New Orleans Saints Scandal Thread
Here is the fallout of the league decision on the Saints:
-Sean Payton suspended the entire season without pay, effective April 1st.
-Gregg Williams suspended indefinitely, effective immediately.
-Joe Vitt suspended the first 6 games of the 2012 season.
-Mickey Loomis suspended 8 games.
-They lose a second round pick this year (2012) and next (2013).
-The team is fined $500,000.
Wow. Didn't expect something this harsh.
edit: 5/2, player suspensions are as follows:
-Jonathan Vilma suspended for one year.
-Anthony Hargrove suspended 8 games.
-Will Smith suspended for 4 games.
-Scott Fujita suspended for 3 games.

A WHOLE season for Payton?! WOW, talk about overkill.
Pete Carmichael, Jr... time for you to do your thing, sir!

Kudos to the NFL for coming down hard on this. Was not expecting anything close to this bad.

The Pats lost a 1st so the Saints should have too. Sure the suspension is bigger but IMO the offense was bigger here.
I'm glad Williams is out of the NFL. I doubt he's ever allowed back in.

I don't think coaches are going to let this sort of thing happen anymore, a full year suspension w/o pay? Ouch.

"Saints asst coach Joe Vitt also suspended six games and fined $100,000."
He would have taken over more than likely.

I was kind of hoping they'd take away their franchise tag too. I love me some Brees in KC!

Coincidentally the NFL can't have it! It's ours!
Looks like trading up last year is a more interesting move now. Wonder if the NFL would have taken it if the Saints still had it?

I would assume he will have no contact and say in their draft preparations.

Can the NFL monitor that? I don't think so. And if he is only suspended 8 games, that wouldn't apply yet.

So, will Carmichael become the interim coach then? He has more experience with the organization than Spags.

Cheat get fined and lose 1st round pick. Know about bounties and not stop get fined, lose multiple draft picks and get suspended the whole year. SMh

Yeah a GM being suspended for "games" seems irrelevant. If they wanted to really punish him, they should have said 8 weeks starting ASAP. That would be crippling.

They probably should have. Like you said, suspending a GM for in season games means next to nothing.

Player suspensions/fines are being reviewed by NFLPA and will come down soon as well. Bye bye Vilma.

Not sure yet. I'd guess Carmichael since he was the coach on the field while Payton was injured last year and has more experience with the franchise. Spags was just added this offseason afterall.
And of course PFT crashes, ha. Suspension news and Tebow news hitting at the same time.

Are there going to be any player punishments? Like Vilma. But good to see that this happened. Its a harsh decision but the league needed them to be made of example of so this stuff wouldn't occur again. Going to be interesting to see how the saints are this year now.
