Oh yes, Carson Palmer is definitely a franchise QB.
Oh, we're talking about Alex Smith as a franchise QB? I forgot that happened. Please carry on with the "Alex Smith is worlds better than Palmer" discussion. My mistake.

I exaggerated that, but I still fully believe that Alex Smith is better than Carson Palmer as of this moment.

Is that why Smith was among the worst in sack % last year?
Y/A last year
Palmer 8.4 (4th)
Smith 7.1 (17th)
Y/Comp last year
Palmer 13.8 (2nd)
Smith 11.5 (unranked)
ESPN's QBR
Palmer 62.3 (11th)
Smith 46.4 (22nd)
If you take into consideration Palmer's 6 quarters coming in ice cold off the couch, the season looks even better. If I'm choosing between Alex Smith and Carson Palmer, I take Palmer 100% of the time. You'd better have a damn good team if you expect to win with Smith. Palmer can actually add value to your team.
If I'm choosing between Palmer and Smith, I immediately resign my position, take a few swigs of my "executive whiskey" kept in the top desk drawer and then shoot myself with the "executive revolver" also kept in said drawer because I've obviously failed to an incredible degree.
Palmer really did play well after the first 2 games, and I really don't see how a whole off season to get ready won't improve his play. At times this Raiders team quit on the field, but I never saw Palmer show any sign of quit. The defense was non existent most of the time, and our offense was still able to keep us in the game because of Palmer.

I think Palmer was a turnover machine last season though unless I'm mistaken. I know it was his first year with the team though so maybe that had something to do with it. On the other hand, I mean you need to protect the ball. Alex obviously wasn't a megastar last year, but at least he didn't screw things up time and time again and give the other team more opportunities. If Palmer cut down on the mistakes I think he'd be the clear favorite. We went 13-3 with Alex, I don't see us necessarily doing better or worse with Carson. It's really a shame that Carson's career has gown south. He was one of my favorite quarterbacks in the NFL and definitely the last time I was so sure a college player would be make a good quarterback in the NFL.

Smith should have never let Tom Condon screw this up. He's a smart guy he should have just signed the deal that was on the table and then we wouldn't be in this mess. It really sucks that the 49ers and Smith might be at odds now because of this Peyton Manning situation. If Manning signs great, but man what another setback for Alex.

Man, you'd off yourself over a QB who was on a 13-3 team that lost in overtime in the NFC Championship game?
Also, to any Bengals fans out there, can you tell me what Anthony Collins brings to the table?
Hasn't seen too much PT here but when he has he's done rather well. I'd like to see what happens with him in a starting role as I think he could be a serviceable at either right or left tackle. Seems to be more of a finesse guy than anything else so LT might be his best fit. Kinda reminds me of Levi Jones in a way without as much polish in his pass pro. He's definitely got some potential though.
