Scout add time to pro days because the times are faster, not slower. Look at the pro days of WRs Sanu and Randle as well as RBs Polk and Pierce. They all dropped their 40 times significantly from the combine to their pro day. Now the scouts go back and see if the tape matches the combine numbers, the pro day numbers, or somewhere in between.
Thanks for noticing my slip up, I changed my post to reflect it. Of course, I meant faster not slower.
Gil Brandt has revealed that Mohamed Sanu's 40-yard dash time of 4.41 seconds was inflated by his agent and lists his times as 4.54 and 4.55. He also notes that Bernard Pierce's 4.34 occurred while running downhill on a tilted track and mentioned that his shuttle time of 4.7 seconds was extremely concerning.
Two more examples of why to be wary of pro day results.
Yeah Floyd's overall stiffness and lack of 'wiggle' in his route running and after the catch concern me. Running the worst shuttle of any WR in the draft with almost a month and a half extra to prepare just validates that concern for me.
it explains why he doesnt' seperate like a 4.47 guy - but really it's not a big deal. We've seen him on tape and we know that his size and leaping ability and tenacity and all the things that made him so productive will make up for the fact that he isn't that quick. Not many 6'3"/225 lb. WRs are known for quickness. Floyd is the best WR in this draft on the field.

I don't get it though... he had to run that drill a ton of times and realize he wasn't timing well right? Why run it for scouts if you are going to run the slowest among all receivers? What good can come of that?

I believe SMU had him at 6'8 280, I guess we see how they roll. Those are some impressive measurables, but a TE conversion project screams later rounds, not top 100.
Yea that is quite a discrepancy in regards to his height/weight. If he was 280 he would have great size for a 3-4 DE. I would rather take him as a DE and let him put some weight on rather than convert to TE.
