Just no. I'd rather force Jenkins to play out his contract and give him a contract of commiserate value or let him walk afterwards. The comp pick is going to be better than a 4th and having 3 great corners in Rob's defense is a must.

Lets not cut off our nose to spite our face please :) JJ and JG already have said he's not going anywhere he has an important part to play and this is purely a "business decision" on Jenkins part.

Pick, but 1st or early 2nd please.

Trading players for 4/5/6/7 rounders is ridiculous.

1 or 2 is not possible no team is give you that for a corner with only one good season

Alot good/great players been traded for 4 or 5 rounders
Anquan boldin
Santonio Holmes
Asante Samuel
Demeco ryans

Only an owner like jj would give premium picks for a guy who other than 1 great year has been mediocre ala roy williams and with al David passing and Snyder picks in Stl that's just not a plausible scenario

Yanks is actually right here. Unless someone meets a rediculous asking price (1st or 2nd rounder) Jenkins is staying. Depending on the season and how much he gets paid he could be worth a 3rd/4th/5th compensation pick AND we actually get to use him this season.

No sense whatsoever in trading him and hamstringing Rob's defense AGAIN just for the sake of doing it. We NEED to have players capable of playing man coverage. Trading one away because he's on a contract year doesn't make sense. Jenkin's has pretty much already indicated he's only skipping the optional stuff he's not going to hold-out and takes fines.

It's a business move and guaranteed he'll be lining up for us week 1 unless someone coughs up a 1st or 2nd.

So Hanna is our highest draft pick playing in OTAs. lol.

Claiborne - wrist in cast
Crawford - sore calf
Wilbur - finger injury
Johnson - school
Coale - broken foot

Lovely.

Absolutely no one will give up anything more than a fifth rounder for Mike Jenkins. Just look at what the Falcons gave up for Asante Samuel. Doubt we can get any player that will make any difference whatsoever so the only logical decision would be to force him to play out his contract and let him leave in FA.

the question wasnt about what you get for but if jenkins is traded which would you prefer a mid round pick or player, possibly a starting center, so which would you prefer?

I'm not worried about those injuries keeping them out of TC, outside of Coale's broken foot they all seem to be minor.

I don't want to think about last season, I still get sick to my stomach thinking about the Jets game.

Gimme a 1st rounder or a 2nd and 3rd. Dude is young and has already gone to the Pro Bowl once.

I would honestly love for all of this to result in Jenkins signing an extension with us during camp. Having 3 all-pro potential CBs in Rob's defense gives me goosebumps. It also lets us ignore the fact we trot out middle-of-the-road type players at safety :)

I'd rather see Jenkins play out the last year on his contract here, but if someone makes a great deal I'd love to see them take it. With all the crazy all deals the Eagles and Patriots get away with certainly the Cowboys should get some of that love too. If this was the Eagles they would have already traded Jenkins for two first rounders by now. lol

The Jenkins situation is a great barometer for how good the Cowboys FA is.

Patriots and Eagles get a first for a Pro Bowl caliber player at a low cap number.

ESPN saying 3rd or 4th at best.

If we keep him, and he comes in and plays in training camp or early during the year, I think we can get a first for him.

But it is all a function of how motivated Jenkins comes in and if he outperforms Carr and the Rookie.

If he can win the job in TC, then I can see someone having to pony it up.

I want to keep Jenkins around for a good insurance in case Carr or Claiborne get hurt. Plus it would be perfect to ease Claiborne in slowly instead of putting everything on his shoulders. He definitely should play a lot, but if he plays 50-60% of the snaps early on behind Jenkins he could be eased into the starting role, and he won't be so vulnerable out there while he's learning how to play in the NFL.

Either way it goes, things should be fine. If Jenkins gets traded then they at least got some value for a player that wasn't going to be resigned anyway, and Claiborne gets the whole baptism by fire thing. If Jenkins stays you got two corners who should be good, and if Claiborne is as good as a lot of us think you'll have a stud in playing and learning from the sidelines at the same time. If Jenkins becomes a locker room problem then he could just get traded or cut while sending a message to the rest of the team that JG won't play that ****.

Mike Jenkins seems unlikely to be traded. Whichever team signs him is going to have to pay him a significant amount of money to extend his contract beyond this year (Jenkins was supposedly looking for a deal similar to Brandon Carr's before the draft); it's doubtful that a team would be willing to cough up a first or second-round pick and a huge contract to land an inconsistent cover corner (122.6 rating against in 2010, 88.5 rating against in 2011) who doesn't support the run well and is coming off of a shoulder surgery.

The Cowboys could potentially get a third or fourth-round pick for Jenkins, but would it be worth it at that point? Jerry Jones wants to win now and Jenkins is reasonably priced through this year (just over $1 million) and one of the team's top defensive backs. Dallas could allow Jenkins to walk in free agency at the end of the season and have a shot at picking up a fourth-round pick compensatory pick. If teams are offering fourth or fifth-rounders for Jenkins, why not keep him this year?

great point about the comp pick factor. thanks for chiming in.

He won't go anywhere. We need the depth. Our #3, #4, #5 CBs have had plenty of game time in times past. Our top guys are always getting hurt.

Plus are we really banking on Claiborne (regardless of the fact he was pick #6) to step in and be an instant high quality CB? He's going to have growing pains. No matter how you look at it having Carr, Jenkins, Claiborne, and Scandrick lining up opposite the opponent's top 4 is a matchup I will take 100% of the time.

Compared to last year... just wow.

Carr vs Jenkins = Carr Wins.
Jenkins vs Newman = Jenkins Wins.
Claiborne vs Scandrick = Claiborne Wins.
Scandrick vs Ball/Walker = Scandrick Wins.

Going from one of the league's worst to one of the league's stronger crops of CBs? Priceless.
