Default What does the new CBA mean for trades

The rookie salary cap means team no longer fear the value of rookie contracts and could entice teams like NE to trade up rather than down. One of the main reasons teams were reluctant to trade up is the effect a rookie's contract would have on the team's salary cap so when NE talked about trading back in past years for value, they were talking about the costs to the salary cap structure, with that gone could NE move in the other direction as well as other teams.

Of course, with picks 7-20 being graded pretty closely, why trade up when you will get just as good a prospect by staying put which is why every bottom team outside of Indy and Washington are willing to move down but I doubt there will be a lot of trading partners willing to move up in this rather bland draft.

I know this, the teams stuck with multiple pre rookie salary cap $$$'s are going to have a hard time competing with teams drafting lower this year and in the near future. Detroit for example has 3 studs which is great but they will command a large % of their total salary cap which could make it extremely difficult for Detroit to fill in around them.

Default

Adam Schefter touched on this a few days ago. He said that before the EXTREMELY inflated rookie contracts came to be, there were on average about 11 trades in the first round between 1996 and 2002. I think those were the years, so if someone else could confirm/deny what I said that'd be great.

I'm expecting to see a ton of teams moving up and down the draft board
