Proof that the NFL has been impacted by The Great Recession, folks!
Also, CJ, keep in mind that these former players probably have lawyers who are advising that they not make public statements on the matter.

Yeah, that's not happening. Ever. No one is gonna give up their sources.

I wasn't aware that Rutger's was allowed to play in bowl games until the Schiano era. I figured he was about due to go up a notch in the coaching heirarchy, but he went to the Bucs instead.

LoL so what if he blitzed Alex Smith in the preseaon, he was terrible before this year. Unless your saying that Greg Williams was psychic and knew Alex Smith was going to beat them in the playoffs.

Journalist giving up a source = career death penalty.

Right, but when you have the ESPN school of journalism where it's: "SOURCE: JACK JACKSON LEANING TOWARD SIGNING WITH JAX" and nothing ever comes of it, that's potentially someone making **** up.

No, I'm saying that coaches who call all-out blitzes repeatedly in the preseason, have a mentality that leads me to believe that a bounty system under their watch shouldn't be surprising.

I understand, but that's what journalism has become. It still doesn't mean that anyone should ever give up their sources, you're always gonna have guys stretching the truth or just straight up making **** up.
I really doubt that's the case here when there are so many reports corroborating the allegations.

Journalists have gone to jail because they refused to give up their sources. It makes any NFL "Code of Honor" look like a kids game.

Apparently Benson left Payton in charge of picking the HC this year.

No, but I want to know more about the investigation and the proof. It has to me more than just word of mouth, and I doubt the had a "price list" written down.

Hrmmm...Lofton says that he and Vilma will work well together...
Quote:

“One thing about me, I don’t have an ego. And I know Jonathan doesn’t have an ego,” Lofton said. “When I was on my visit, they asked, ‘Are you just set on playing middle?’ And I said, ‘No, what I’m set on is winning games and winning championships.’ And Vilma said the same thing. We both just said we want to win. And he said he’s just glad they’re brining in playmakers who can help us win.”

This would seem to imply that the Saints either believe that Vilma isn't facing a year-long suspension, or that they're willing to stand by him if he does.

No offense man, but the organization was only expecting a 4 game suspension for Sean Payton. That didn't happen.
My 1 question is: If they don't cut Vilma, how are they affording these guys? Before the Bunkley signing, they had 3 million in cap space. They signed 3 guys. If they're backloading contracts, that's probably the dumbest thing.

Yeah, it did cross my mind that maybe the Saints still aren't taking this seriously, and they're drastically underestimating just how willing the League is to make an example out of them.

Yeah. My question for you though. How did the Saints afford Bunkley, Chamberlin, and Lofton, all with 3 million left in cap space before signing the 3? Plus, did they just forget about Drew Brees and his 14 mil base salary, which isn't more than Mark Sanchez?

That's a pretty good question. I'm not a Saints fan and I don't know much about their cap situation, but my guess is that they're probably backloading contracts in anticipation of a big salary cap hike a few years from now, and betting that Drew Brees will sign for whatever respectable contract they can offer.

We've also restructured some deals.

Payton is crazy like a fox if he's considering this. Let Spags run the defense, Carmichael the offense, and have Parcells simply oversee. Then, when Payton comes back, Parcells can simply go back to being retired.
Unlikely, but fun to think about.
