Laurent Robinson offers something that the Jags haven't had in a while, size (6'2") AND speed (4.3). The price was high because of the market. I'll take him, draft another two speed guys, then let everyone fight it out for the starting role.

With Osgood gone, a WR slot can finally be used on a guy who is a real WR and not a ST ace.

Now with the news/rumors that the Jaguars are interested in Mark Anderson, the Jaguars could potentially be going after their other starting DE. Chick, Morgan and Lane hopefully come back healthy and we have end up having a good 5 man rotation.

Ultimately, I pray to God that the Jaguars find a trade down partner. The top of the draft is weak, but the late 1st-3rd is deep and the Jaguars could fill many holes if they had picks in that range.

Ideally we trade down to later 1, acquire an extra 2nd and 3rd and end up with a 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. Then we could package the later picks to maneuver around to get targeted guys.

1. Whitney Mercilus, DE
2a. Stephen Hill, WR
2b. Trumaine Johnson, CB
3a. Josh Norman, CB
3b. T.Y. Hilton, WR
4. Jake Bequette, DE
5. Brandon Brooks, OG
6. Josh Chapman, DT
7. Chris Owusu, WR

Here's what I think is going to happen.

I'll say we sign Mark Anderson and that will pretty much be it. He will be our pass rushing specialist, not a starting player. That's always been the big mistake with him. Look at his rookie year and this past year when he didn't have to start. After his great rookie year, the Bears made him a starter and his effectiveness greatly declined. Then after more mediocre year, the Patriots signed him to be a situational pass rusher and he thrived again. That's the key with Anderson.

Draft. We'd love to trade down but think about if that's realistic. Assuming the Niners get Manning and the Dolphins get Smith, the Browns and Chiefs might be the only teams interested in Tannehill. If the Chiefs want to leapfrog the Browns, they're trading to #3, not #7. But with almost every team having a QB at that point, I'd expect the Browns to take someone else at #4, and then they could trade up from #22 to #10 to leapfrog the Chiefs. It's still possible that an Alex Smith signing wouldn't stop the Dolphins from being interested in Tannehill. That would be the factor that keeps us in the trade down hunt.

So just assuming we don't get a great trade down opportunity and thus, get stuck at 7, I still think we take Mercilus. The best pass rusher by far last year. Gene probably has a lot of confidence in Mel Tucker and Joe Cullen to get his potential out. He can stay on the strongside like he did in college and it gives us 3 legitimate pass rushers on the outside. Hopefully, Alualu develops his pass rushing skills on the inside.

Second round, Gene takes Chris Givens from Wake Forest. Whereas fans are probably more interested in Jeffery, scouts might be higher on Givens, a guy who is very similar to Greg Jennings. He'll be the Z receiver, probably starting week one.

I haven't given much thought to the other rounds yet.

I would love to trade down. If guys like Claiborne or Blackmon are gone move down if possible. Maybe a team like KC will want to jump infront of Miami to take Tannehill @7. Other than that I dont see a team wanting to trade up to get him. If the Browns pass on him Miami wont trade up since no other team would take him.

So, who else needs a QB now? Browns, Dolphins, Bills?, KC?, Could there be surprise teams out there? Dallas maybe? Cardinals?

I really dont see anyone trading up to get a QB now. Hopefully the Jags can find a team that wants a certain player at 7. Trade back to like 12 and draft Floyd. Doubt it will happen but a man can hope.

there is less than .5% chance that the Chiefs trade up for Tannehill. the Chiefs had Cassel and Stanzi under contract and then they just signed Brady Quinn. Pioli isn't one to keep 4 QBs. plus, he is connected at the hip to the growth (or lack there of) of Matt Cassel. by drafting a QB in the 1st, he would be admitting he was wrong about Cassel and that WILL NOT happen. Pioli has done a good job this offseason of addressing the Chiefs needs. staying at #11 and drafting BPA (DeCastro is my personal fav) or trading back would be ideal.

who knows, maybe a team will want to trade up to get Richardson if he slips past Cleveland and Tampa.

What do you Jaguar fans think about Courtney Upshaw at 7? It seems people are placing below Ingram and Perry but I think Upshaw is the better player. Would you be upset with Upshaw or is there maybe another position the Jags may go with?

Upshaw as what, a DE? Is he good enough to be a hand on the ground 4-3 end who is ranked 7th OVERALL? Because the Jags are set at LB if he isn't an end.

I wanted to get this up in case Iím not able to post another mock before the draft because I have 3 exams this week.
Iím going to assume that Luck, Griffin, Kalil, Richardson, Claiborne, and Blackmon are all gone. Iím also going to assume that the Dolphins are the only team really interested in Tannehill because Mike Sherman knows him very well and is comfortable with him, so they donít feel that they would need to trade up. So that being said, hereís my final (probably) mockÖ

1.7 Fletcher Cox, DE, Mississippi State
Iíve really warmed up to this idea. Cox has great tape, even though he played the best conference (not to mention best division) in college football. He also has the measurable (4.79 40 despite being 298 lbs and put up 30 reps on the bench press). He will be the strongside end on early downs and slide inside when Knighton comes out on passing downs. So who takes Coxís spot on those downs?

