Of course not, he was BPA on our draft board, and we balanced value/bpa with need perfectly. That's how we always run our drafts. We have a veteran scouts, with a veteran HC, and a great GM and Director of College Scouting. You don't win 2 super bowls in 5 seasons by doing stupid stuff as a rule.

We stuck to the draft board and that was our pick.

(Saturday Remarks) A running back – we talked about him earlier. We think he is a terrific player. It was reported that Tampa jumped in front of us. That is not true. This guy was the second-rated running back on our board and the highest player on our board. So that part is not true. We think he is a really good player to add to our running back group; return specialist as well.

Q: Did you have more choices than you thought you’d have at 32?

A: We did. There were still several players on the board that we liked, but David was rated our highest player there and he was the best value because he was the highest player there at the time and a little bit of a need pick for us as well. So we got a combination of both. You like to get a combination of both things and we were able to do that tonight.

Q: Was there concern that Tampa Bay was going to take your guy when they traded up?

A: There was some thought that if they take that guy we have two or three other guys that we like. So it wasn’t a panic situation for us because we had some more guys that we liked at that spot.

Q: Is it fair to say he was the second running back on your board?

A: I think it’s probably pretty fair to say that.

I was expecting it to go up, since top 10 picks are now more valuable. In the past teams would be happy to baulk at their high picks for any decent level of compensation and very few teams would want to jump up.

I actually liked Wilson more for the home run threat, but this draft really tells you what kind of direction the Bucs want to go, tough high character guys.
I think Sullivan had some insight into what the Giants might be looking for in a RB which is why we jumped right in front of them to grab Martin. And we pretty much gave up nothing to get back into the first round to get him.
Martin, Blount is a beastly backfield, can tell Sullivan is trying to copy the Giants in terms of the running game.

I am sure if you guys run block well, you may try having a 3 headed running attack like we have for a while. I guess you guys really wanted Martin as a player to fit that mold. We were had Wilson, for our specific board, as the # 2 RB. I do like the home run ability and hope that if we run block better, that Bradshaw and Wilson can be productive. The 3rd guy I am hoping is Scott who can get his way into the 3rd spot.

Going forward I think more teams are going to invest higher draft choices in the position because the financial risk isn't nearly as high. Plus, a RB sells jerseys and becomes the face of a franchise, most of the time from day 1. I hope just purely out of nostalgia that a superstar college halfback is taken #1 overall again in the future.
