I know it was the Padres and 50 year old Jamie Moyer beat them, but it was great to see Adam Wainwright dominate like that.

Nice and tidy 2 out of 3 from the Pirates on the road. I'll take that.

Reds won the first 2 of a 4 game set against the Braves.
Then the Rockies come into town.
I really like our chances to pick up some momentum here.
The pitching is coming around and the ******* bats still suck outside of about 3 guys right now.

Quintin Berry is leading off, because Jim Leyland doesn't have an ounce of creativity in him. Also, Quintin Berry should not be on a major league roster.

To be fair, the Tigers don't have any options with Jackson hurt. That's the problem with a team built on the long ball.

Yeah, no kidding. A 5-run outing is wasted on Zito's crappy day.

Has a solid OBP. That's pretty much the point of a lead off guy, especially since our top OBP guy is presently hurt until further notice.

You don't need speed in the leadoff spot. One of the traditions I'd like to see go the way of the dodo bird.

Joe Maddon knows what's up. By the way, BRUTAL strike 1 call for Hagadone against Cabby that cost the Tigs a run.

Speed isn't the number one concern for a leadoff hitter but I don't think its meaningless.

No one said it's meaningless but you have tons of managers that put guys leadoff only because they are fast or could steal bases. If you can't get on base that stuff does you no good. I'd rather have a slow guy with a high OBP than a fast guy with a low OBP.

I agree that OBP is a good deal more important but I think speed has become a little undervalued. If there is a guy who is a lot faster with an OBP 15 points less I'd take the fast guy. Could easily be the difference between scoring on a double from first or having to hold up at third. If a guy like with Jim Thome/Miguel Cabrera speed is going to lead off for me they better have an OBP well over .400.

Peralta has a career .331 OBP. That hardly compensates for being slow.

Which is still a million times better than having Berry there because he's fast.
