I don't understand why there are these limited comparisons here. Both Marino and Favre are all-time great QB's. Marino never won a ring, and Favre's SB was over 10 years ago. What is there to argue about here? They will both be in the Hall of Fame and will both have epic statlines when all is said and done. I refuse to vote here.

I've never been a fan of Brett Farve, I'm taking Marino.

Ah, so Favre is completely blameless here for not developing proper chemistry with his weapons, not getting rid of the ball in the right spots, and not throwing it away enough? You're over-defending him. What makes Favre great also makes him a poor QB at times. He thinks he can throw the ball into places he can't. Sometimes he succeeds. Other times, he throws 29 INT's...

The argument for Marino when comparing him to Elway, Montana, etc. was that he had the records. Now Favre has or will have many of his and already has a Superbowl ring. Both are great QBs, but the edge goes to Favre.

Everyone will forget how he single-handedly threw away playoff games three or four years in a row when the Packers' window was still open, and after it was closed, how he lingered on, playing his selfish little retirement games, and making the Packers wait on him instead of moving forward on solid footing.

I know you all will tell me right now that I just hate him because I am a Lions fan and Bearsfan will be sure to insult the Lions and say they haven't had a QB in 40 years. Doesn't change the truth about Favre though.
And what about Marino's last few seasons playing with the worlds largest knee brace barely able to even walk anymore? Those weren't exactly his glory years. Just look at the stats, besides two monstrous years by Marino, Favre's stats were consistently better in his prime as far as TD's, though Dan had the advantage in yardage (Dan did have alot more attempts though). I'm not knocking Marino, they were both amazing QB's, just sticking up for Favre.

Marino

Nobody said Favre was completely blameless, but he was basically playing with arena league players most of the season. We were down to our 5th or 6th RB, it was bad to the point that Samkon Gado became our "big star" for the season. Most of our WR core were guys that had to be brought up from the practice squad, that most likely have never even ran a route for Favre. Developing chemistry is a two way street, you can't just throw guys in and expect them to be on the same page. Every week Brett was playing with new players also, so he never really had time to develop chemistry. Anybody who is foolish enough to use that season as a measuring stick for Favre doesn't know jack about football.

Vince, I am well aware of the GB issues related to injuries and the salary cap that season. I expected Favre to have a bad year with 20 INT's and more INT's and TD's. He threw 29 INT's. There are legit exuses here, but you have to put some blame on him and more on the coaching staff for not giving him better play designs.

I totally agree. Like I said, he isn't without blame. He's always been a gambler and even in his prime he made too many stupid turnovers. I'm just tired of people using a freak year as an example of "how washed up Favre is".

I voted for Marino. In Marino's whole career only one running back had a 1000 yard season. That is 1 in 17 seasons. Favre by comparison was supported by 9 1000 yard rushers in 15 years in Green Bay.

The same point can be made in terms of defensive support.

Had Dan Marino had a better supporting cast he would have been unstoppable.

In the context that Marino had to play in IMO there has been no one better, he was the best pure passer ever.

First of all, I wasn't saying Favre isn't a Hall of Famer and an all-time great. He is certainly in the top 10. But not the top 5 imo. Too many mistakes, too much careless play.

Second, please spare me the excuses about poor receivers and guards and the sun getting in his eyes at Lambeau. I guess that means I can say Scott Mitchell and Joey Harrington were All-Pros except for having sucky players around them? No. You are what your results say you are.

Third, I don't blame "4th and 26" on him, but I seem to remember a string of playoff years when Favre threw costly late-game interceptions. And then there was that ridiculous play he made throwing some flip pass five yard past the line of scrimmage. Don't expect me to go look it all up.

Atleast Favre has balls. :)
Also how can you say he didnt develop chemistry with his WR's, Walker was injured in '05 along with Robert Ferguson. In '06 he had to throw to a rookie and two NFLE guys and did perfectly fine.
Its reasonable to say Favre is out of his prime, but in his prime he was much better than Marino. Unlike Marino Favre could run, so while Marino is the better pure passer Favre is the better QB. How many times do think Marino would scramble out of the pocket?

RB's in the 80's and 90's had an average of less yards. Anyway I'll shutup and let Vince debate this, he sounds better than me.

This is a joke. When discussing Brady and Manning, Brady was automatically better because of rings. But the same discussion doesnt count with Marino?

Ill take Manning and Favre, over Mariono and Brady.

Meh...this poll is just about dead even at this point. You could find facts and statistics and come up with arguments to support either one. It's nothing more than personal preference.

The same point can be made in terms of defensive support.

Had Dan Marino had a better supporting cast he would have been unstoppable.

In the context that Marino had to play in IMO there has been no one better, he was the best pure passer ever.
Dude Marino didnt have 1,000 yard rushers because the Dolphins threw 80% of the time. Favre was on teams that ran equally and his numbers still compare to Dan "I lost weight on nutri slim".

It is true that the Dolphins passed the ball a ton from what I know of Marino's years there.

Holmgren ran the West coast and so did his predecessors(Rhodes,Sherman and now McCarthy) and that type of offense requires RB's
