For trades listed in bold, the team trading up sacrificed more value on the chart. It's interesting that only two trades involved sacrificing more value than teams were getting back. The trade value chart does seem to be a fairly applicable tool even with the rookie wage scale, though; not many trades drastically strayed except the Cleveland/Minnesota deal for #3 overall.

It is a reflection on the weakness of this draft year. There simply wasn't that much top end talent available so teams scrambled to move up if they could and it was a sellers market. Of course, Cleveland got taken to the cleaners but that is another story.

Have to agree with the above here. The talent was very top heavy and teams were willing to part with more than usual to get it.

Only two of the eight teams which traded up took a loss on the trade value chart (New England by eight points in the Chandler Jones deal and Minnesota by eighteen points in the Harrison Smith deal.) It was a buyer's market rather than a seller's market (contrary to what many expected.)

I found it particularly interesting that Dallas gave up less than the chart would dictate to get the 6th player in a draft that was considered to have 6 elite guys in it. Definitely a buyer's market this year and I think this does mean that the value chart as currently put together isn't exactly what teams are doing. It'll be interesting to see if the trend holds through the rest of the draft. Thanks for putting this together MJ!

Based on the value chart, alone, the Browns actually got the biggest discount.

Looks can be deceiving. Minny wanted Kalil all along and there is no way they trade past Cleveland and risk losing him. They suckered Cleveland for 3 picks when Cleveland could have stayed put and got Richardson for nothing.
