player calls them on it. Makes no sense. When dealing with a player's value....just shut the **** up.

As for Kolb, the Cardinals got screwed on that deal. When they acquired him, I was so happy because he sucks. Orton would have been a far better fit than Kolb and I was so happy that they didnt get him. And the Cardinals had an opportunity to release Kolb yesterday, admit their mistake and move on with more cap room but they decided to stick with him. Just because they're stupid doesnt mean we have to be stupid too.

I agree. He should have but at the same time, doesnt the player normally listen to his agent? I think this whole thing is on Condon and Baalke/Harbaugh more than Smith. Harbaugh and Roman went to see Manning throw on Tuesday and he then took and passed a physical on Wednesday. Baalke/Harbaugh are either bluffing really well or they're seriously interested in signing Manning.

Harbaugh has nothing to do with how money is handled with players and whatever. That's Baalke and company, who I don't ever recall saying Alex was elite or such and such.

Kolb may have gotten more, but who cares. San Francisco shouldn't suffer for Arizona's stupidity.
I agree with that but again, at the same time, if he had a better receiver who could spread out the offense, maybe Harbaugh would have opened up the passing game more. Cant blame just Smith for that and quite honestly, he had no problems throwing deep passes and completing them to Davis because unlike the other receivers, he has confidence in Davis and Davis is a stud so that helps too.

As for Harbaugh saying Smith is elite, let's be honest, HC's, GM's, Owners, etc. always pump up their players which in turn increases their value which in turn increases their demands. Granted, Harbaugh isnt the GM but he's the HC who sees them in practice, play the games, etc. and since he's the one coaching the players, he's going to want the player(s) that he wants and there's nothing wrong with that but at the same time, should shut the hell up and if he thinks Smith is elite, great but dont say that crap publicly. Say it to Baalke and keep it between the two of them.

As for Kolb, I agree. SF shouldnt overpay Smith just because the Cardinals were stupid and decided to overpay Kolb.

Not ideal for me but im much happier with him instead of Lloyd. I just hope that they dont release or trade Williams because I think that he can become pretty damn good for us.

Some of those who have pursued Manning the hardest believe he's head to San Francisco. If so, congrats to the 49ers.
