Yeah, look at the division too:
Patriots - spread offense
Buffalo - spread offense
Miami under Philbin - spread offense
Transitioning to a more nickel based defense is almost a must for the Jets. They're playing spread offenses 8 games a season at minimum.
And I think the emergence of the 2 TE sets that NE is making popular is why guys like Barron and Smith got overdrafted this year. You need those safeties now.
Or you can do what the Eagles are doing, and running an undersized wide 9 style defense that uses very small front 7 guys fast enough to cover and hope that they can swarm to stop the run.