2. 38 Andre Branch, DE, Clemson
Hereís the answer. Branch reminds me of Mark Anderson. He can get double digit sacks if heís put in the right role, but heís not an every down DE. He has identical size of Kampman (who will hypothetically get cut after this draft). Branch has a great shuttle time and is very athletic overall.

3.70 Marvin Jones, WR, Cal
Jones put 3 solid years together as a starter at Cal with mediocre QB play. Great YPC average. Willing to block and also effective at it. Makes difficult sideline catches routinely. Polished and mature enough to start outside as a rookie, especially with coaching from Sullivan.

4. 101 T.Y. Hilton, WR, Florida International
Fast playmaker who put up great numbers as a wideout and a returner. Clearcut message to Thomas that if he doesnít show up in camp workouts and preseason games, we have no problem getting rid of him.

5.142 Miles Burris, OLB, San Diego State
Burris can give us quality depth behind Daryl Smith, something we already have on the other side with Allen. With Sessionís injury history, Allen will probably see the starting lineup for some of the season, leaving our depth very thin.

6. 176 Drew Butler, P, Georgia
Might as well fix this area once and for all.

7.228 Noah Keller, MLB, Ohio
I donít know. Why not.

Great job. Doubt we take a punter though. I think the final 2 picks lean toward secondary if the draft falls that way. My 2 cents. Again, great job.

On a side note, I'm loving all of this trade down speculation. Broncos? Eagles!? I'll take whatever. Rounds 2-4 are packed with talent at need positions.

Wow, how the draft went completely the opposite way that I was thinking.

So, for the 2013 draft. I'm thinking a Seminoles first 2 rounds.
1. Xavier Rhodes, CB
2. Bjoren Werner, DE

Hey just wanted to ask you guys a question.

It seems that most people on this forum have already decided that Gabbert is a bust after his first season. I'm skeptical to say he is already crap. Yeah he struggled his first season, but being healthy and having some new targets might make him look like a capable starter.

What do the Jags fans think?

Gabbert has all of the tools necessary to be a very, very good quarterback. While he obviously needs to work on his pocket presence and some on his longball, he has made throws that just make your jaw drop. He relatively secure with the ball when throwing (ie few interceptions), but in the past that lead him to be a little conservative. You have to remember, or hear for the first time if you aren't from Jacksonville, that last year was a wash. Bad coaches, bad receivers, average pass protection, no preparation time (lockout), being the youngest QB ever to start 14 games, ownership changem etc.

So far he has shown marked improvement in pocket presence from last year. His deep balls still need some work and I feel like he might be inclined to try and take a few more chances once in a while. Also, he needs to have better ball security in the pocket (too many fumbles).

We need to get this board going again.

Dave Caldwell is our new GM. Press conference tomorrow at 4. With the leaks from the likes of Schefter, I would expect them to go ahead and confirm that Mularkey will be let go.

Its unfortunate, but he could be released if he doesn't recover from his concussions. He had 4 concussions during the season and was put on IR. The Jaguars already had to cut Clint Session because of too many concussions. If he was cut, it would likely mean his playing career would be over. Otherwise, there's probably too much invested in him to absorb the dead money. We'll see though. Hopefully he comes back healthy, but concussions are a big deal now.

ps. He really didn't do anything for the offense preconcussions, so anything could happen. It all depends on Caldwell and the new coach's decision.

I remember when this was the only thread in this subforum.

Where did the Unseen go off to?

Best case scenario for the Jags at the moment would be some really great pro day performances/interviews from some of the top QB candidates. That could open up a bidding war from among the likes of Cleveland, Arizona, Buffalo, and perhaps the Jets for a top of the draft pick. Either with K.C., who already have their quarterback, (leaving Luke Joeckel available), or with Jax, giving them an extra pick or two and still leaving them in good draft position between 5-10 overall. Outside of Joeckel, I don't know if anyone else warrants #2 overall. I like Damontre Moore a lot, but his slow 40 time won't fly with Gus Bradley who preaches speed on defense. Not at #2 in any case. Jarvis Jones would then become the logical pick, but he has a few issues, and he is older than Gabbert.

Interesting story here regarding Gabbert. Apparently he is known throughout the Jags facility as "Blame Gabbert" and doesn't take responsibility for anything.

Myeehh...that was that malcontent toad, Greg Olson yapping. Players like Gabbert, coaches too. It's Olson who is looking to deflect blame. Of course Henne wasn't any better than Gabbert under his watch, so maybe he will have something to say about Chad down the road.
