Seriously, if anyone knows where to get one, let me know. The only non-awesome part about the Cannuck choke job is that now if the Hawks win, they don't get to troll them yet again in the playoffs.
this is what is wrong with the NHL, the clear double standard. this is an obvious cross-check to the face from a star player that goes unpenalized. but because schenn played dead and asham is a 3rd/4th liner he'll get the book thrown at him. shawn thornton's reaction is the best too, you can read his lips where he says: "what if I did that? if I did that I'd be out of here"
meh, it's the nfl-ization (though i think there's a case to be made that the nba started it) of hockey. do whatever you can to keep stars on the ice. 3rd/4th line guys are irrelevant. it's stupid and ruins the sport for actual fans, but from the nhl's point of view they wouldn't ever be able to sell thornton over ovechkin.
i should be clear that i don't like or condone it, just that i understand it.
Mike Smith sits out practice. I hope the guy doesn't have a concussion, the hit didn't look that bad, but you never know with head injuries it could be the simplest thing.
That said, I will rage if Shaw is suspended, and then Smith plays tomorrow. I get the whole precautionary measure thing, and I know it's not like Shaw = Toews, but Shaw has been playing really well for us and it would just be to perfect for this to factor into the decision.

Oh you mean like Hagelin and then Alfredsson looking like he is going to play tonight.
also, all that these suspensions are doing since Shanahan basically came out and said the severity of the injury plays a major role in the length of the suspension, is encouraging players to dive and exaggerate injuries. play dead on the ice and be held out of practice for precautionary measures and the other player will get suspended. pop right back up with no apparent injury and the other player doesn't get suspended. the end result shouldn't be the determinant of the suspension, the actual act should be. Shanahan is teaching players how to play the game wrong. players are more careless with their actions because they either know they won't be suspended or they can draw a suspension with their stupid play (like keeping their head down and turning into the boards). and the name on the back of the jersey should not be a factor either.
If the suspensions are related to the extent of injury, then if Alfredsson plays tonight, Hagelin should have his suspension reduced by 2 games or at the very least 1. The Rangers said they didn't appeal the suspension because they feel like those who do appeal these things are treated even more unfairly in future dealings.

And you'd be smart to do so. I can't give Chiarelli enough credit for actively building that depth. It's also a well known fact that Daniel Paille has been robbed of the past 5 Hart Trophies.
