We all assume that Owusu is the "crown jewel" of our UDFA WR's, but i found this interesting.

Quote:
Palmer topped the list of the 49ers' 18 undrafted free agents with a $10,000 signing bonus. Tyms was second at $8,000. Owusu, meanwhile, received $3,000.
http://www.csnbayarea.com/football-s...60&feedID=5936

That's UDFA WR Nathan Palmer of NIU. Highlight video is below. He actually looks pretty good, and our staff obviously made him a priority UDFA. I'd be happy if he could take the 6th WR spot away from Williams. I like Owusu too. I couldn't find any highlights of Tyms. Seems like we're way deeper at WR this year, which is necessary after last year's debacle there.

Yeh this is a slow time of year and basketball isn't going to get interesting until next week at the earliest.

If anyone has any information about training camp please post it.

UGH. Basketball. The best team got eliminated when its star player went down. And yeah, I hate LeBron and the Heat. I dont care who wins as long as its not him and Miami.

Moss from 2009 wasnt great but better than any WR we've had since 2003 with T.O. I think that if Moss is focused and determined, he can accomplish that if he so chooses.

5th round pick Fleming torn his ACL first day of rookie camp, gone for the year.

Dang that's a tough blow for Fleming.

Perhaps Kourtnei Brown gets a legitimate shot to make the roster now.

That sucks for Fleming. I was interested to see how he'd compete. Door to a roster spot wide open for Cam Johnson now.

At first I thought Cam was a long shot for the a roster spot but after doing my very early 53 I think he might make it. Cam will make the team if he proves himself on STs. Last year we went very heavy with safties, with 6 on the final roster. Dont see us carrying that many this year, which leaves some spots open for other defenders to latch onto the 53. And I also just think we wont head into another season with only 3 OLBs. I'd like to see Cam lose about 10 pounds though. When Groh was at UVA and Cam was in on the edge in his 3-4, he played at around 255 lbs and seemed more agile overall. When London came and switched to a even front, he packed on a little weight and it seemed take away some of his quickness and burst off the line.

I thought there was an outside shot we could keep Fleming and Johnson, and cut Haralson, if the rooks produced (Haralson's scheduled to make around $3M this year). But i guess that's not an option anymore. Now it'll probably be a competition between Johnson and UDFA Kortnei Brown for the last OLB spot.

Why would we cut Haralson? 3 mil aint bad for a back-up that was effective as a two down player in the scheme last year. He could start on either side if a starter got hurt and be solid, though not spectacular. My problem with Haralson was that I didnt think he was a effective enough pass-rusher to be a starter.....and now he's not. Our depth is one of our strengths as a defense. Harlason as a back-up is a part of that. You'd be hard pressed to find a better back-up, outside in a 3-4 than him. Even if Fleming didnt get hurt(which doesnt really mean anything because he was moving inside anyway), Haralson wasn't going anywhere unless either Cam or Brown was truly lights out, which I highly doubt.

I didn't know Fleming was being moved inside, do you have a link for that?

I just don't think much of Haralson. I know its a longshot, i just prefer more pass rush ability out of our OLB's.

according to Maiocco, Alex isnt locking front leg.

Alex with better mechanics? I thought of your complaints from years past, Borat.

Good memory Brent.

Year 8 is probably a good time to get started on fixing those mechanics lol.

Hopefully we will see a bump in his accuracy now. Could pay huge dividends.

Maybe he can have a 2004 fix-it like Brees did.

Honestly at this point I'd be surprised if it helped a lot overall. Alex may have reached his ceiling. We'll see.

Perhaps. Enter Colin Kaepernick. That was the plan.

But just imagine... just imagine, if Smith is just now scratching the surface of his potential. A full offseason of making himself better, instead of learning a new playbook.

We're not going to get a Drew Brees with Alex having an offseason under the same regime to improve, but I do think he has room for improvement and to be more consistent. Even if he just become more consistent on his 3rd down completion and conversion percentages, this '12 Niners team will actually be much better.

Baalke mentioned it after the draft. And alot ppl saw him moving inside once he was drafted. 6'1 3-4 OLB with short arms dont translate well at the next level normally, see Haralson. Fleming was a ok pass-rusher in college. He doesn't really have a single attribute that would make you think he could become a good pass-rusher in the pros. He's a ok athlete, as OLB go and he made some plays on the edge for the Irish. But what caught my eye was he was very sound and looked suprisingly well in space. That to me says he seems more suited for a ILB role. What Fleming could bring though is the ability to be a guy you can use either inside or outside. He has enough pass-rush in him to play some snaps at OLB but I would say he'll probably translate better to being inside in the pros. But its his versatility more so than he's pass-rush ability that probably intrigued Baalke the most. I just believe its hard to go from a ok pass-rusher in college, to a good one in the pros. That usually doesn't happen. But I can defintely see him making a Bowman-like conversion inside and becoming a very solid ILB.

Not saying it's not true, but what on earth would make anyone (especially a niner fan) think this? The first time he had a good offensive staff, in a shortened offseason, and we saw a huge improvement. He had Brett Swain starting near the end of the season too. Based on almost everything, there should be another jump in performance.

Because sometimes you just are what you are. We've seen this time and time again with quarterback after quarterback. If it was as easy as correcting a knee problem, then a lot of quarterbacks that got flushed out of the NFL would have had longer careers. I'm just tempering my expectations. I expect at minimum what we got last season production-wise. Maybe a tad better.

Like I mentioned earlier it would be great if he had a 2004 Brees like season where a light just came on and he became a field general, but I'd be shocked.

If the above reports are true and Alex isn't locking his front leg on throws, his accuracy surely will improve with modifying that one element, as that was the main reason why he was overthrowing his WRs.

well, doing so without pads on is one thing. we'll see if that holds up when Jared Allen, Clay Matthews, and that entire Giants d-line is breathing down his neck.
